So they feel obligated to marry the dude? If so, sounds like mental illness for both parties.

The psychology of battered women is kind of twisted. I've known a couple women like this. One managed to get away, but not before several incidents where she forgave and told the police she wouldn't press charges. She blamed herself to them. She wouldn't leave because she feared for her life. A lot of them do and it turned out true for her since he did threaten to wreck the car they were driving in because she finally moved out and was divorcing him.
The other stayed. I gather they are ok, but she has never again confessed to a beating incident. I wonder about her.
I know many more women who have suffered from emotional battering (abuse). Most of them have ended up staying with their spouses/boy friends. Though it's far more likely that the unmarried women, end up separating from their BFs. Children are the greatest factor with the married women, in that difference.

In Canada, the victim of domestic violence has no right to withdraw or refuse to press charges against the person who assaulted her/him. I've never understood why this is not the case in the US.
Booooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Steelers will probably get a good bit of that at the Super Bowl this year since it's in Phoenix.
In this case though, another factor enters in. Money. She may have the mindset that if she can ride it out, she will live in luxury. It's a shame no matter the reason.
Neither do I. The woman in the first instance, was convinced it was her fault at first. Then the threats started and so she was fearful of filing charges because it would get her husband in trouble with his CO.
Taking it out of the woman's hands takes the pressure off her and also the blame when charges proceed or when the husband pleas out. In Canada, the guy knows he's got no way to talk himself out of charges unless the prosecutor believes his story.
Great system. Would that something like that could be managed here.
Though I have the feeling there would be some objection to that.
Some states are like this. The problem with the law is that in some cases it would prevent people from getting medical care where medical personnel are mandatory reporters (and thats the case in 37 states). I dont disagree with it...but it happens where the crime gets reported...the first time. Not the second. And the second is almost always worse than the first. In Canada, the victim of domestic violence has no right to withdraw or refuse to press charges against the person who assaulted her/him. Yikes.I guess, if a woman is prepared to ignore "minor" injuries that don't require medical attention, then not much can be done - mandatory reporting does, however, give the woman an out in that she's not responsible for reporting/charging, she's only seeking care for her injuries. I know it's not realistic, but I'd hope every person physically abused would have the self respect to seek medical care whatever the consequences.
Yikes.
ummmmm...I dont even want to touch that. But I suspect others will.
I am a chauvinist. I dont mind saying that there is NO 'reason' for a man to hit a woman. Ever. I'd sooner get my ass kicked by a girl than raise my hand to her.
Spoken like a man who has never been in the predicament of having his ass kicked by a woman...
I have been slapped a time or two, can't say I didn't deserve ALL of them... :3oops:
But my more pragmatic view is I will never hit a lady but damn sure will beat a bitch...
So far, knock wood, I have only met ladies- true a few were HIGHLY pissed- but after the symbolic slap they had the good sense to call it good. As an aside, in real life I have never met a man who just stood there and took an ass whipping from anyone, man or woman- most are the would rather go down swinging type. But to each their own I reckon... eace
Why does it matter what the altercation was about?
What justifies one person to hit another hard enough to knock them out? That's assault. Pure and simple. Whatever she violence she may have done to him, it cannot in any way equal knocking her out (certainly spitting doesn't). If it's judged that she assaulted him, so be it, but knocking a person out, is well beyond the pale of claiming self-defense against a woman who was using only her fists (and saliva).
Actually I sort of did once. 10th grade, several of them defending one of the girls honor regarding an offhanded comment I had made that was taken way out of context. I protected the tenders and backed into a big ass bush to prevent all but one from swinging at me. I was on the football team and it was a game day so jersey day. I lived proudly with the teasing and embarrassment.Spoken like a man who has never been in the predicament of having his ass kicked by a woman...

I'm a Ravens fan and I think Rice should be kicked out of the league.
Good thing Ray Rice isn't a white guy who told is girl friend not to hang around with black guys. That might have gotten him a lifetime ban from the sport. I guess punching a girl in the face and knocking her out isn't really all that bad. Good to see professional sports has their priorities straight.
