Ambush leaves 2 Vegas officers and Wal-Mart shopper dead; suspects also [W:74, 162]

re: Ambush leaves 2 Vegas officers and Wal-Mart shopper dead; suspects also dead[W:74]

Still way too early but the Review Journal article said that they did exchange gunfire with an armed CCW holder."One unconfirmed report is that the two exchanged gunfire with a citizen who was carrying a concealed weapon, and that one of the shooters was injured."
`
A lot of things get reported like this;

Asked about reports that during the incident one of the shooters had shouted “the revolution has begun,” the sheriff said he was unable to confirm that information. - Source

LVMPD has a reputation for being a brutal agency with little regard for people's rights.

If someone in the restaurant had carried, maybe the scumbags wouldn't have made it to Walmart.

except he shot two armed and trained people. Just what do you think one of the internet cowboys could have done?

Only five people dead? How did this even make the news?

re: Ambush leaves 2 Vegas officers and Wal-Mart shopper dead; suspects also dead[W:74]

Two can play that game, if the guy had not been allowed to own a gun he most likely would have never been able to go on a shooting spree.

Because all signs point to this duo being the law abiding types...

Not a damn thing if they were smart.

Those who carry concealed are not cops.

Their only goal is to protect themselves, not everyone else.

Protection of society is the job of police.

You are saying the cops had it coming? Wow, just wow.How sad and pathetic.

re: Ambush leaves 2 Vegas officers and Wal-Mart shopper dead; suspects also dead[W:74]

If someone is willing to be basically a suicide shooter there isn't much you can do to protect yourself. You have two trained LEO's who are armed and wearing bulletproof vests taken out because you can't eat your lunch with your handgun in your hand. The two officers didn't have a chance. It was reported somewhere that at least one of the officers did get a shot off.

I can understand one crazy deciding to make a name for himself by shooting some people and then committing suicide. But finding two people to agree to this is unbelievable. You would almost think one of them might just prior to the episode might say, " You know, I been thinking about this plan a little .............".

We have some screwed up people running around us.

Wrong. If you have the capability of helping someone who is in imminent danger you have an obligation to help.

Metro has done some pretty bad stuff. Look up Eric Scott.

They didn't "deserve" to get murdered and nobody said they did. All that was offered was a possible motive.

BTW...15 minute response time by LV Metro PD.

The quote which I replied to had the comment of "Sometimes you reap what you sow". That implied that these cops somehow did something to deserve it. Nothing I have read has shown these cops deserved it. Not sure why you are defending an undefendable statement such as that.

re: Ambush leaves 2 Vegas officers and Wal-Mart shopper dead; suspects also dead[W:74]

Sounds like they were your garden variety conspiracy nuts.

Details are sketchy but Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department sources close to the investigation say the shooters shouted that “this is the start of a revolution” before opening fire on the officers, and draped their bodies with cloth showing a Revolutionary War-era flag. Investigators have also found paraphernalia associated with white supremacists.

Sunday night Metro homicide investigators and FBI agents cordoned off and were searching a small apartment complex at 110 S. Bruce St., about four miles from the shooting scene. A resident of the complex said he had spoken with a man who lived in the apartment being searched. He said the man appeared “militant,” and often talked about conspiracy theories.

An explosion was heard at the apartment complex at about 9:30 p.m., but no information was immediately available.

Witnesses told police one of the shooters yelled “This is the start of a revolution” before shooting the officers. Gillespie later said he could not confirm that.

The shooters then stripped the officers of their weapons and ammunition and badges, according to a law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation. They then covered the officers with something that featured the Gadsden flag, a yellow banner with a coiled snake above the words, “Don’t tread on Me.”

The flag is named for Christopher Gadsden a Revolutionary War general who designed it. It has recently come back in vogue as an adopted symbol of the American tea party movement.

So another thread complaining, from at least one poster, about the ability of people to even own guns...This incident wasn't caused by the ownership of a tool, it could have been a knife, machete, axe, car, bat, any number of implements used to cause mayhem.

If you don't like guns, good for YOU!, but as for me, I own guns, and like to practice with them, and consider myself fortunate to live in a country that doesn't presume to tell me what I can own, and what I can't.

They "shot two armed and trained people" as an ambush. It makes no difference they were armed and trained. You're acting like cops had been defeated in a gun battle and so a citizen has no chance. That's BS.

re: Ambush leaves 2 Vegas officers and Wal-Mart shopper dead; suspects also dead[W:74]

`
Actually if that's the case, it should be about ANYONE getting murdered. Why do you stop at just police?

You're missing the bigger picture. If two civilians get into it, it's hard to tell who is the aggressor. There could be confusion about whom to shoot. However, when it comes to a cop being shot THERE IS NO DOUBT and so one should act decisively and without any pause regarding target.

Now you understand why the victims being cops makes the decision to fire all the more easy?

That idea seems pretty dangerous to me. What would actuallyend up happening? Seems more likely that more innocent people would end up getting killed.

Let me guess... you've never been to a range. Shooting someone from point blank, that does not know you're about to shoot them, is rather simple (as illustrated by two dead cops). By the time one notices you're drawn and aiming, they're down.

Sad that this couldn't even get past page 2 till it turned into a gun debate.
Surprised that it took 4 pages to get to the killing cops is good point. Reminds me of Political Forum.

Anyway.

Condolences to the officers and their families.

Apparently, they got some pretty strong drugs (garage style, of course, maybe meth but probably salt) at Bundy-fest.

re: Ambush leaves 2 Vegas officers and Wal-Mart shopper dead; suspects also dead[W:74]

I did not say that, but all I am saying is that I am happy to live in a society when gun ownership is rare and mostly in the hands of people who ought to own guns (the police, army, navy, military police, hunters and people who shoot as a sport). All have to comply with strict ownership laws created to make sure their guns are not stolen and used for violent crimes.

No system is perfect but I feel more comfortable in a gun limited society. A lot of countries have that kind of system and in MY country it works fine.

Now I realize that in the US there are a lot more hunters and that seems fine to me, a lot of people who live far outside civilization with wild and dangerous animals around need protection which is fine too, some people want to protect their homes with guns and even though I would never want a gun in my house, that should be the decision of every house owner him or herself. But I do not see the need for having dozens of guns or high powered semi-automatic guns.

But I also do not see the need for people to have knives with them. Simply said I do not like weapons and in some countries that works and in other countries that does not work.

No, but the war on drugs is also not winning anything either except filling the jail system with non-violent offenders who get sentenced for ridiculously long sentences that do not stop crime or the use of drugs.

some want to live as sheep worrying only about the farmer

some want to live free and will accept the risk of having to deal with a wolf. But the fact remains, sheep in pens can never escape the farmer. Those in the field can escape the wolf
