[RIP]Robin Williams Dead at 63 [W:194:238]

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

I must wonder if Robin would think it's too soon for a joke. I look forward to it, I think he'd want people to laugh.

I am posting on the assumption that his death was a drug induced suicide.
Perhaps he stopped taking his meds.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

The fact that a person is clean does not remove their severe depression--many times it only enhances the depression.
so tell me what is the harm in what I posted? chill
Especially if they are on strong prescriptions for depression which themselves have serious side-effects causing more depressive behavior.
I choose to move forward to an outlook of how we can all benefit as a society from his loss--something I'm sure he would want .

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

You forgot the part of an addict that overcame his vices for several years. Celebrate what he accomplished as an entertainer for now. Let the investigation disclose what it will. To do otherwise is unfair to the man.

Sorry, Mom. I'll post what I am comfortable with posting, and I'd suggest you do the same, mmmK? Now let's stop derailing the thread. If you don't want to talk about his demons, then don't. But don't give anyone else a hard time if they choose to do so. Williams was an addict. He is now dead. The two may or may not be related, and that's why some of us are having this discussion.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

for years we have lost top artistic talent to drugs or drinking

Hendrix
Joplin
Keith Moon
Bonham
Bolin
Belushi
Entwistle
now Williams

what I have always wondered is

without drugs would they have been as popular or creative as they were?

You can add Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain to that list.

But...but....but...were you not the one that listed Williams among all the others that did die from drugs just a few posts above? Already making the assumption that indeed his death was caused by drugs? Hey that's alright. ..Carry on,,,,,

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

I understand how you feel vesper.
It takes one to know one and I am one and don't mind admitting it right now.
I can attest to what it's like to lick your vices for 30 years and still be bedeviled by your demons--thank GOD I had teaching and my Students.
It might as well been yesterday when Mom told me not to come home again back in 1984 due to my drinking.
Thank GOD for Moms .

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

I didn't have much use for Robin williams personally. His politics made me want to puke. But that doesn't take away from the fact that the man had talent that was loved by millions and its sad he died this soon and this way

Whether you liked his politics or not, you have to admire his heart. We all know he had his gifts. But his heart. Immeasurable. Ask Vance about how giving he was to the USO. He was salt of the earth.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

Thanks, Ma.

Williams was one hell of an entertainer. He had the ability make almost anyone laugh. His talent stretched across the spectrum from comedy to serious roles that were believable. Someone that gave so much to all of us deserves the decency and respect to at least wait for facts before making unfounded accusations or assumptions in my opinion. Don't like my opinion? Oh well......

I didn't know about the USO until I read Vance's post. Very impressed.

Garp, Vietnam, Birdcage; in that order.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

given I am not a coroner or conducting a coroner's inquest who cares? I am posting on the assumption that his death was a drug induced suicide.

TD, I have had the misfortune of dealing for 17 years as a primary caretaker for my sister who suffered from severe bipolar disorder, a symptom of her more serious Huntington's Chorea. I promise you, that many suicides with folks that suffer from this bipolar are not directly drug related. Yes, their medications are drugs per se, and the imbalance of those meds will lead to "stinking thinking" that may well result in suicide attempts (I went through several with my sister), but it's not drug addiction.

I'm not ruling this out of course, that's what the coroner will do. But if I was a betting man, I'm betting on his illness.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

Are you telling me that my comments to this thread are less irrelevant that yours? Are you trying to send me a message that because I had the audacity to point out something that ran against the grain of what you posted is somehow something that I should just "let go" and forego because YOU find it irrelevant or annoying? Tough.

Perhaps he stopped taking his meds.

Very real possibility. A serious problem for those who suffer from Bipolar disorder.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

A small tidbit that speaks to who he was...

Williams publicly struggled with addiction during his career and most recently went to rehab in June to “fine tune” his sobriety, his rep said at the time.

The rehab stint would have gone unnoticed, except that the comedian opted to pose with a fan for a photo at a Dairy Queen near the facility, and the picture eventually went viral.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

If you haven't seen it, his movie "What Dreams May Come" from 1998 has many connections to him dying today. Maybe that was too strong, but it is a good watch about him dying and saving his wife from hell.

re: [RIP]Robin Williams Dead at 63 [W:194]

I'm stunned.

I'm sad.

I'm angry.

I'm sad.

I'm hurt.

I'm angry.

This is just wrong.

"What Dreams May Come" is now all the more poignant, and yet, we can really hope now, that it will come true for Robin, and his friend Christopher Reeve will lift him out and up.

People die of drugs every day, he's no different than anybody else.

Well, he is different from a lot of other people. He was funny. He was a humanitarian. He was an addict. He was also loved by millions.

Not everybody can say that.
