The outrage came hard and fast after a 3-year-old girl badly scarred and wearing an eye patch because of a pit bull attack was apparently asked to leave a KFC restaurant because her appearance upset other customers.
After social media users opened fire on the restaurant, calling for a boycott, the apology from the chain came quickly too.
The company said it will donate $30,000 to assist with the girl's medical bills.
"The entire KFC family is behind Victoria," company spokesman Rich Maynard said.
'Her face is disrupting our customers'
Victoria Wilcher was mauled by three pit bulls a few months ago, causing her to need regular medical treatment. After a doctor's visit last week, grandmother Kelly Mullins took the child to a KFC in Jackson, Mississippi.
"I ordered a large sweet tea and her some mashed potatoes and gravy because she was hungry," Mullins told CNN affiliate WAPT.
"She was on a feeding tube at the time, but I figured she could just swallow (the potatoes). They just told us, they said, 'We have to ask you to leave because her face is disrupting our customers.' (Victoria) understood exactly what they said."
Victoria cried all the way home, Mullins said.
"She's got a lot of surgeries to go through and she won't even look in the mirror anymore," Mullins told WAPT. "When we go to a store, she doesn't even want to get out (of the car). She's 3 years old and she's embarrassed about what she looks like. She's embarrassed and I hate it because she shouldn't be. It ain't her fault."
Anger online
Victoria's family recounted the incident in a Facebook page set up to raise money for her medical expenses.
"Does this face look scary to you?" the family posted on the Victoria's Victories Facebook page. "I personally will never step foot in another KFC again and will be personally writing the CEO."
The anger spread.

There's got to be more to this story.

Nobody is that heartless.

I would say if her face was scaring other customers, those customers are spineless wimps. That little girl is still beautiful.

Some people are idiots. I'm sure fast food places have an even higher idiot ratio.

I can't even imagine standing there and listening to someone kick her out or complain about her appearance. They'd need to call the fire department to get my hands off their neck.

There's this little itsy-bitsy part of me that wonders if it happened. Can't help it. I would think there would be a riot in the restaurant started by a family member who shouted, "Are you ****ing KIDDING me?????!!!!

Plenty of people are, actually, and they come from all walks of life.

Never, ever, underestimate the cruelty humans show other humans.

The headline is wrong.

Idiot employee at KFC asks child's family to remove her

That's all good and well. But the fact is your employees represent you. They are you. This is the cost of a bad hire.

Bad publicity. That I go along with.

I know neither my wife nor myself would take that laying down.

I can't imagine even total strangers taking that lying down.

A good many people just seem to have no class whatsoever nowadays. I remember when I was a little girl around 4 years of age, seeing the elderly woman who lived next door to us sitting in a wheelchair. She had had both legs amputated above the knee, and I didn't understand what I was seeing, so it scared me a little, but my mother had always taught me to never comment on someone's appearance no matter how odd or scary it seemed, because that was very poor manners, and it would make that person feel bad. We still need to be teaching people to have some sensitivity to the plight of others, and treat them the way we would want to be treated. People are so freaking heartless these days.

I don't think so Maggie. Many people are just freaking cowards these days.

A introduction for the girl like the Chaucer character does in 'A Knight's Tale' (minus fake stuff) should suffice to put everyone at ease.
