Inmate Dies 2 Hours After Execution in Arizona

Humane is the absence on unnecessary suffering.

Appeals which span entire decades is not necessary.

Given the failure mode here, a liberal appeal process is necessary for the DP.

Why do you assume that killing someone is necessarily a punishment? Living a long, healthy life behind bars is a punishment while death is a release.

If death is such a release for them and better than life without parole, why do almost all of them appeal the sentence right up to the last moment?

Yes, some don't - Gary Gilmore and Timothy McVeigh come to mind, but the vast majority try very hard to get a death sentence commuted to life in prison.

There is a risk of executing an innocent person. The risk may be small, but it is still unacceptable. However, there are certain cases where the defendant has been proven guilty by DNA evidence. If that is the case, the death penalty is acceptable.
