Tennessee Sen. Alexander on GOP primary win: I can get results in Washington | Fox News

Tennessee Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander told Fox News on Friday that his reputation of "getting things done" on Capitol Hill led to his primary victory over a group of GOP challengers.
"I made the argument that we didn't want a senator who could just make a conservative speech," the Republican nominee said on Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "If we want to change ObamaCare or secure the border or fix the debt, we're going to actually have to pass something."

The lawmaker's most prominent challenger on Thursday was Tea Party-backed state Rep. Joe Carr, who had hoped to capitalize on voter anger over issues such as the immigration crisis.

"The victory, if anything, says we selected a nominee who's got a reputation for working across party lines and getting results," Alexander said.

One of the long time career politicians that needs to go. Lamar is a classic example of the problem with Congress. We need term limits in place to clear out the career politicians and get us to representatives are doing what is right and not what will get them re-elected.

Obviously there's enough Republicans in Tennessee who disagree with you. I don't like term limits because we have them - elections. Obviously, Alexander has not overstayed his welcome in the eyes of the Tennessee GOP.

Alexander is right that ideological purity isn't the same as effective government. Dogmatic speeches from both sides is why our government is broken right now.

Agreed... Voting = term limits. However we definately need to re-vamp our voting process.

Mabey make election day a Federal Holiday or at a minimum same allowace we give to reserve military: one cannot be fired for taking the day off to vote.

Employers are already required to let you take time off to vote, but sometimes they fire people anyway and just claim poor job performance.

I think a better option would be to keep the polls open 24/7 for a week.
