Supreme Court Strikes Down Abortion Clinic Buffer Zones

I'll wait for you to demonstrate anything other than anecdotal evidence.

International adoptions are only 25% of the total.:peace

Lol, good stuff - too bad it has nothing to do with what we're discussing. 25% of total adoptions would mean there is 33% overlap between intercountry adoptions and adoptions of US citizen. 50% of those which again overlap in the age department. You're way out of your league here Jack.

I'm not the one impugning the motives of people who only want to provide loving homes for children. I'm pretty comfortable where I am. :peace

The numbers show what people want Jack. You said they want babies and yet in 33% of cases, people pick foreign born babies 50% of the time. Why is that? The exoticism factor.

As I posted earlier, I know several people who adopted internationally. All did so only after coming up empty in repeated attempts to adopt in the US. Given the expense and very real possibility of fraud, no one goes the international route if they don't have to. I think your figures are faulty.:peace

Supreme Court Strikes Down Abortion Clinic Buffer Zones

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Thursday unanimously struck down a Massachusetts law that barred protests near abortion clinics.
The law, enacted in 2007, created 35-foot buffer zones around entrances to abortion clinics. State officials said the law was a response to a history of harassment and violence at abortion clinics in Massachusetts, including a shooting rampage at two facilities in 1994.
The law was challenged on First Amendment grounds by opponents of abortion who said they sought to have quiet conversations with women entering clinics to tell them about alternatives to abortion.
The court was unanimous about the bottom line but divided on the reasoning. Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. wrote a relatively narrow majority opinion. He was joined by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen G. Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan. He suggested that the state could pursue other alternatives.
Justice Antonin Scalia, in a concurrence joined by Justices Anthony M. Kennedy and Clarence Thomas, said the majority’s approach was too tentative. The law, he said, is “unconstitutional root and branch.”
Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. filed a separate concurrence.

I am sorry to say that I have to agree with you. Sometimes in reality free speech comes at a cost which by all human decency we shouldn't have to bear. Westboro Baptists and Operation Rescue are two really awful organizations whose "speech" in their respective contexts really doesn't contribute much to the 'Marketplace of Ideas'. Nevertheless, we must protect their speech in order to ensure the Marketplace of Ideas is protected. Bitter pill to swallow, but I fully believe the decision by the Supreme Court was the correct one.

In America, all protesters should be able to protest on public property. Putting them inside of a cyclone fence 3 blocks away is very un-American, regardless of the issue.

Not if the protest interferes with operations at a medical facility.

Not if the protest interferes with operations at a medical facility.

If that is what is happening, then the medical facility needs to call the Police or hire a couple of "doormen".

It's a clear case of one party intruding on the privacy and freedom of another party, no different than harassment. That should always be illegal.

Not in a public place.

Not in a public place.

You're letting the issue of abortion cloud your judgment. A place being public has no bearing on whether or not something qualifies as harassment.

Harassment is governed by state laws, which vary by state, but is generally defined as a course of conduct which annoys, threatens, intimidates, alarms, or puts a person in fear of their safety. Harassment is unwanted, unwelcomed and uninvited behavior that demeans, threatens or offends the victim and results in a hostile environment for the victim. Harassing behavior may include, but is not limited to, epithets, derogatory comments or slurs and lewd propositions, assault, impeding or blocking movement, offensive touching or any physical interference with normal work or movement, and visual insults, such as derogatory posters or cartoons.

Harassment Law & Legal Definition

The protests against clinics where abortions are performed, and those who intend to use them, clearly qualifies.

If that is what is happening, then the medical facility needs to call the Police or hire a couple of "doormen".

They often do both, to little effect. You end up with the word of the escort against the denial of a hundred protesters. Cops beat down liberal protesters at the slightest provocation, not conservatives.

A friend of mine volunteers as an escort like this. These protesters are not like the sweet little nun hand picked for this legal challenge.

I suppose if an OWS protester(s) can crash on the porch of a business then buffer zones are moot.

Standing on a side-walk, protesting, does not qualify as harassment in front of an abortion clinic anymore than it does in front of a meatpacking plant.

Get back to me on what a victory of freedom of speech is when these entitled robe-wearers strike down any buffer between the public screaming and threatening them inches from their faces while they fear being murdered by similar insane harassers.

This is great news for anyone that truly believe sin free speech. Most liberals claim they do but don't so will view this as bad news.

If you can't appreciate that quote, regardless of your political views then I have no use for you.

lol

if one can't appreciate that quote.. a quote basically preaching about tolerance... then you can't appreciate them.

Irony alert.

Also funny... you posting this tripe that puts you on a pedestal looking down on others with a faux superiority complex while affixed with the typo "sin".
