We aren't the Borg, we don't "assimilate" people into our culture. We welcome new ideas and new ways of life. It's what has made us great. It's why we can enjoy a wide range of foods, style, entertainment, and music. America isn't about some collectivist idealogue where everybody has to be the same. It's about individualism and diversity. Our whole country exists BECAUSE of immigration. It started this country, it built this country, and it made this country great.
I don't buy into the whole "they're all scary Marxists" idea. But, even if they are overwhelmingly socialist, who cares? Are you suggesting that these people can't come here because they don't vote the way they want you to?
It's easy to dehumanize and demonize them, but they are people too. They can contribute to our country. They can learn from us, and we can learn from them. You speak about "American ideals" yet shutting down our borders is contrary to everything America was built on.

Let's focus on the issue and not hyperbolic references to science fiction bad guys.
First, we can look at the European Countries who've embraced the policy of Multi-culturalism to see whether or assimilation is critical or if it can be ignored in the hopes that we can retain some semblance of a National identity while immigrants poor in illegally with no intention of acknowledging our culture, our laws or the consequence of their actions.

I'm sure the French Politicians wish they could have a do over on the multi cultural policies that have led to riots in Paris and a isolated population that refuses to assimilate. Hey, they were just poor disadvantaged Islamic youth who were demanding that parts of France be recognized as Islamic territory and that French law be replaced by Islamic law, or sharia.

' Whether you accept it or not, assimilation into a prevailing culture is critical and benefits not only American citizens but the immigrants. The problem is these " immigrants " are ILLEGAL immigrants, who've by-passed the process that naturalized citizens go through.
Naturalized citizens not only take an Oath upon receiving their citizenship but they must also demonstrate knowledge of U.S. history, politics, and government.
Millions of illegals from third world Countries are not only going to refuse to assimilate, they're going to burden already overloaded Social services, School District's and Hospitals. They are coming in with the INTENTION of being dependent wards of the State.
Millions of illegal immigrants, poorly educated or not educated at all, not loyal to the US, who are culturally predisposed to dependence AND who could care less how their actions affect the people of the Country they've just illegally entered into are exactly the type of people our immigration laws are set up to stop.
