Raven ray Rice suspended 2 games

All in all...disgusting on both their parts IMO but his punishment is deserved.

Her action was with no real threat of damage. Using physical force is disgusting but it's not the same.

Baltimore Ravens cut Ray Rice after new video surfaces - ESPN

"The Baltimore Ravens terminated the contract of RB Ray Rice this afternoon."

The NFL also took action, saying on Twitter that commissioner "Roger Goodell has announced that based on new video evidence that became available today he has indefinitely suspended Ray Rice."

He's been cut, and indefinitely suspended from the league. This means he doesn't get paid anymore.

Exit question: How many wives/girlfriends/etc skip reporting abuse to keep the money rolling in?

DIdnt say it was. She has no more right to strike him than he does to strike her however.

That new video is absolutely disgusting.

It does show her elbowing him first tho, seems like to the face or chin. That does not excuse his behavior but she also still married him.

I disagree, 6 game suspension ( like league policy) would have been more in line.

But the NFL caved. god help anyone who gets excoriated by the media, the lemmings will surely scream ( do lemmings scream)

Just wanted to say hi..

That doesn't draw a meaningful equivalence.

I think what’s important here is that Ray has taken responsibility for this,” Goodell said to reporters in Canton, Ohio, at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, at the beginning of August. “He’s been accountable for his actions. He recognizes he made a horrible mistake, that it is unacceptable, by his standards and by our standards.”
apparently not (NYT source)

That's not fair to her. Maybe she is a gold digger, not saying she is or isn't, but domestic violence is very serious. Maybe he threatened her if she didn't marry him or to not report the abuse, we have no idea about their relationship and to blow her off like that is perhaps ignoring a terrible situation she may be in.

If he's wrong, she's wrong.

But the law handles disparity of force differently.

Hi!

That was a brutal display of force and then he just dumped her...completely vulnerable in a public place.

She's a moron to have married him and IMO he deserves a formal assault charge...and to be 'fired.

If he's wrong, she's wrong.

He's so much more wrong, it's a different league.

But the law handles disparity of force differently.

I know the law. You need to recognize the difference between throwing a fit and hurting someone unnecessarily.

Didn't say anything like that, and it has nothing to do with being in it for the money, but the NFL has made it very advantageous for women to keep quiet about domestic abuse.

This is very different than if you report your accountant husband for spousal abuse. Sure, his employer can fire him,but its not like there isn't another accounting firm out there. There is only one NFL, and only one professional football league that pays multiple-millions a year to play a game.

I'm not condoning his actions in anyway. I'm saying that the NFL has made it very clear that you will both be unemployed,ex-millionaires if you report domestic violence.

but she didn't file, and charges are impossible now.
Hi back. What is even more silly is to think the NFL ( and Ravens) are looking at the MERITS of this -preferring to get out of the media headlights.

cuz the media is now more then the message, it is now the judge and jury.

I understand the law...and I agree with it.

Does not remotely change that she was also wrong. Very wrong....maybe just as wrong except with not as much physical ability to carry it out.

I have no respect for either of them. She struck him. And she married him. My guess is that was a common form of exchange between them, part of their relationship, but he carried it too far and too publicly.

Hers is misdemeanor assault, his is felony battery (perhaps more/additional).

I will no longer address this false equivalence, it's disgusting. Good day.

LOL No worries, it's here for everyone else to read.

Hence, my signature below, in green.

are you defending his actions?

domestic violence is a very serious issue.....

and the original 2 game suspension was a complete joke.....why i started this thread in the first place

and six games is too light also......sorry if you think this is just a witch hunt

this is an epidemic in our country....and imo the nfl should have higher standards, not lower

we are supposed to have evolved from the cro-magnum species....couldnt tell it at times looking at the nfl....

and i am a huge fan of the game.....

I agree, all wife beatings ought to be done behind closed doors.

I said he should be punished. He committed felony assault as far as I could see.

Apparently Annata says it's too late for that however.

Well, I'm a fan of women not getting hit, so I do give a damn.

Well the woman struck first and had it coming, imho. The days of women being allowed to hit men is more or less ending. The law needs to adjust to that fact.

If you start a fight with someone you better expect them to try to end it. If women want to be treated equal they better get used to a fist in the face when they decide to throw one.

That doesn't work.

Sure it does. It called self defense. If you attack me I'm entirely in my right to make sure you can no longer attack me. If she thinks she can just throw around her weight and not get slammed into the pavement, well, she is wrong.

why would I defend the indefensible ?

The rest of your editorializing - ,sure fine - but the league rules were 2 games. Retroactive punishment is unconstitutional in the penal system but not here.

so go with 6 games as CURRENT POLICY..but why do you think even 6 games wasn't substantial enough? leaving you food for thought.

bear in mind she married him afterwards.
bear in mind he was doing anti-bullying outreach
bear in mind this really doesn't help the NFL. or Rice. or her.
now you got an unemployed young couple who apologized together , and worked it out through counseling to get married.

where is anything sane here?

No she didn't and no she didn't.
