[RIP]Robin Williams Dead at 63 [W:194:238]

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

Don't forget another great that we recently lost - Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Also to drugs. :(

I just picked some pretty obvious ones though you'd have to be a Deep Purple fan to remember tommy Bolin. there are so many more including my favorite dead due to drugs-Jerry Garcia. I remember saying when I heard Captain Trips had died (his widow is a Cincinnati girl-I don't know her but plenty of my friends 10-15 years older than I do knew her well) DAMN too bad he couldn't get clean sooner and one of my good friends-who knew Garcia and his wife said-well he might not have written all that great music stone cold sober

maybe so

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

You can add Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain to that list.

I am glad to see you don't buy into the nonsense that CL had Kurt whacked!!!

I could have added 50 more at least.

So sad. Between the Birdcage and Mrs. Doubtfire, Mr. Williams created some of the most hysterical moments in film. It just goes to show you that even though someone may have fame, popularity, talent, and money, in the end they too are human beings with needs no material goods can meet.

I never liked Birdcage but loved Doubtfire and Patch Adams. A few weeks back just for giggles I watched the pilot episode of Mork and Mindy, it was still funny, though the graphics were unsurprisingly bad. A great talent, and I pray that he has found some peace.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

Seems like you and I've been down this road before in other threads.
When all sides of political debate can come together and grieve.

I've never known a country presented with so many tragedies which could then become opportunites to remedy problems we all recognize.

As I got older as a Teacher, I felt good about using the material from others to benefit my Students.
I would ask myself what would "so-and-so" say about this situation.

Well, what would Robin Williams say in his best frames of mind about our Nation's problems?
I'm quite sure this perplexing problem was part of his depression .

I didn't have much use for Robin williams personally. His politics made me want to puke. But that doesn't take away from the fact that the man had talent that was loved by millions and its sad he died this soon and this way

I'd say one of the two best. He posted a response to my thread about my favorite professor at Yale's death that was pretty damn good

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

for years we have lost top artistic talent to drugs or drinking

Hendrix
Joplin
Keith Moon
Bonham
Bolin
Belushi
Entwistle
now Williams

what I have always wondered is

without drugs would they have been as popular or creative as they were?

Nothing like jumping the gun Turtle.

Toxicology tests will be run tomorrow.
There have been reports of Williams suffering from depression and checked himself into a clinic to "fine tune" his sobriety skills and explicitly stated he had not fallen off the wagon just a matter of weeks ago.
How about giving the man at least the decency to wait to make such accusations you and the OP eluded to until the toxicology reports to verify such a thing are completed? You nor anyone else knows Williams death was the result of drugs. It could be the result of depression he could not get under control or the damn drugs they treat depression with often has adverse effects on certain people.

Sad news. This brings to mind the "tortured genius" aspect. It seems that some of the worlds most creative minds have struggled with depression and scientists have more or less confirmed it.

The Tortured Genius Just Can

For most people, this area of the brain only lights up at restful times when one is not focusing on work or even daily tasks. For writers and creatives, however, it seems to be constantly activated. Fink’s hypothesis is that the most creative people are continually making associations between the external world and their internal experiences and memories. They cannot focus on one thing quite like the average person. Essentially, their stream of ideas is always running—the tap does not shut off—and, as a result, creative people show schizophrenic, borderline manic-depressive tendencies. Really, that’s no hyperbole. Fink found that this inability to suppress the precuneus is seen most dominantly in two types of people: creatives and psychosis patients.

What’s perhaps most interesting is that this flood of thoughts and introspection is apparently vital to creative success. In Touched with Fire, a touchstone book on the relationship between “madness and creativity,” Kay Redfield Jamison, a psychiatry professor at Johns Hopkins, reported that successful individuals were eight times more likely as “regular people” to suffer from a serious depressive illness.

Maybe you can just calm down a little? It's not outside the realm of possibility that his death was a result, either directly or indirectly, of drugs or alcohol. He was, in fact, an addict. Addicts fall off the wagon, all the time. This is a thread for the discussion of his death, and as far as I know, we don't have to check in with you to get approval before we post. Sheesh.

Sorry you feel that way Superfly. I don't need you to tell me to settle down darling. That facts are the toxicology tests on Williams will not be taken until tomorrow. To make claim or suppose anything before the FACTS are in is reckless. Have a nice day.

re: [RIP]Robin Williams Dead at 63 [W:194]

In the spirit I think Robin would have appreciated, I have to ask...how are they gonna close the casket with all that chest hair?

Also, good morning vietnam was great.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

Depression is an insidious disease, as we see with 22 soldiers committing suicide every day from foreign wars--no blame assigned.
Whether they are on or off the wagon is really not the prime reason why they commit suicide.
We have an opportunity to reflect as a Nation on a most serious disease called Depression, over a person who we all loved .

I'm not your darling, and I don't have to get your approval to comment in any thread - mine or otherwise. If the tox screen comes back clear, then that's wonderful, but it still doesn't set aside the fact that Robin Williams was an addict.

given I am not a coroner or conducting a coroner's inquest who cares? I am posting on the assumption that his death was a drug induced suicide. If someone say whacked him to make it look like suicide then we can redo our comments

you seem awfully invested in claiming it wasn't drug induced suicide or an OD

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

Guys, it's an RIP thread. Chill the **** out.

Because he was seeking help with his depression and reported to still not fallen off the wagon just a couple of weeks ago, I think it reckless to assume anything before it has been proven.

You forgot the part of an addict that overcame his vices for several years. Celebrate what he accomplished as an entertainer for now. Let the investigation disclose what it will. To do otherwise is unfair to the man.
