Another mass killing by a mentally deranged young man in a drive by shooting at Santa Barbara:

Gunman, six others killed in drive-by shooting, Santa Barbara police say | Fox News

A crazed gunman went on a shooting rampage in a popular Santa Barbara student enclave, killing six people and wounding seven others before being found dead in his car, in what authorities said was a “premeditated mass murder.”

Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown said early Saturday that written and videotaped preliminary evidence indicates that this was a "premeditated mass murder," and called the suspect "severely mentally disturbed."

Brown said that investigators were familiar with a YouTube video titled "Retribution" and were looking into whether the person in the video was linked to the killings, KEYT-TV reported on its website.

The young man in the video promises to take revenge on sorority girls who had rejected him over the years.

"Tomorrow is a day of retribution," the man in the video says into the camera while sitting in the driver's seat of a luxury car.

The shootings began around 9:27 p.m. Friday when the driver of a BMW began spraying bullets at people gathered in the beachfront city’s Isla Vista enclave to enjoy the start of the holiday weekend.

As sheriff’s deputies were attending to several victims, they were gathering suspect information and hearing reports of additional shots fired in several other areas of Isla Vista, the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

This psychopathic guy posted a creepy Youtube video complaining about being still a virgin at 22 yr old and hating all the blonde beautiful women he couldn't get and all sexually active men who had all the women they want for sex. For that he went on a killing rampage the next day? What's going on mentally with the young men of American society?

Interesting. Makes it sound like he feels he is justified in his actions... which isn't surprising. A villain is rarely a villain in his own eyes...

When is this nation going to get serious about the fact that (1) mental health problems remain rampant and (2) sexism is still a thing?

Sounded less like sexism and more like he was pissed off for not getting any sex. He also said he was going to kill the hoedawgs as well as the sluts.

Elliot Rodger's retribution YouTube video linked to college shootings

Since Youtube yanked the video it's here.

The two things that stand out to me are that the guy is totally self obsessed. I mean, hell, her refers to himself as "the perfect male". The other thing is the constant theme of sex. It's almost like doing this thing is going to be a sexual release for him.

Oh...I have to ask, if this guy walked into a gun shop and held off on the "murder everyone" talk would you think twice about selling him a gun?

He appears to be involved with MRA's of the type who call themselves "incels" -- involuntarily celibate. He's not the first person involved with these kinds of groups to murder women (or people in general) for similar reasons.

They can never seem to get anyone to show up to their meat space events, but on the rare occasion they do have a real-world presence, it always seems to be when one of them kills people.

It's probably some combination of pre-existing mental illness or psychopathy and the justification this movement gives to such people. It's part of why I think this brand of misogyny deserves more attention and blow-back than the old-fashioned kind. The new misogyny specifically targets men who are mentally ill or socially repellent or simply lack the ability to connect to people, and tells them that no matter how rude or abusive they are, they're entitled to sex and the service of women. They deserve to be angry women won't do whatever they want them to and they deserve to feel entitled to it -- in fact, they're not angry and entitled enough.

I give it 48 hours before one of these groups posts a pity party about how sad it is that this man was so maligned by wicked women who didn't feel obligated to sleep with him.

Six people dead is "mass murder"?

From this perspective this is just another week end in America.

Yes, six people dead is "mass murder". It's not like he would stop at six if not for police intervention that prevented his planned carnage. Watch the Youtube video of his annihilation rant.

OK, whatever you say. You are of course the experts on gun homicides, but I suggest most jurisdictions would class it as a multiple homicide. But, like I say, America is the single most developed country in the filed of of gun deaths, you are the man.

Not really a gun homicide expert. Just basing my take on the guy's intent. That's all.

Now it's confirmed that Peter Rodger, who was an assistant director on "The Hunger Games" film series, is the father of the deranged rampage killer who drove a black BMW during the shooting. According to AP news, the shooter's father had called police several weeks ago before the shooting rampage. The police did interview the shooter and let this murderous rampage proceed, apparently:

Attorney: son suspected in shooting rampage

A lawyer says the family of a man suspected in a shooting rampage near a Santa Barbara, California, university called police several weeks ago after being alarmed by YouTube videos "regarding suicide and the killing of people."

Attorney Alan Shifman said police conducted an investigation and interviewed the man. Shifman said police did not find a history of guns, but did say the man had trouble making friends.

Shifman is the attorney for Peter Rodger, who was an assistant director on "The Hunger Games" film series. Authorities have not confirmed the identity of the shooter.

Anybody watching the Youtube video knows that this psychopath is a pending disaster waiting to happen. Why does police always failed the public?

Yup, looks like his family figured out something was wrong, asked for help, and nothing was done.

Mental health issues need to be addressed better in this country.

It is hard to believe, IN THIS DAY AND AGE, that this goofy bastard couldn't find himself a piece of whatever.

What the hell does that mean?

Are you saying the police should find people to kill by what they posted in a YouTube video. Before they act out their threat?

Yup, looks like his family figured out something was wrong, asked for help, and nothing was done.

His family would have to have their son committed to a psychiatric facility. The police can't do it. They act after the fact.

Mass murder is the killing of 4 or more people in a single event. A multiple homicide simply means more than one person has been murdered.

He doesn't seem to be saying that, rather he seems to be saying that with regards to mental health issues with individuals that are a potential threat, the police often find out and then do nothing, then a rampage such as this occurs, when if something had been done earlier the rampage may not have occurred.

I don't know the system in California but I am certain you cannot simply call the police and say "my son, brother, father is acting weird and I am concerned" and expect the police to lock the person up. I'm fairly certain a judge will have to be involved. The judge will review evidence to determine if the person is a danger to himself or others and make a determination.

It would be most interesting to know the history behind the shooter. Was he in counseling, had he been in counseling? What medications was he taking, if any? And if he had previously taken medications, what were they and when did he stop taking them?

Yup, looks like his family figured out something was wrong, asked for help, and nothing was done.

Asked for help...but did nothing it seems. They called the police, but what are the police supposed to do? They can look into the reports and see if anything is credible, but they can't just arrest people without sufficient proof or evidence.

The father should have taken the kid to see a doctor if he was so concerned. But it seems that all he did was say "this seems dangerous, better call the police", and then when the police couldn't do anything, did nothing themselves.

Yeah... TBH, he must have given off some serious creep-vibes all the time, to manage to NOT get laid in these modern times in college. Either that or his sights were set on Malibu Barbie and nothing less would do.

Question in my mind... was he really mentally ill, or just a selfish rotten bastard who thought killing a bunch of random people was an equitable revenge for not being able to get Malibu Barbie drunk and high enough to hop in the sack?

Yup, looks like his family figured out something was wrong, asked for help, and nothing was done.

Seriously?

You are going to blame the system and not just the parents?

When something is wrong with your kids, you keep pushing until something is done.

My initial impression is that he was a spoiled little rich boy who probably had minimal parental discipline.

Am I missing something in your comments?
