GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information...[W:220, 325]

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

That makes no sense. How can something never said or written be viewed as obstruction? Thought police?

You'd have a point if it was said or written and then was destroyed or hidden. And then you have to prove it's existence.

Omitting information from public record because it's evidence of illegal activity is obstruction. Hell, Nixon lost 18 minutes of audio tape and had to resign. Lerner lost years worth of emails and retired with full benefits.

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

Maybe obstruction is but not saying anything in email isn't obstruction.

Trying to cover up statements in emails from a congressional investigation is bad juju. I'll bet she's sweating like a ________.

You fill in the blank.

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

Depends on the instruction. It's a stretch to say that it's obstruction because you should be careful in what you put in your emails.

If the, "what", is obvious evidence of illegal activity, it's no stretch at all.

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

Your ability to discern truth is suspect.

No. It isn't. It is very clear that truth is among the last of things that matter.

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

I think it's prudent advise, you don't want the staff to include confidential information.

In the context of the OP it's at least a violation of federal guidelines and, depending on matters of fact in specific cases, could be criminal.

Yes, like if someone destroyed something like ,oh I don't know, A FREEKIN HARD DRIVE!

It wouldn't be if it is how you characterize it, but she said it was specifically so Congress cannot get information.

Do you not see that as obstruction?

What would Lerner want to hide from Congress?

What would be confidential to be withheld from Congress?

Please be specific.

It's time to charge Lerner with a crine, put her ass in hancuffs and see what she jas to say, then.

Details of a taxpayer.

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

In the context of Congressional interest it's against federal guidelines and in some cases can be illegal.

In other words "the way I see it". That's the problem. You can't make **** up and expect people to take you seriously. You need evidence.
Evidence of harm would be a good start. Then you can explain how this helped the Democrats so much that they were all in on what would have been the stupidest misuse of IRS power imaginable. Little or no gains with a HUGE downside risk if discovered. You must be kidding right?

I have never seen an ass handcuff (asscuff?). Should I look on tumbler?

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

It's scandalous when a supervisor asks employees to watch their language in emails?

Yes, because we know Congress is always going after people for using bad language in their emails. How pathetic.

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

More "no real scandal here".... right guys?

It's a matter of perspective, and with what has happened...

Only the willingly blind could not see this as suspicious.

Maybe not yet but they sure do make mountains out of molehills so who knows what is next? All I know is that it proves NOTHING.

The same could be said of the reverse. Hanging on to every word like you are on a search for some holy grail or smoking gun for the ridiculous conspiracy story you guys made up is not very becoming. It actually makes you look desperate...pathetically desperate.

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

It is the IRS, it would be very prudent to be mindful of what is in a email, no matter the party of the POTUS. It is also smart advice for anyone who works in an office environment.

Yes, especially if the government is using the IRS to target the political opposition of the current administration, you certainly don't want to say where you got those orders in an email!

You might want to take the 5th, or claim that, oops, all those emails were lost. All things that an honest outfit would have to do to cover their tracks, right? Duh!

Ah, ignorance is bliss, isn't it?

OK, please school me on hard drive failure rates, the statistics involved in the IRS situation, and the inability to restore back files.

Since all groups including some progressive have been targeted, there is no indication that is happening.

Well, not to you or anyone who is frequently on the traitorous side of history.

For people who still have honor and have paid attention (I am not claiming that you have either honor or have paid attention - or its opposite) it is one more bit of evidence that she needs to be made an example of. Try her. Convict her. And then put her in prison until she dies. Fine her to strip her of any wealth she has or will ever have. When she dies throw her out into some field and let the dogs and birds eat her.

(it is such a good thing I have no strong opinions).

I actually believe agood percentage of americans just cant bring themselves to believe the government of the USA would do this to its own citizens. Guess what, they have and its not just the IRS! We are not a free people any more and everyone needs to realize this. I believe the EPA just pulled the same "hard drive crashed" BS a couple weeks ago, its now the default postion.

Hard drives fail all the time in the Whitehouse too...

But the GOP's flying monkeys hoping to put the former IRS official at the center of a massive Obama administration plot to target right-wing "social welfare" organizations need not go back in time to 1973 to decry the lost data. After all, in 2008 current House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa explained how the Bush White House conveniently lost 22 million emails during the Plamegate investigation that led to the conviction of Dick Cheney's chief of staff, Scooter Libby.

As you'll recall, millions of Bush White House emails conveniently went missing between 2003 and 2005, including those in the critical days during which the administration formulated its response to Ambassador Joe Wilson and his covert CIA operative wife, Valerie Plame. In July 2007, Darrell Issa accused Plame of perjury. Then, in February 2008, Issa turned IT expert and brushed off the email imbroglio as merely a software problem. As Mother Jones reported that March:

Issa Blamed IBM Software For Loss Of 22 Million Bush Emails | Crooks and Liars
