POLL: one-third say Impeach Obama

I live in one of the red states that refused to set up an exchange. Unfortunately for your claims, every state and local politician running against obamacare is winning.
This is from human-events-logo-2.jpg. Mitch McConnell the Senate Minority Leader from bright red Kentucky is in a dead-heat with Alison Grimes, who supports Obamacare, to McConnell, who is long been a vocal opponent. Ordinarily, a powerful incumbent would drive right over a challenger.

The top Republican senator is locked in a dead heat with Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes, according to the July 19 Human Events/Gravis poll of 1,054 registered Kentucky voters.

Sen. A. Mitchell McConnell and Grimes are both polling at 45 percent, said Doug Kaplan, the president of Gravis Marketing, the Florida-based firm that conducted the poll. The poll carries a 3 percent margin of error. Grimes, an attorney, is Kentucky’s Secretary of State.

“With only 10 percent of the voters undecided, it is hard to see either candidate breaking out,” he said. “It really looks like it will be close through to the end with the decision turning on turnout.”

You wouldn't have that anyway. Truman choose not to run again in 1952 although he could have. Eisenhower had ill health having suffered 4 heart attacks. JFK was shot and LBJ stepped down because he would probably have lost the nomination of his party. Nixon resigned, Carter was defeated. Reagan had Alzheimer and would not have run for a third term. Bush the first was defeated, Clinton since the passage of the 22nd amendment was the only president that probably would have won a third term if he could have run. Bush the second was too unliked and would have lost if he decided to run.

Would a Clinton third term been better than Bush's first, who knows?

Clinton may have managed a third term..but not a fourth. Most of Clinton's decisions and actions were designed around protecting his precious high approval ratings. That's my point. Some other president who cared more about staying in office then taking care of business would have always been around the corner.

Also, should be noted that in polls like this people vote their emotion. They often choose options that they would never choose in reality.

Nice try. However McConnell is and always has been a RINO. What McConnell says in front of the press does not always match what he says and does behind the scenes. Nobody takes his claims of being against obamacare all that seriously. That's why conservatives have plotted at different times to beat him in primaries in much the same way they did Eric Cantor.

I hope the Conservatives stay home so McConnell will be defeated. His problems have nothing to do with Obamacare and everything to do with his failure to integrate conservatism into his policies. He and Boehner are disasters.

True. Most conservative voters understand the history regarding impeachment. It's a black mark on a president's legacy, however it has failed to remove any president from office.

Really? McConnell get's a 96% conservative rating from the American Conservative Union. Of course, to extremists like you, that's a RINO.

American Conservative Union? Bwahahahahahahaha. John McCain gets a 100% rating from the same group and he has had at least five recall efforts directed at him. Get back to me when you come up with a source relating to rank and file conservatives. Like it or not...McConnell is not popular with rank and file conservatives.

What is now "rank and file conservatives" is a base demanding politicians who don’t just talk the crazy talk, but walk the crazy walk. Those are people who want to slash social insurance; cut taxes on the rich; reject science and mainstream economics; and use government shutdowns and threats of debt default as a tactic. They are far from what used to be called conservatives in the mold of William F. Buckley.

In essence, your rank and file conservatives are crazy people. Fortunately, the are a minority of general election voters.

No offense, however you do not have the foggiest clue what you are talking about. All the rank and file conservatives want is for the republicans to honor the republican platform they keep voting on and approving every four years when they hold a convention. The platform is agreeable to rank and file conservatives. It also matches the letters that republicans like McConnell send out....seeking votes and donations. I received one such letter from the McConnell camp just a few months ago. It looks conservative, however McConnell's actions and votes to not match. Now you can sit at your computer and suggest that rank and file conservatives wanting republicans to honor their own party platform is just crazy talk, however that merely makes you come off as hyper-partisan. You come off looking like you believe that anything other then liberal or liberal-lite is crazy talk.

Poll: One-third say impeach Obama - Jonathan Topaz - POLITICO.com

The ever increasing radicalization of the right becomes more and more obvious every day and now this poll clearly provides more evidence of the divide in America between the right and everyone else.

65% of Americans reject the political tactic of impeachment but a full one-third of the citizenry are more that willing to go down that road. Nearly one in five simply want to use it to advance their own political objections and need no actual crimes for the process.

I say let 'em impeach Obama! Let 'em tell all the world how terrible and unAmerican Obama is!!!!

And as they do so, ever more Americans will see just how far off the rails the Right has gone, and the more will vote for Democrats in the future....

I hate to disappoint you, however there is no move about to impeach Obama. The libruls will just have to find another trick to try to raise money and garner votes

I think both parties are bad these days. It's merely that the republicans are less bad then the democrats. These days the democrats are positively evil.

Oh, please.

I think the Democrats are (slightly) less bad than the Republicans, but to start branding either party as "evil" is ludicrous. Grow up.

Rank and file conservatives wanting Republicans to honor their own party platform may not sound crazy, unless what is in that platform is crazy. Let's look at the 2012 Republican platform.

Admittedly, most of it is hollow platitudes but there are strange assertions, like there is a war on religion. It also uses code words like "traditional marriage," which means against gay marriage. It also uses "right to life" which means anti-abortion -- supporting laws that criminalize health care professions performing abortions.

This one got me: "As a matter of principle, we oppose the creation of any new race-based governments within the United States." I didn't know there were any.

Then, we have these two that are contradictory:

"The Internet has unleashed innovation, enabled growth, and inspired freedom more rapidly and extensively than any other technological advance in human history. Its independence is its power.

[…]

We support the prohibition of gambling over the Internet […] The Internet must be made safe for children."
In other words, we believe in internet freedom, unless it's for something we don't like.

Hmm: "The public must never again be left holding the bag for Wall Street giants, which is why we decry the current Administration’s record of over-regulation and selective intervention."

The bailouts that left us “holding the bag” happened in 2008, when Bush was in office. Clearly, we’re at the point in the platform where they figured, it’s far in the back of the document, no one will read this thing, let’s just start lying.

"[Abstinence education] is effective, science-based, and empowers teens to achieve optimal health outcomes and avoid risks of sexual activity." Oh really, effective? I think these Republicans just make up facts as they go along.

How about this one, reparations from Vietnam:

"While our relations with Vietnam have improved, and U.S. investment is welcomed, we need unceasing efforts to obtain an accounting for, and repatriation of the remains of, Americans who gave their lives in the cause of Vietnamese freedom." OK Vietnam, while we were blowing up your villages some of our soldier's bodies got left behind. Can you help find them?

There are many more in this 62 page document and any more reading it likely would cause brain damage.

Indeed, the GOP is not only what Bobby Jidal called the stupid party, but they're the crazy party too.

I know...but one can only hope, y'know? Obama Derangement Syndrome has been a great fund-raising tool.

There is another side of the coin, everyone knows once a president is elected for the second time, he is nothing more than a lame duck. The only thing that a president in his second term has as a threat is his approval factor. Today the Republicans have nothing to fear from Obama, he can't run again and he has a real rough time of energizing the populace behind him because of his approval ratings. He is of little threat.

I would bet that those who want impeachment are likely the same folks that think Obama was born elsewhere.

As much as I dislike Obama I hate to post this but I will.
There is always the idiot 30%. I bet that same 30% wanted to impeach Obama for being elected. It has to approach 40% for me to even consider it a valid point to discuss.

I DO think the numbers will rise in the next 6 months but until then this is a "grab some attention" article from a desperate CNN.

TRANSLATION: APACHERAT can't intelligent debate what MTAtech wrote, so he'll just call MTAtech a Marxist instead. Oh, and learn the different forms in our language, "to" is not the same as "too." Oh, oh, you can never watch too much MSNBC-- unless it is "Lockup."

Let him call you names. I proudly admit to being a huge Groucho Marx fan. DUCK SOUP is one of my favorites.

What is next for him? Attacking Frank Capra?

Just the opposite. I have heard many say that they want the GOP to win the Senate this fall and go absolutely bat guano crazy with a radical right wing legislative program so Obama can veto it all and be a hero to the middle class setting up a great DEM year in 2016.

The beautiful thing about that is that you can tell right wingers you want them to do that and why you want them to do that and they will still do it anyways because they are so ideologically driven.

"Right Wingers" are what? People that want the Constitution followed? Since when is it radical to want the President to obey the laws and rules of the Constitution, instead of having the attitude of just using his pen and doing things that are clear seperation of powers issues, because he knows it will take years and a court decision to stop him?

If Obama was a republican I'd expect a similar percentage of liberal persons would want to impeach him.

They'd also be wrong, but still...

You are disputing that the far right is radical?? :doh:shock::roll:

I don't see anything radical about impeaching a President that violates the Constitution. It is not radical to follow the remedies to protect the Constitution, it is radical to violate it and want to fundamentally change it on your own.

Perhaps old-time conservatives believed in those things but not modern conservatives. During the Bush Administration, modern conservatives believed that deficits don't matter; they didn't believe in limited foreign intervention nor limiting the government's encroachment upon individual liberties and freedom. Back then, they were fine with Bush setting up "Free Speech Zones" a mile away -- roping off of protestors where nobody would hear them. They didn't care that Bush was tapping Americans' phones. It's all to keep us safe, they said.

Conservatives of yesteryear respected state sovereignty and believed that torturing prisoners was only what the Communists did. During the Bush years, conservatives had no compunction about using their federal muscle to overrule state courts. It's repugnant that we even debated the merits of torture.

Now that there is a Democrat (and a black one at that) in the White House, all of a sudden deficits matter again; preserving personal rights is on their lips as well as liberty.

We have a name for these people and it isn't "conservative," it's "hypocrite."

"Right Wingers" are what? People that want the Constitution followed?

Yes - of course - right on the money!!!!! :doh Right wingers are true patriots who want the Constitution followed and everybody else are just godless commies who want to wipe their backside with the document. Thank you for honest commentary.

I think impeachment talk is now acceptable. It wasn't even thought of before Nixon and after Nixon resigned it went away until Clinton when the Republicans revived it. I think every president from now on will be threaten with talk of impeachment, this is just the climate of the times in Washington D.C.

I think we would have a much better system of government if impeachment was as common as elections. And not just for the President. Holder, in my view, is even worse that Obama, and should be gone. If impeachment was more common, jerks like Obama and Holder would think twice before they decided to screw the Constitution.
