Judge puts U.S. Rep. Conyers back on primary ballot[W:28]

Re: Judge puts U.S. Rep. Conyers back on primary ballot

Not in this case. It seems that he went out of his way to find a reason to uphold the law, and sided with the 4 liberals.

I wish I knew why.

He is a strict constitutionalist. Should he change that so he only makes rulings you like without regards to the constitution? How very conservative of you...

Because contrary to what that poster said, he is not consistently conservative.

Moderator's Warning:
Just a friendly reminder, the topic is not each other.

Name one case that he ruled in a manor at odds with conservatism.

And people wonder why there is no confidence in the election system....Don't have enough valid signatures to get on the ballot? Well, no problem, just get your appeal in front of a friendly judge, and presto! You're in!

What the written law says is irrelevant today to most judges. It is all about their agenda and what they can do to make them feel good.

This is why I applaud news like this:

Massachusetts governor signs early voting bill | Boston Herald

BOSTON — Massachusetts voters will be able to register online and cast their ballots up to 11 days before Election Day under a new law designed to update the state's election laws.

The goal of the new law — which also lets 16- and 17-year-olds pre-register to vote — is to encourage more participation at the ballot box and fully embrace digital technology.

Early voting will apply to all November state elections excluding primaries beginning in 2016 and will also permit early voting by mail.

Not in this case. I get that he labelled this bill not a tax before he labelled it a tax, but if a bill is a tax, then it must originate in the House.

Re: Judge puts U.S. Rep. Conyers back on primary ballot

Arizona Immigration Law SB 1070, 2012.

Nope, the opinion was based on enumerated constitional federal power. Upholding that power is not at odds with conservatism. Care to try again?

Re: Judge puts U.S. Rep. Conyers back on primary ballot

This guy should not be on the ballot. The law is quiet clear. This judge had no reason to overturn the states decision.

Good faith mistake what the hell is that. it is either filled out correctly or it isn't. he either has all the legit signatures required by law or he doesn't.
what is the purpose of law if no one is going to follow it. ol i am sorry the law only applies to us non elite people.

It is actually somewhat more complex than that. I recommend a visit to SCOTUSBlog and read up on the ruling.

Re: Judge puts U.S. Rep. Conyers back on primary ballot

Hell, why not just throw out the entire 'first Tuesday in November' thingy, and people can vote as much as they wish all year long.....

You don't seem to notice that the votes are not counted until Election Day.

FTFY
Well, no problem, just get your appeal in front of a friendly democrat judge, and presto! Unless of course, you happen to be a Republican.

As a conservative, I know what I believe the ruling should have been. He sided with the liberal judges and not with the conservative judges.

It's all about the judge being a democrat.

Or he followed legal precedent. That option seems possible.

And he ruled in opposition to the conservative judges, who held the conservative belief, which is what the discussion is about.

I'm all for free, fair and accessible elections. As long as there are checks and balances to ensure only real live people that are citizens of the US and the district in which they are voting are the ones doing the voting. Which makes me concerned about potential fraud in electronic internet registration of voters.

I don't agree with the old saying: Vote early, and vote often.

My state, NC which has been hammered by the left, has had early voting (in-person absentee voting) for years, just as Massachusetts just now put into place. I always vote in-person absentee in the early voting.

Holy **** that is hilarious. It is not conservative because you disagree with it!

Has online voting ever been proposed?

Re: Judge puts U.S. Rep. Conyers back on primary ballot

Do you have an example or should I make up opinions for you and attack those?
If you are looking for examples, you could start with the judge decisions to overturn state law and constitutional amendments on gay marriage.
