Obama Press Secretary Jay Carney Resigns

This was a huge surprise.

Did anyone see this coming?

I try to keep up with the news, but I didn't see a hint of this.

It's been talked about for a while....maybe a month or so. Not a surprise.

It's not on Drudge yet...

And BTW, some press secretaries have done a good job.

Looks like Carney is ****ing smooching Obama's arm. Bromance.

Isn't that sweet.

Excuse me while I go barf.

I only wish he had been fired.

Fired? The guy never told the damned truth, which is precisely what is required of any press secretary in this Administration.

Yes, it is. Drudge has had it as his lead story--directly above the title on his web page--all morning headlined "Obama Cleans House" and linked to this NBC story: Podium Shuffle: Carney Resigns as White House Press Secretary - NBC News

What is surprising though is that Drudge has not yet reported that Shinseki has resigned though that has been on Facebook for an hour or so now.

Carney would actually be a pretty good replacement for Morgan at CNN if he has not so permanently tainted himself by so blatantly obfusicating and lying for Obama again and again. I don't see how he could go to work for Fox because there he would have to admit that he had blatantly obfusicated and lied again and again.

Tony Snow did not do that when he was Bush 43's press secretary. If he couldn't tell the truth, he would tell them he was not yet at liberty to comment. And he was excellent hosting the Fox News Sunday show at Fox. He was one of my favorite people--I (as well as others) used to chat with him in the political chatrooms on AOL years ago. I was once looking for a particular column he had written on capital gains one time and asked him about it as it was one of the best short summaries and analysis I had ever seen. He asked for my address and a few days later I received a clipping of that column in the mail. He was thoroughly a good person with no obvious vices and respected by those who knew him on both sides of the aisle.

Rumor has it that he's been negotiating with CNN for a few months to be on their payroll after he left the White House. Maybe he can replace Piers Morgan? At least it would be consistent in the tone of that show.

And, who can ever forget this wonderful display of professionalism and honesty:

That's just painful to watch. I had only ever read the transcripts, watching the full 8 minutes reenforces to me why Carney might want out now. Before the special committee investigations start, which could conceivably be a real chore to have to deal with depending on what comes out in the process. Best to leave that flogging to a fresh horse!

There has been speculation about this for a while now in some quarters. Since about the time that article on Carney's family life and home came out. The one with the socialist recruiting posters on the wall of their house that caused some snickers. This a job that is a pure pressure cooker and having to be the public flack vest for Obama and the administration? Can't have been easy or frankly good for Carney's health. While I don't much care for a lot of the prevaricating and dissembling he has had to do on behalf of the administration, I don't wish ill towards the man. Whatever he does next will obviously be much more enjoyable than having to smile and pretend you don't know what a line of BS you are spouting. At least the pay was good.;)

Nothing new here. If an opportunity presents itself this late in the game, go for it. Happens all the time.

Principal deputy press secretary Josh Earnest, 39, will replace Carney at the podium in the White House Briefing Room, the president said.

“His name describes his demeanor,” Obama said of Earnest. “Josh is an earnest guy and you can’t find just a nicer individual, even outside of Washington.… He is of sound judgment and great temperament. He is honest and full of integrity.”

Earnest quickly signaled that he plans to stay in the new job for some time, perhaps even until Obama leaves office in 2017.

I'm sure he'll lose that honesty and integrity right off the bat. Wonder if this is the face he makes when forced to tell a lie?

Never said otherwise. In fact, I'm surprised he stayed this long. Those guys can make seriously big bucks in the real world after holding that gig in the White House. Ari Fleischer, GWB's Press Secretary, has a very successful media and PR firm focusing on sports stars and professional sports teams.

I heard Dana Perino say on Fox that although she'd hoped the Admin would choose someone more likely to "shake things up," Earnest is a solid, safe choice.
yes, because dana perino is so knowledgable
"We did not have a terrorist attack on our country during President Bush's term,"

Yeah, I don't think their job description allows for 'shaking things up' -- especially in this administration. Damage Control is more like it. Josh will provide cover for Barack or he'll be gone. Simple as that.

Looks like a nice guy. Hope he's up for the job. ;)

Hell, I saw this coming weeks ago, but kept it from all of you because I knew ya'll would be acting gleefully and with bated breath.
