Conservative political commentator and author Dinesh D’Souza, who made the film “2016: Obama’s America,” pleaded guilty to violating U.S. campaign finance law by using straw donors to exceed federal limits.
D’Souza’s guilty plea came on the day he was to begin trial on felony charges that he illegally reimbursed two close associates for contributing a total of $20,000 in 2012 to U.S. Senate candidate Wendy Long, a New York Republican. Federal law limits campaign contributions to $5,000 per individual in an election cycle.

D’Souza, of San Diego, had claimed that he was singled out for prosecution because of his views opposing President Barack Obama. The Federal Election Commission usually files civil claims in cases such as his, D’Souza said. Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara called the claim of selective prosecution baseless.

“We will investigate and prosecute violations of federal law, particularly those that undermine the integrity of the democratic electoral process, without regard to the defendant’s political persuasion or party affiliation,” Bharara said in a statement. “That is what we did in this case and what we will continue to do.”

Anyways his documentary was a conspiracy hack show, his books are terrible, and he is a crook.

So is the thread about the conviction, or about his books suck, because he's a Conservative? BTW, have you even read any of his books? Be honest!

Yes. Excerpts from Obama's America, and Life After Death.
This is about him pleading guilty.

I read some summaries about his books, but was not interested enough in them to actually read them myself. I did see the movie and while there many things I could say about the film, that it was about a conspiracy film? Hints to me this poster has no actual first hand knowledge about any of this and is regurgitating someone else's thoughts on the subject. Aside from that if D'Souza plead guilty then in my book he is. I was lead to believe he had another film about to be released. It will be interesting to see what comes of that and what effect this has on its conclusion.

In my opinion, there's only one book worth reading, and that is Illiberal Education.

Never read it but I did browse a summary of it. I've already got a large pile of "to read" books stacking up, so I doubt I'll actually ever do that. ;)

Apply the same standard to Obama and see if it's the case of being targeted...

Illiberal Education, The End of Racism, and Ronald Reagan. IMO, his first book was probably his best literary work. His recent works on President Obama, including his movie, were largely ideological statements. As I'm familiar with the ideological arguments that define Washington's discourse and its personalities, I didn't think those latter works would provide much new insight for me, as one only has so much time for reading. I do wonder if he got swept up in an ideological crusade of sorts so that his passion stifled his restraint when it came to making choices. I don't know.

I hope he gets his life in order again, both personally and professionally. He was an articulate proponent of the conservative message and over time he probably can regain at least some of what he's lost on account of his recent issues, if he chooses to return to the policy realm.

The reason why I highlighted that text is, even if one disagrees with it, it was about one of a dozen texts on the subject that were important in articulating a conservative (or primarily, neoconservative) reaction toward campus life and the academy during the 1970s, 1980s, and early 1990s.

Prison For D'Souza, Beach Time For Corzine

Prison For D’Souza, Beach Time For Corzine Selective enforcement of the law is a dangerous thing.May 21, 2014 By Mollie HemingwayConservative author Dinesh D’Souza pleaded guilty to breaking campaign finance laws. He was accused of having urged two friends to make $10,000 contributions to a Senate candidate and then reimbursing them. This is an illegal work-around of campaign contribution limits.

He won’t be sentenced until Sept. 23 but faces 16 months in prison and a $30,000 fine.

So a guy does something wrong and pleads guilty. What’s the big deal?

Well, there’s the ridiculosity (that’s a word, right?) of such campaign finance laws and the pretty serious looming sentence for the crime. Prison.

I should probably mention at this point that D’Souza really, really, really doesn’t like President Obama. In 2012 he produced a popular documentary called 2016: Obama’s America, a harshly critical look at Obama’s worldview and how it affected his governing. That was in turn based on a book called The Roots of Obama’s Rage. Not that D’Souza has avoided criticism from the right, but his disdain for progressives is returned in spades.

The Law Is A Funny Thing
Now let’s take a look at one Jon Corzine. Who is he? Well, he was CEO of Goldman Sachs, spent $62 million of totally clean (I’m sure) cash buying a Senate seat, brought New Jersey to the brink of fiscal ruin in his sole term as governor, and then ended up implicated in one of the largest scandals in Wall Street history. How big? Oh, like $1.6 billion big. snip

Yup he committed a crime. He serves his time.

Popular? Really? A movie full of lies and stupid opinions based on nothing.

Where is your evidence of criminal wrong doing?

Really?

Campaign Finance - Money, Political Finance, Campaign Contributions

I know who donates, who they donate to and how many times they donate ($500.00) per donation limit.... It seems progressives BOTH democrat and republican progressives enjoy circumventing contribution maximum's.

This is purely another example of progressive communists attacking their opposition for something they do routinely....

Besides, the problem in D'Souzas case wasn't the fact of the donation but rather reimbursement of the donation..... Meanwhile progressives in Chicago throw kickbacks around like it's a Chicago pastime!

D'Souza didn't do ANYTHING wrong!

If someone does something wrong I will condemn them for their actions however this gong show - is just that - a gong show...

As far as I'm concerned D'Souza is a martyr and we will see just how true it is given his sentence.

Dinesh D'Souza has always been a douchebag, good riddance to him.

He just did an interview with Megyn Kelly and boy is it going to piss his detractors off...

He openly admitted what he did, admitted it was wrong and took 100% of the blame without laying any of it on anyone or anything. He disclosed precisely what he had done that was illegal, the reasons he did it, and never dodged or refused to answer a single question...

What he did was freely and openly admit his legal indiscretions and instead of acting like an ass by playing the victim, blaming others or pointing fingers, he was humble and conducted himself with class.... And I suspect that will really get under some people's skin around here.

For every Dinesh D'Sousa on the right, there is a corresponding Michael Moore on the left. LOL.

I really wish that Christopher Hitchens was around to see this, and berate this slimy little POS.

Complete phony baloney overly moral liar.

so you agree that Corzine should be in jail for 100 years as per how Dinesh is being treated?

are you aware Corzine has spent no time in jail?

all I see is selective moral outrage and blatent intimidation by Obama.... my vision is strong
