China thinks it can defeat America in battle

It really depends who is in charge. There isn't a chance in Hell this president would assist Taiwan in any meaningful way.

We would hope not. Much of the reason Obama was elected was to angle away from military engagements.

Just trying to let China know that the USA is ready, willing, and able to kick its ass.

If they need some more info about what I'm talking about they can talk with Saddam Hussein or Usama bin Laden.

As if Obama would seek a declaration of war, not that he needs one.

Americans who support the constitution, prefer our presidents obtain a declaration of war before committing our troops unilaterally. That's what Obama was elected for, though he's used our troops more than we would have liked at this point.

The War Powers Act is constitutional.

They won't have to, because he won't ask them to. However, he still has The War Powers Act.

The one designed for a presidents use in the event of imminent threat of attack or actual attack? The one that has been abused so often to commit our troops to folly, that one?

I doubt taking on China however could be compared to taking on OBL or SH.

Wouldn't China attacking the U.S. be like McDonald's attacking their customers?

Right,China won't be very hard to locate.

We control the economic battle as well. We can cripple the Chinese economy with one simple act - stop making payments on our debt to them. We can find other sources for the goods China provides, but they aren't going to find anyone that will keep their economy floating with the cash that our debt payments provides.

Given our balance of trade, or rather imbalance, and skyrocketing national debt, don't count on winning any economic battles any time soon.

Nuclear War. MAD. Mutually assured destruction. A War without a winner. I guess that makes China right because the USA would not win. Does that make all the dead Chinese winners by a technical default, don't you think. Sounds like Pentagon thinking to me. "War is good business." Business is good. That $700 billion dollar USA military offense budget gotta be doubled or tripled. I mean, we talkin' Big Business here. Big USA Business. Corporatism with a capital "C."

How will a submarine, nuclear or otherwise, prevent an invasion over a 100-mile strait?

Because people are idiots. Of course China could take an island 100 miles off its own bloody coast, I don't care how many submarines we have.

Newsflash #2.... North Korea could conquer South Korea and annihilate the US presence there as well.

The question is, what would happen AFTER either of those scenarios. Could China take Taiwan momentarily? Yes. Could they engage the United States in a drawn-out Pacific war on several fronts? Probably not.

Same goes for Korea.

So the real question is, which side is willing to commit more to the cause. If the US goes all-in and says we're not letting China take Taiwan at any cost, then while they could likely take it at first, we would likely be able to take it back after a long and bloody struggle on multiple fronts.

This war between China and the US will never happen in our lifetimes.

What's there that he's right about? Obama is not out to destroy this country and he isn't a super secret Muslim. You and him are no better than any other truther that claimed Bush was behind 9/11. Some on the right have a severe case of Obama Deranged Syndrome and need some serious help. Is Obama a lousy president? Yes, I will agree there. Is he purposely trying to destroy America? No, he is not.

Yes, calling it hyperbole was SPOT ON!
Of course it was, any criticism of Obama is only hyperbole, derangement, or racism.

China won't invade Taiwan (probably, but we wouldn't retaliate if they did) nor would we ever attack China militarily. The only MAD would be on our hopelessly intertwined economies if such a thing were to occur.

No nation is going to militarily challenge the United States while Obama is working so hard to destroy it from within.

Obama and his accelerating destruction of our military and our culture is the best friend the enemies of America ever had.

Right on cue.
Don't you know another song?

This is the adult version of the old schoolyard "I wonder if I could beat XYZ up...."

Boys and their guns.

I think we're psychologically wired to form rivalries and to want to see what the other guy's got.

Shrub's right.

My oldest is in the Navy, and long before he joined I was a avid researcher and Fan of our Navy.

Tom Clancy has a great book on Subs.

You cant overlook the threat that is our huge, silent and invisible mobile Nuclear missle launchers.

That can park undetected off any Coast in the World and rain down massive destruction in a span of about 15 minutes.

The Russians, Chinese, Iran, etc are more threatened by our Boomers than anything else we have, and they should be

I don't believe in MAD. Personally, I think the whole nuclear annihilation argument is a giant BS scare tactic meant to prevent another world war.

Did you never watch War Games growing up?

The US may be able to win a battle, especially at sea, but on land and even in the air and an overall war... nope. Reason... China 1.5 billion people, USA 320 million.

But saying that, China has zero reason to invade Taiwan. Why? There is tons of business going both ways and it would cost the Chinese economy billions if they did so.

Just one B-52, loaded up with CBU-97 Cluster Bombs could take out a entire Tank division.

Man power doesn't matter in the age of High tech weaponry and tactical nukes.

Closer to 1.3 billion, but nevertheless, all that really requires is that we kill four Chinamen for every one of ours who gets killed.

Since I'd expect something closer to 10:1 if not 15:1 I fail to see where China would have a realistic advantage.
