Town's White Police Official Calls Obama N-Word [W:301]

Just look at this website. 90% of people, consciously or otherwise, equate racism with socially meaningless bigotry and even mitigating measures.
Cant speak for others...but some of us just cant be bothered to give a **** about what an 80 year old guy said to his 30 year old squeeze about bringing black guys to his arena and we damn sure arent going to roll around in ash and writhe in agony because oh noes some people still have racist attitudes.

The only writhing has been his apologists and people pretending they don't care while posting about it.

Quick...without Googling it, tell me what town in New Hampshire this occurred in.

Very good. You showed the effect of conditioning, how most white Americans make at least some decisions based on race, and that this is often a matter not of deliberation, but of reflex. Now, did you disprove what I pointed out in reply #103? No, you did not.

Understand that while there are still so many white Americans that are racist, most white Americans are trying their level best to not be racist. Will we as a whole become "not racist" in this generation? Of course not. But with each generation, we will become less and less racist. It takes more time and patience than you and I will have in our lifetimes, but that time will come. Have faith, and do not hate.

Overall, most white Americans - most AMERICANS - are trying their level best to not be racist, to correct their behavior. Likely none of them will be 100% successful...but the important thing is not the 100% success, but the earnest effort to reach that point.

Again, guy, you need to learn not to hate, learn not to make sweeping judgments of others based on their race (because you certainly did just that) - because when you do, in the eyes of racists you're only justifying the hatred they have of you. You have to be better and rise above. When you return spite for spite, all they'll give you in return is spite - it's the same reason why someone who wants to take revenge on another man should dig two graves. But if you return spite with dignity and courtesy and kindness, many of them will still hate you for what you are...but some will see the spiteful image of their fellows and compare it to what they see in you, and they will change their ways. If you want to diminish racism by others, that is how to do so.

No, modern racism isn't about hate. That's the point. If you're going to mock something, then at least understand it before you do.

Well, not hate alone.

Racism has gotten much more sophisticated today. The N word has been replaced with code words.

Oh NOes! Not the "code words" trip.

While this may be the case in some instances.... its also an excuse to just claim someone is racist because you don't like them and use this "code words" as a cheap explanation.

I mean think about it, the accuser can turn anyone into a racist by keying in on any word someone uses and claim it is a "code word"..

For example...

"You People" turns into "Black People" instead of its actually meaning which is more like "the group of people I happen to be talking to at the time".

And they will milk it for days on their live show. The owner of a produce store that I shopped at once told me he does not like black americans or Mexicans as in his view, they are all "retarded", "violent" and "let their children run wild"

I guess I could turn him into CNN. But wait, he is not a white and presumably christian guy with a bad attitude that can by hyped and then hyped again. Rather he is muslim of Pakistani background. Thus, CNN would have no interest in the "news".

does your green grocer also have a mgmt position with the local police dept?

Please expand on that...because I have been called a racist in here, who am I oppressing? And how?

Why am I responsible for them? Are you a white racial bigot?

He probably just wants to run for congress.

His name would have to be Byrd to win. Oh wait, that's probably a different party than his. ;)

I spend a lot of time in a country where I am often the only White guy around and have sometimes had people be rude to me because I'm foreign. On the other hand I've had far more people go out of their way to make me feel comfortable, and they are in the huge majority. What may come as a surprise to many Americans is that every country in the world has a problem with the culture, color, religion or habits of their neighbors, to greater or lesser degrees. And that's just as true in Africa among Africans, Arabs among Arabs, Hispanics among Hispanics, and so on.

Much of this 'racism' thing is just an exaggerated 'war on women' strategy that only serves to divide people in order to advance leftist political parties.

1. Why would I try to disprove an argument you've made when I have no interest in changing your opinion?

2. Why would you look for me to disprove an argument that was a red herring? I never made a claim about what why people are "trying to do". I said the vast majority of white Americans are racist. They are.

3. Remember, I did not provide those references before you asked because I didn't think you would respond education. That you replied to my post so quickly and concluded from the references that "most white Americans make at least some decisions based on race" proves that you, indeed do not respond to education. Hopefully, you will read those links in depth in the future for your own sake. You can start with this one as it's an easy read : http://www33.homepage.villanova.edu/edward.fierros/pdf/bonilla~silva~because.pdf.

4. I also wanted to note your hypocrisy in criticizing me for not providing references for my statements while you have yet to provide a single reference in support of your claim that "most white Americans are trying to not be racist." For the record, I'm not interested in one since I already know it doesn't exist. I just wanted to point out that the claim your so invested in is a myth you've constructed in your head based in far less actual research than the facts about white Americans you take exception to.

I don't need your advice. I'm doing pretty well, but I'm glad that a good white progressive like you is taking his time to teach me how deal with racism that he's perpetuating, especially since his advice amounts to "be nice to white people." LOL, give me a break.

Why am I responsible for them? Are you a white racial bigot?

I don't think I am, but you threw out a blanket term, and I am only asking that you further define what constitutes "oppression" in the modern world so that I may know.

Actually this police commissioner is a god's gift to a defense attorney for any black person charged with crime in that city.

No, he is just a grocer with a bad attitude.

At the same time, I wonder how much managing an 82 year old man does with the police force? Even allowing for the fact that the man has some sort of function with a police department, the totality of the circumstances should suggest that the story is not national level news worthy:

-82 year old individual
-single time usage (at least what is documented)
-used in a private conversation with one other individual and over heard by a third.

Now, the story is news worthy in the paper of what ever small town in New Hampshire the guy is from. At the end of the day, something is being hyped that is simply not news worthy at the national level.

Hence, the lack of coverage

You left out the part where his position in the police force makes them vulnerable to a lawsuit from any black person who has been arrested and who wants to accuse the police force of discrimination.

Very true, which is why it should be covered in the local paper so that local citizens can make a decision as to whether he should be forced out. I personally would want him forced out as police officials are "always on duty" and cant present an image of being biased.

It's not like this is front page news and being discussed on all the cable news shows.

I think you're being overly dramatic here. You're talking about a media that frequently swoons over stories about Miley Cyrus and shark attacks

I think CNN did carry it on its national web page for a couple of days. At least the Miley Cyrus stuff is usually in the "entertainment" section. As for talk show fodder, I bet MSNBC is looking at it closely.

Yeah, no.

I don't think because the Commissioner (who typically sits behind a desk and doesn't make arrests) is a known racist that an offender, arrested by a patrol officer is going to somehow magically get his charges dismissed..
