James Brady Death ruled a Homicide.

So...baring his being shot years ago, before I was even born, this man was or would have been immortal?

Ruling this a homicide is pure sensationalism.

nothing wrong with ruling his death a homicide.... if the medical facts determine that he died from consequences of the wound he recieved decades ago.

But what does it achieve?

So if you shoot a person, they survive and die twenty years later it can be called a homicide.

Reagan aide Jim Brady's death ruled homicide

Sounds like a bunch of bull**** to me. I hope it will, at some point, be fought and overturned. No matter what I think of someone who does this, it does not excuse injustice on part of the legal system, which (imo) is exactly what this is.

If someone went around injecting dangerous diseases into people or deliberately passing deadly STDs I think that person should be charged with murder regardless if it took 1 day or decades for that person to die.

After two decades, seems a bit unreasonable.

at this point, the legal system is not involved.... it's medical detemination, nothign more.

I highly doubt Hinkley will be charged...and if they do decide ot charge him, the prosecution will have one helluva hill ot climb ( double jeopardy comes into play, as does his officially being designated "insane")

I agree with you.... but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves here.

a medical examiner determining the cause of death is "homicide" doesn't mean that anyone will be charged with murder.

personally, i'm not surprised the casue of death is homicide... i'd actaully be surprised if it wasn't.
get shot in the dome has some nasty lasting effects... and it seem brady eventually died becasue of his.

Totally agree. Brady just didn't fall over and die last week. From 1981 he has never had normal operation of his limbs and mostly confined to his wheelchair. Brady's career was over and his life cruelly ruined.

Meanwhile, Brady has enjoyed freedom most murderers don't. From the above article:
Hinckley has been allowed to leave the hospital to visit his mother's home in Williamsburg, Virginia, and can now spend more than half of his time outside the hospital on such visits.

Hinckley almost killed a living president and destroyed this man's life. Of course he was found conveniently insane so never did hard time.

Sucks to commit crimes , doesn't it.

He was clearly insane. The finding was appropriate.

The coroner found that Brady died from injuries received when Hinckley shot him. He never "healed" correctly.
It took thirty three years for those injuries to finally kill him.
It doesn't matter if it took thirty three minutes or thirty three years for Brady to die from his gunshot wounds ... there is no statute of limitations on murder... ever.
Hinckley just graduated from "attempted assassin" to murderer.
I wonder if Jodie Foster is impressed.

I doubt he will even be charged, let alone convicted.

The coroner determined that if Brady had not been shot thirty three years ago he would still be alive.
Brady was 74. had he not been shot he may have lived to be ...who knows 80? 90? possibly 100?.

But what does it achieve?
All that is achieved is that the record will now show that Brady's cause of death was homicide and not natural causes.
What if Brady were your dad? Would that record matter to you?

she was not. She was a freshman at Yale when this happened. two of her good friends (who did their best to protect her from the unwanted spotlight after this incident) at Yale were well known (now) actors Bronson Pinchot and David Hyde Pierce. I knew Bronson pretty well since we were in the same hall freshman year and in the same residential college the next three. as a result, I met JF a bunch of times and sat with her at various meals. She was understandably upset with this incident and the fact that she, a freshman who made a real effort not to be any different than other 18 year old students, had secret service agents following her around didn't make her life any easier. I have never been all that interested in celebrities but I sure developed a lot of respect for her putting up with what she did and how she reacted. same with her two friends (who were not celebrities at the time)

I never had any use for Sarah Brady and what she did following her husband's shooting but what happened to James Brady was a real tragedy. its sad the SS guys didn't cut Hinkley in half when he started shooting

That seems like quite a leap. I hope this doesn't stand the test of law or time. Too bizarre.

I totally agree with you. This is lunacy.

Especially because the man who was accused of the shooting was already found not guilty by reason of insanity. He has been prosecuted and found not guilty because he was insane, making this a homicide will not change the lunacy he was suffering from at that time.

Hinckley is insane and so not fit to stand trial ...so no he won't be tried or convicted.

true, and in reality the finding was made at the time-now that Brady has been declared a murder victim, in really shouldn't change the disposition or treatment of JH

I think people underestimate how routine this is. It also makes sense. If I shoot you and you later die as a cause of my actions it's homicide. Whether it was 10 hours later or 10 years later.
