California Split Into Six New States?

Don't go there with the Obama dumb quotes, everyone will tire of reading from the list of George Bush's.

You could combine all of Bush's into one and it's still not as goofy as Obama's 57 states. That was an all-timer.

California needs a reboot," Draper, who has spent $4.9 million of his own money on the effort, said in a press release.

Think of all the actual constructive things he could have done for California with that money. Whatever, it's his money to blow. I don't really care about splitting up California, if that's what the majority that live in the state want to do and they make it work, more power to them.

I'm laughing real hard now, you big kidder you.

There's nothing sacred or magical about states and boundaries, its all arbitrary anyway.

From the article:

Silicon Valley would become the nation's richest state, while Central California would become its poorest, according to the nonpartisan Legislative Analyst's Office.

This is why they want it. It certainly would not be good for the majority of California's citizens to separate the most profitable areas from the least.

The billionaires of Silicon Valley are just pushing this so they don't have to relocate away from California's ruinous tax and debt situations.

I would fully support an effort to divide California into Northern and Southern States (2 states). California is too big to have only 2 Senators. The 6 state idea is just wacky though.

Exactly, and the idea of breaking California into two states has been around for as long as I can remember. If the dividing line put LA and SF into one state, and the area north of the Tehapis and east of the Coast range into another, we'd have one more red state, so the Senate would gain two Republicans.

Oh, and the wacky idea of spending a hundred billion or so on a high speed rail system would no doubt go away finally.

Long time Californians have been for splitting the state in two for decades and decades. The resources are up north, the political power down south, guess who gets raped?

Sounds like any number of third world countries looking at Americas big stick.

That would never happen. LA and SF in one state? put 90% of the population into one state? No....more along the lines of dividing the state around San Luis Obispo/Monterey.

As far as high speed rail, I would concur that the current plan is ludicrous. However, the useof high speed rail is sadly way behind the rest of the industrialized world and will bring California up to speed with much of the world....but it has to be done right without the political posturing which is currently taking place.

Not really, country boundaries are just arbitrary. I read that somewhere.

Where's the conflict between the two. You consider national borders to be an act of nature or arbitrarily drawn by men.

yes a misspoken word at the end of a long day of campaigning 6 years ago.........you must feel so smart.........

Divide the state with LA in one and SF in the other, and you'd still have the same situation with the big city Democrats calling the shots and putting high speed rail ahead of water projects to benefit agriculture. Nothing much would change except for the addition of two senators from California in Washington.

The whole thing is just that certain people think that they're more likely to get Republican Senators out of the deal. So in the end, it's not much more than sour grapes from bad losers.

They can do this only after the senate is dismantled. The last thing i want to see is more useless senators

I fully expect this attempt to be just as successful as the previous efforts.

Can we agree than the people in the less profitable area(s) would lose out on the arrangement, whether we ended up with 2 states or 6?

And what constitutes "rape" here? By the same logic the most profitable states should secede from the nation, to get out from under the onerous federal tax burden.

That would include California.

What and idea: Let's split California from the US and bring back the Bear Flag Republic.

God, that campaigning must be so tough. What else could make one forget how many states (an even 50) are in this country? Naaa, just another example of a Kenyan that has no friggin' clue. The same guy that won't release his college transcripts, too many embarrassing skeletons, I would guess. One thing we do know...he obviously failed grade school U.S. history and geography, or never took it, since he was a foreign exchange student in college.
