GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information...[W:220, 325]

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

Timing....The e-mails show a clear pattern 4 days after the IG announced inspection of violation of IRS guidelines in scrutinizing conservative groups of covering up certain details as to what the IRS was doing...This just if anything shows not only the guilt of Lerner, but a reason to move forward to get to the bottom of this crap. The American people deserve the truth. PERIOD!

That proves my point. This whole thing is a politically-motivated fishing expedition. The Republicans are distorting everything they get in a desperate attempt to catch whatever they can. Lerner didn't want to give them anything more they could distort

Lerner was hiding her crimes.

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

Wow, I guess I missed a few pages! When did how Lerner got her job 30 years ago become relevant to the IRS scandal?
Personally, I think she has first hand knowledge of who ordered these groups to be targeted. My guess is that it came right out of the Obama campaign, with implications that it was okay with Obama, of course he was insulated.

I think she feels some kind of allegiance to others involved, who would end up in serious trouble if the truth came out. She will not spill the beans, unless she is facing jail time. That's why we need a Grand Jury to look at the evidence and an impartial special prosecutor to run it. Holder is an absolute disgrace, he is not doing his job and should be fired. Of course, he won't. Since doing nothing about this scandal is exactly what Obama wants.

Obama could pick up the phone tomorrow and tell that smug little bastard at the IRS to hand over the emails, but he won't, the American people can't even find out what the hell happened here.

To me the most likely scenario reasonably deduced from behavior of those involved:

Lerner has been a career federal employee since the Carter Administration and has served in several different capacities during those decades. In 2006 she was apparently hired (selected, not appointed) to Director of the exempt division of the IRS. She was almost certainly hired by the Exec Drtr of the IRS or one of his deputies. She was probably qualified for the position and did her job reasonably well.

Enter Obama in 2009 and with the passage of the Stimulus Package and Obamacare, the Tea Party organized into action groups all over the country. Needing to fund raise to promote their agenda of smaller government, lower taxes, and Constitutional integrity, many grass roots groups sought to incorporate as not-for-profit organizations and found their applications snarled and delayed by mountains of red tape, endless questions, and requests for unusual documentation. Meanwhile, most applications by left leaning organizations sailed through without any problems.

The initial story broke via an IRS whistle blower that the IRS was inappropriately handling certain applications. President Obama went public to express that he knew nothing about it--you know, like he knows nothing about anything if it looks bad in the press--if it looks good it was all his doing--but he was appropriately outraged and assured us there would be a full investigation and they would get to the bottom of it. And then nothing was done, nothing changed. The bad acts of the IRS continued through the 2012 election as they had through the 2010 election. And instead of conducting an investigation, Obama was making speech after speech accusing the GOP of dirty tricks and manufacturing phony scandals. And his loyal worshipers dutifully reported that on talk radio and in TV interviews and on message boards.

He can't do anything to fix it of course if it was his idea (which I doubt--I don't think he is that smart) or once he found out his was it his key staffers who ordered Lois Lerner et al to stall the Tea Party/Patriot applications. And he had to give Lois Lerner cover and make sure she was taken care of because she is the one person who knows where all the 'bodies' are buried.

And so far nobody has come up with a more credible version of the story than that one.

The IRS scandal: Is a shocking new email the smoking cannon? | TribLIVE:peace

Whether or not it is the smoking cannon of the IRS scandal remains to be seen. But new revelations, ones that keep coming out in dribs and drabs, suggest that Lois Lerner might have conspired to obstruct justice in her agency's efforts to improperly target conservative opponents of the Obama administration.
Ms. Lerner is the former head of the IRS's Exempt Organizations division. Conservative groups appear to have been singled out to have their First Amendment rights quashed. And a new email released this week shows that, just as the targeting scandal was going public, she warned staffers “to be cautious about what we say in emails” because those communications could end up before Congress.
Worse, the email, dated April 9, 2013, suggests that the IRS thought it could employ instant messaging as an end around to subvert open-records laws.
Couple this new development with the IRS's fantastical claims of hard-drive crashes that just happened to befall principals of this scandal, crashes that conveniently parallel the scandal's timeline, and the stench now is overbearing. Thus, a scandal that long ago cried out for the appointment of a special prosecutor now is screaming at the top of its lungs. And failing to investigate an IRS (now under a federal judge's order to come clean) that appears to be the definition of a corrupt criminal enterprise can only lead reasonable people to conclude that the enterprise is not limited to the IRS.

A "corrupt criminal enterprise" in charge of collecting tax payer's dollars with the full power of government confiscation behind it.
And some are saying "What could possibly go wrong?"
Unbelievable.

Our first clue should have been way back when Obamacare was first being sold to the public and it included a provision for up to 6,000 new IRS agents just to implement Obamacare. To enlist the IRS to enforce a program in the Health and Human Services Dept. should have been a huge red flag of how he intended to use the IRS.

Back in 2009, Obama was quoted about joking about using IRS audits on this person or that person. Prof. Reynolds of Instapundit wrote a piece about it in the Wall Street Journal--or it might have been a letter to the editor? I can't remember for sure. It is almost impossible to get accurate information about anything like that from the MSM these days, but there has been sufficient rumbles in the underground media about this person or that person getting audited after a confrontation with the President to at least raise eyebrows. And with the current IRS scandal, the concept of a government who would use the IRS to bully those on its 'enemies list' doesn't seem like so much of a joke.

Well said and well researched.

Given your apparent expertise, I'll ask you the question: "How to fix the IRS" and perhaps this abuse of government power in general?

The only way I see to fix the government and the IRS with it is to eject the permanent political class that occupies it at every level. And the only way to do that, short of revolution, is to throw our full support behind the Tea Party, 9/12ers, tax reform groups who are trying to replace them with reformers and true public servants that we once had.

The second, even more obvious clue, should have been when we discovered that the IRS felt the need to be armed to the teeth...

She's certainly hiding something.

I still maintain that this goes a lot higher than Lerner and she's afraid she'll get clipped if she tells what she knows.

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

Who pleads the 5th when it was explicitly implied that conservative groups were targeted?

Some of those emails were recovered and I have read them and Lerner made targeting conservatives look like a joke or hobby.....

Maybe but I think this is the status quo within the ranks.... Look at the DOJ.

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

Sadly, the voters have been fed misinformation for the last 6 to 7 years.

The news media has done a woeful job of speak truth to power and holding all branches of the government accountable through their accurate and factual news reporting.

Sadly the voters rely on being fed, and sit around complaining about the media instead of educating themselves.

I prefer revolution, or at lest independence. The country is too big to be centralized, and youre never going to convince most of the country to eject their incumbents.

I can see where voters are relying on being fed, witness the load of BS that they are accepting as the truth of the matter.
However, isn't it the role and responsibility of the free press in our system to provide accurate and factual information? Providing this factual information to the electorate?

Should a voter go and educate themselves, as you call it, and I'd count participating in forums such as this as a form of being informed, and there's no telling which bogus sources they are likely to believe and take as the truth. Might end up being worse off.

No, I'm not in support of a 'Government Ministry of Truth'. But the free press, given the privileges they are granted, have obligation for that privilege, which is to speak truth to power, report on, and hold, government agencies and departments as well as politicians, accountable, and reporting to the electorate such.

That's the thing. Each of the incumbants is allowed to throw their own district or state just enough bones and given opportunity to spread just enough propaganda to keep them believing that the problem is everybody else's representatives and not their own.

The press is a business like anything else. They sell information in order to make money. And they can be corrupt just like any other entity with power. So in the end, its the responsibility of the individual. The media is simply one tool to use.

Given that assumption, it would be well within the bounds of reason to revoke any and all special privileges associated with being a member of the press. After all, they are just conducting business as any other business does. Why any sort of special 'freedom of the press' privileges then?

That goes for anyone who dissemenates information, not just the big corporate media companies, who can not claim freedom of the press for everything. Its not the who, its the what that is protected.
