Town's White Police Official Calls Obama N-Word [W:301]

It's this notion that you're racist and don't even know it. It's a way to accuse basically everybody of racism. They're the types that see racism in a talking Hallmark card that mentions black holes.

Bingo. It is annoying victim/social justice crap that just continues to be a barrier to society actually meeting the ideal of Dr King's I have a dream speech.

When I was a wee lad I asked my mother why there are black people and brown people. Her answer, stuck with me.
"Before everyone is born, God puts them in a toaster oven and toasts them just right for them."

Sure, its childish simplicity, but that shaped my view of people as individuals who happen to be.... vs black people white people etc etc. The overt racism paranoia bull**** just gets old right fast.

You know shrubnose, I wonder why and how. Why people like this haven't been found out about long ago before they're placed into positions of trust, and how they've gotten through their whole lifetimes being the way they are and never changing their feelings or opinions about other people.

I have to admit, I've never known a person who has held similar beliefs as this guy, that ever changed. I wonder if people ever do?

Senator Robert Byrd claimed he did, in fact, change. Did he? Only he knows, and he's not talking anymore. I suspect that any such deeply held hatred is difficult to over come. We should all hope that Byrd did in fact over come it if for no other reason than it would demonstrate a personal triumph against the odds stacked deep in his heart.

Define: "internalised racism"

A term used to generalise upon a group of people their motivation for making jokes at expense of their own group. It wouldn't be politically expedient to consider that your Nigerian friend is an individual and tells jokes for his own reasons.

That said, the kind of racism demonstrated by stories like this is not the type of racism that concerns me. Such overt racism is mostly a relic of the past and it's literally dying out. What concerns me is the pervasive form of racism in our society that is more covert, or subtle. I'm talking about the type of racism expressed by the vast majority of white Americans where they tell denigrating racist jokes in one breath and then claim to be colorblind in the next.

very broad brushed..
and besides.. black people never think racist things.. ever.. never a joke or slur.
i should be perfectly safe driving through Detroit's, Chicago's, New Orleans' (or any urban setting's) "hoods" at night anytime right?

You have to be kidding me....

THIS is what constitutes "Breaking" News to be run by one of the biggest media outlets in the country?

I love how many white people say stuff like this as if they would ever even consider socializing with the people in those neighborhoods anyway.

What the hell is the retirement age in New Hampshire anyway?

It seems it is always a thin line here between being overly politically correct and correctly calling a racist a racist.

In this situation though as a acting member of the police dept you are held to a higher account than the general public. If you don't like that then you need to remove yourself from the police dept, simple.

White people hate all non-white people. You see it in our eyes, you hear it in the tone we take. We only tolerate you less subhumans because we need people to mow our lawns and do our laundry.

/smh

Are you really so sensitive about racism that when a racist is called a racist, you somehow have to make it about you?

That's interesting. I wonder why that is.

One of the purposes of laws is to help insure against someone being able to just do as they please, when in a powerful position. This guy's personal opinions don't matter. His actions do. If he is acting outside the law, then that is a problem. He must uphold the law or he is subject to his own legal problems.

True, unless he generates bad press. Bad press can bring down all sorts of consequences.

Tell us more about how this police commissioner isn't a racist.

When you start calling out all racism not just old guys I'll take you seriously.

He is responding to this:

Stories like this just make me laugh because of how absurd the racists are. Even so, it's unfortunate that this guy is a Police Commissioner considering that the amount of power he has probably means that a fair amount of black people have been held back from jobs and promotions because of him. There's probably also been a fair amount of racism in police activity in his area due to him as well. That is the saddest part of this.

He can tell we are all racist based on our skin color, dontcha know....

There's a claim he sent emails to his deputies too, and nobody saw or heard anything. I wonder if he sent those emails while he and his deputies were on duty? That could be a legal problem for him, and his deputies.

What did he do which was illegal?

What did he do which was illegal?

We don't know yet.

Is or would it be illegal for a public official who is being paid by taxpayer money to use racial slurs in communications sent to deputies while on duty? Was he on duty and were his deputies on duty when it occurred? we don't know.

Are you serious? Really? Illegal to use racial slurs while on duty? Wow. Just wow.

I know it's sleazy, and it's scumbag behavior, but illegal? :lamo

Racism has gotten much more sophisticated today. The N word has been replaced with code words.
