No, the division was a dumb idea and it still is. The oil fields make dividing the country impossible. If you reach a deal where in the five states share in the oil revenue but are otherwise separate then you really have only recreated current Iraq.

I didn't say it was a good idea. I said I remembered the idea. I am sure the Kurds wouldn't mind being sliced out of Iraq. They haven't had their own country in centuries.

I said it isn't happening. I'm sure the Kurds would love their own country... so long as they get some oil wells. That is why the Kurds won't get their own country.

I agree entirely. Also, Saudi Arabia doesn't want the region stable. They actively back terrorists to undermine their enemies in Iraq and Iran (and just generally give aid to terrorists).

Saudi Arabia mostly wants to sell oil, make money, and buy expensive cars and gold airplanes, but it does also want stability. they just want the West to do it for them, and the West has to do it because we refuse to replace oil.

if there was a growing civil war in South America which was causing regional instability, Saudi Arabia wouldn't lift a finger to help. we need to get out of that region of the world so that they have to do something about it.

Well, I would say that they want stability in their own country, but the Saudis do have a history of funding terrorism. Also, I would not say that we refuse to replace oil, but there are economic and political interests that actively discourage seeking out alternative energy sources.

But I do agree we should leave the MECA (Middle East/Central Asia) region.

This isn't our problem, what are you talking about. The US removed the only stabilising force in Iraq leaving it in chaos and the Sunnis and Shia free to resume fighting, that Saddam didn't allow. It is however Iran's problem now considering that a border country is in ruin. What would be ironic is if Iran is able to bring a stability to Iraq that US foreign policy failed miserably at.
