Shinseki apologizes, gets summoned to White House for ominous meeting C

Back in the day my father had Campus Insurance which became Tricare. He would get medical services at the local hospital, travel 50 miles to an army base for some medical care including for the family (I remember seeing a military doctor as a small child because I loved eating in Canteen there) and also would go to the VA hospital 2 hours away because our rural hospital was unable to do certain things. But he also went to a University Hospital and of course my mother had benefits after he died and never went to the VA hospital for treatment that I recall. Must veterans use their benefits only at VA facilities?

The solution is obvious. Just buy a good health insurance policy for the vets and shut down the VA. Those insurance policies would cost less than 1/2 as much as the VA costs. Why are we so timid about reducing the size of government when the benefits are so obvious.

Since when is it the job of congressional chiefs of staff to monitor this?

Since it affects those brave men and women who go into battle the Congress approved of that now live and seek government help that the Congress Critters have dozens of 'oversight' committees trying to score political points but more to the point, live in the districts these Congress Critters are supposed to represent...

Their job is to oversee everything from food standards to on the job safety- or are the dozens of Congressional committees news to you? Is the concept of a Congressman doing more than sitting for the photo-op pushing yet another to 'get to the bottom' of a political tug of war all you think they do?

So you think the Congressional staff doesn't need to pay any more attention to the people who elected the politician than what push button issues can be used to stay at the public trough???? :doh

Over Used...
Under Staffed...
Under Paid...
Over Worked...

That was my experience working at the VA and that was years ago. Best thing I did was move to a private health services company.

Under what authority can congressional staffeers force government employees to submit to oversight?

...no, just.... no.

He's a veteran, and a republican, and a conservative. Sometimes I think republicans would bitch if you hung them with a new rope.

McCain is no conservative. Veteran & Republican, yes. Conservative, not even.

According to Fox, Shinseki is gone.

Is she your pick, or do you think Obama is going to pick her?

She sounds good on the surface, an advocate for veterans, but actions speak louder than words. I'd like to think Obama would pick a veteran who might know what it's like to struggle with battle wounds, one who has seen combat experience.

I would agree that he'll pick a veteran and not a bureaucrat for this role. In addition to being very smart, it would also be politically logical.
