Gunmen guard mh17 crash site

I just have two questions...

1 - who fired the rocket that brought the plane down?

2 - what was the plane doing in hostile airspace?

I am guessing that I will never know the answer to both.

The answer to number one will depend on who you're asking.

That is what I am afraid of.

But no matter who shot it down...what the heck was a modern passenger plane doing flying near/over a civil war zone where other aircraft had been shot down?

I think the restricted air was to an elevation of 32,000 feet (320) and the pilots flight plan request was 35,000 and he was instructed by Ukrainian ATC's to fly at 33,000. But there's going to be an unbelievable amount of information coming out over the next days and weeks. Truths, part truths, lies, hyperbole, disinformation. It's likely going to be sometime now, but in the end there won't be any sort of consensus.

Yes, I read that as well...thanks.

But why would they direct a plane to even fly anywhere near a civil war zone where other aircraft (at a lower altitude, granted) had previously been shot down? Especially since flying around the zone would not have been a large delay in flight time.

That seems overly risky to me.

Would it not advance Kiev's interests if the separatists downed a civilian aircraft they mistook for a military aircraft?

Yes...that was my first thought.

But I was hoping that was too cynical.

President Obama on Friday ruled out a military response to the shoot down of a Malaysian airliner over eastern Ukraine while charging that Russian President Vladimir Putin was partially responsible for the tragedy that killed 298.
"He (Putin) has the most control over that situation, and so far, at least, he has not exercised it," Obama said at the White House on Friday.

That sums up.

the only authority I acknowledge in providing the answers is the Dutch government and officially sanctioned reports from them.

The Dutch need to push the EU here as does the UK. We cant allow terrorists to kill our citizens and let it go unpunished.

Exactly!

Why is this thread not in conspiracy theories forum...that is all that is being spewed...

Why are you still defending them? They don't want us near the black box for obvious reasons.

Isn't that what I just said? They don't trust Ukraine OR EU with any evidence, much as they don't trust the Russian separatists or Moscow with it. But then I suppose you intend to say that Ukraine and the EU would be above tampering with evidence, and its a given that the other two will.

How in the hell do these separatists get your label of terrorists in their bid for self determination that we welcome elsewhere. I suppose you think that IF the Russian separatists shot this plane down, they did it knowing it to be civilian at the time?

Shooting down a commercial airline and refusing to take responsibility will normally do it for me.

Do what for you? The US shot down a civilian airliner and didn't admit or apologise, or attempt any restitution for 8 years, and you expect these people to jump right out and admit that they mistakenly shot down a civilian aircraft, IF indeed they did.
