GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information...[W:220, 325]

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

It is the IRS, it would be very prudent to be mindful of what is in a email, no matter the party of the POTUS. It is also smart advice for anyone who works in an office environment.

I dont think she was referring to off color jokes?? Do you??? What will it take for you to realize whats going on here?

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

On April 9, 2013, Lois Lerner, the Director of Exempt Organization at the IRS, sent an email to Maria Hooke, who is an IT person at the IRS, and copied Nanette Downing, who was in charge of organizational audits as the Acting Director of Exempt Organizations-Examinations at the IRS.

Lerner email to Hooke and Downing on April 9, 2013:

I had a question today about OCS. I was cautioning folks about email and how we have had several occasions where Congress has asked for emails and there has been an electronic search for responsive emails—so we need to be cautious about what we say in emails. Someone asked if OCS conversations were also searchable—I don’;t know, but told them I would get back to them. Do you know?

Hooke response to Lerner and Downing on April 9, 2013:

OCS messages are not set to automatically save the standard; however the functionality exists within the software. That being said the parties involved in an OCS conversation can copy and save the contents of the conversation to an email or file.

To date OCS conversations are not specifically identified as part of the Electronic Data Request (EDR) for inforamtion, however, if one of the parties saved the conversation as an email or file they would become part of the electronic search.

My general recommendation is to treat the conversation as if it could/is being saved somehwere, as it is possible for either party of the conversation to retain the information and have it turn up as part of the electronic search.

Make sense?

Lerner response to Hooke and Downing on April 9, 2013:

Perfect

(This looks bad for Lerner!) Lerner told IRS employess

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

Obstruction of justice is a crime.
Ha Scooter Libby learned that lesson well.

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

Ha Scooter Libby learned that lesson well.

Hopefully Lerner and her posse will learn their lesson, as well.

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

Geese and ganders....that seems to be a recurring theme in government. I suggest it's tome to forget the geese and ganders until PERSONAL LIBERTY starts coming first in the equation.

As long as we keep on handing **** over to the government we'll never get this nation back on track.

This^^^^^^^^ please dont make this a left or right issue because its not. Its a WE THE PEOPLE issue and we americans will not stand for it!! They want us at each others throats, its the old divide and conquer and it seems to be working! Edit, After reading my post it might look like im in disagreement with you, which im not.

Do you know what Scooter Libby went to jail for??

Now you've done it... You played right into his hand. Changing the subject to slam conservatives/republicans is their goal, and you have just allowed him to make this about "Bush", rather than about the IRS and Lerner.

I'm affraid I'm going to have to deduct 2 points... :)

I don't think Scooter ever did go to jail. His sentence was commuted by Bush.

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

Why wouldn't she? Oh, I dunno....because obstruction of justice is illegal?

Maybe obstruction is but not saying anything in email isn't obstruction.

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

I know I'm gonna regret asking, but why do you think Lerner took the 5th?

For precisely the reason she told her colleagues not to say anything in email. The Republicans will distort and misrepresent everything and anything. Better to say nothing and let them just make-up stuff to than to give them something they can lie about.

If you instruct your personell to omit information from public record, because it could be used as evidence of illegal activity, it's obstruction of justice.

He never did, President commuted his 30-month sentence.

That makes no sense. How can something never said or written be viewed as obstruction? Thought police?

You'd have a point if it was said or written and then was destroyed or hidden. And then you have to prove it's existence.

No he did go to jail, and it had nothing to do with Valerie. He found to have nothing to do with releasing her name as originally charged. He was given 2yrs for giving a false statement on something not even pertaining to the original charge. I could careless about Libby but the man was railroaded there is no two ways about it.

Re: GOP: Lerner warned IRS employees to hide information from Congress

It's scandalous when a supervisor asks employees to watch their language in emails?

In the context of Congressional interest it's against federal guidelines and in some cases can be illegal.

You can talk about Lerner and the IRS all you want Grim, I really couldn't care less.

Exactly who was obstructed?

If proven by corroborated testimony, the instruction is obstruction.

Depends on the instruction. It's a stretch to say that it's obstruction because you should be careful in what you put in your emails.

The instruction conveyed in #36 would seem to qualify.

No he wasn't railroaded at all.

Of course you don't because it is your side you are defending. If this was going on under the GOP you would be having a fit. People like you who look at everything thru their partisan , whether right or left, glasses are why things are so screwed up.

#36 is just apdst pulling things out of his butt. You got a quote?

I inferred that #36 referenced the OP quote. That qualifies at least as contrary to federal guidelines, and obstruction of Congress if there was underlying wrongdoing.
