WASHINGTON — President Obama said Friday that Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki will resign in the wake of systemic problems with the health care for veterans.Obama said he regretted accepting the resignation, but "the VA needs new leadership" and he agreed with Shinseki that he has become a distraction.
"We don't have time for distractions," Obama said. "We need to fix the problem."

The only logical thing he could do. This massive bureaucratic **** up that happened under his watch, he deserves to get the boot, and possibly more.

I have a feeling this will be all the " accountability " the Obama administration will own up to.

Do you think this started with the Obama administration? I dont. I dont know when it started but I have a feeling it has been going on for a while now.

Right now the bi partisan investigations on this scandal are getting no where.

The VA refuses to turn over documents that would lead to real accountability.

Obstructionism is one thing the Obama administration is good at, whether its the Benghazi scandal, the IRS scandal or the Gun walking scandal.

oloserhuman campaigned on fixing the VA. If this was his fix HE FAILED miserably and "bush did it" is as lame as a dead soldier deserving our care today.

I retired from the US Navy in 1996. Went to the Memphis, Tn VA hospital twice a month for 4 months and never once did I see a real DR. I saw Nurses, PAs and even a pharmacist once.
I enrolled in Tri-Care and have never set foot in another VA Hospital.

There were problems at least that far back.

The problems pre-date Bush by a far margin. To try to blame this on one man or party is nothing more then childish partisanship at it's worst.

I worked at the VA, it was terrible.

It helps that all he needs to do is obstruct for maybe 3 months and then the media and his fans claim it is old news and why can't everyone just get over it.

Isn't this issue the falsification of documents and not the long wait times? When did that start?

Why is that left out of peoples comments on this matter?

Heya Mason :2wave: .....even when the VA was first created. It had the same the same problems. Guess who the VA first head was. One year after he took the job even though he cared for the troops and they knew he did. They still made him resign all due to accountability.

I thought that was pretty much common knowledge. That is what all this has been about. However I think you'll find out that has been going on for a lot of administrations.

People have been fighting the VA since at least the 70s. All the VN veterans that couldn't get the care they needed.

As much as some people would like to blame the current administration for all these problems is just more of the same silly partisan BS.

You are saying the falsification of documents have been going on for many administrations?

I very much doubt that this will speed up reform at the VA even a little bit.

Shinseki's basically taking the fall for years of mismanagement. Crappy way to end an outstanding career.

Obama said after he fooled the people and was elected as POTUS back in 2008, "Judge me by who I surround myself with."

It was Army Chief of Staff Gen. Eric Shinseki who was behind that all soldiers would wear the beret without having to earn it.

That should have been a red flag you would think.

I really doubt that simply changing up the guy in charge is going to solve the problem. Failing to care for our vets has been the status quo for more than a decade. It's something congress needs to address. It needs to alter the priorities and structure of the program, and make sure it's properly funded. If it takes 10 months for someone to get an appointment, then there needs to be more doctors for them to see.

Yeah but he also called Rumsfeld on the number of troops needed in Iraq and was right.

Heya Gaius. :2wave: Yep.....he was always critical of the Bush Administration and did get into it with Rumsfeld.

It wouldn't surprise me a bit.

Yeah but he also called Rumsfeld on the number of troops needed in Iraq and was right.

I concur.

At least Gen. Shinseki wasn't a "yes man" and said what he was suppose to say.

A good commander never surrounds himself with yes men. Be it a rifle platoon commander all the way up to the Commander in Chief.

Do you have a link to a story about the VA refusing to turn over documents?

Hmmm...he resigned because it happened on his watch and he didnt know about it but apparently should have. Wait...he resigned for THAT?? In THIS administration???

Heya Gaius. :2wave: Yep.....he was always critical of the Bush Administration and did get into it with Rumsfeld.

That's the only reason why Obama picked Gen. Eric Shinseki for running the VA.

Has a physician ever been in charge of the VA before ?

Would you appoint a traffic cop to run a hospital ?
