[RIP]Robin Williams Dead at 63 [W:194:238]

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

At the time, we was mostly known as Vinnie Barbarino on Welcome Back Kotter.

Since then, many good dramatic roles, such as Pulp Fiction, White Man's Burden, Michael, Phenomenon, Mad City, Primary Colors, The General's Daughter, and a great many others.

Robin Williams was Mork from Ork. Tom Hanks was the guy on TV that dressed as a woman.

We're watching Mork and Mindy clips on YouTube. Williams's comedic genius was clearly evident.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

One of my favorite jokes that I made up myself for years involved him.

That is if you had gone back to the early 1980's, and told people that 3 of the biggest dramatic actors in 20 years would be John Travolta, Robin Williams, and Tom Hanks.

In the early 1980's, nobody had an idea of what dramatic capabilities these 3 men had.

George Clooney. He played a bit part in Facts of Life. Admittedly not the best actor, but definitely one of this era's biggest stars.

Hanks though is in a league of his own.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

Funny "feeling old" story - once I was working in a company where like everybody else was in their 20s, and I was 30-something. They were talking about Travolta, and I said something about Vinnie Babarino. The idea that he was on a TV show was foreign to them.

Feel my pain, I am a nurse in my mid 50's and many nurses I work with were still in diapers when I started my career.:lamo I like messing with their heads.:lamo

I like Clooney. He's a good actor.

Hey, who woulda thunk Opie would be a great director!!!

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

Well, you guys, you take care of yourselves. I won't forget you.

No matter how many times i saw it, i teared up everytime he said those words in Good morning Vietnam.

He was simply brilliant. One of the most gifted comedians and actors to ever grace our screens. My personal favourites were Mrs Doubtfire, What dreams may come and Good Morning vietnam.

RIP.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

one of those souls you really felt would be around forever. maybe more people will appreciate his incredible talent now that it has been taken away.

Robin Williams Dead: Actor Dies of Possible Suicide | Variety

He has struggled with drugs for years. What a loss. :(

RIP Mork.

There are some men too gentle to live among wolves.

Poor soul.

From Sir Thomas Gray's "Elegy Written In a Country Churchyard":

The boast of heraldry, the pomp of power,
And all that beauty, all that wealth e'er gave,
Awaits alike the inevitable hour.
The paths of glory lead but to the grave.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

After my early tears, I tried to take a nap.
The song that kept rolling through my head was "Just sit and Watch as Tears go by" by the Stones .

His death will leave a mark on Hollywood and a hole in the hearts of the many that loved him.
He entertained the world while he struggled with himself, so so sad.

May he rest in eternal peace.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

This is terrible.....

Mork and Mindy.....

Not to mention his standup comedy....

This really sucks...

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

Loved Robin.
I felt he was at his best in Stand-up, free-styling, instead of set movie/TV Roles that hemmed him in.
RIP
Excerpt at the Met.

That's beautiful, and appropriate.

This has really bothered me. Almost as much as when John Candy died. I cried, hard, when Candy died. He felt like this boorish old uncle who always showed up late to the family BBQ, drunk by the time he got there, who always embarrassed everybody, but everybody loved him anyway.

One of the greatest comedians who ever set foot on this planet apparently lost his battle with his internal demons, and it makes me really sad.

Maybe in the future I will be able to laugh again as his incredible talent but right now I am too sad to watch him and know we are never going to be blessed again with his brilliance.

Rest in Peace Robin Williams, you were awesome.

re: [RIP]Robin Williams Dead at 63 [W:194]

Possibly the funniest five minutes in stand up ...ever...

re: [RIP]Robin Williams Dead at 63 [W:194]

Well, that's it for him. Goodnight, funnyman.

He's not Tom Hanks, but I agree he is not bad. Brother where Art Tho was hilarious. Burn after Reading was pretty good acting on his part too. I don't recall the name of the movies where he had serious roles right now, but he did pretty good in that terrorist movie.

So funny starring 2 great people who are now both no longer with us.

Uncle Buck. Epic.

Not bad? He was nothing short of brilliant in Good Will Hunting and Good Morning Vietnam.

Tell me this isn't genius?

So sad. Between the Birdcage and Mrs. Doubtfire, Mr. Williams created some of the most hysterical moments in film. It just goes to show you that even though someone may have fame, popularity, talent, and money, in the end they too are human beings with needs no material goods can meet.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

for years we have lost top artistic talent to drugs or drinking

Hendrix
Joplin
Keith Moon
Bonham
Bolin
Belushi
Entwistle
now Williams

what I have always wondered is

without drugs would they have been as popular or creative as they were?

You can add Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain to that list.
