That's nonsense after he delayed federal authority via FEMA authorization. He watched buses float away because of lacking drivers, just to try to "handle it himself" and keep Bush out. When he couldn't handle it, and it was too late, he and the governor authorized FEMA jurisdiction.

His calling on Bush to 'get moving' was a pathetic attempt to cover his ass. He had personally delayed FEMA jurisdiction thinking he could handle it with state resources, to spite Bush. And that backfired on him when he called FEMA (fed juris, Bush) in when it was too late.

Only ignorance of what politically lead to the disaster can give any credence whatsoever to Nagin's attempt to blame Bush for what was, in fact, Nagin's incompetence. Instead of taking his hurricane lessons from Florida he took them from partisan politics, and that's what caused the mess. He is to blame; there is no historical doubt.

I'm saying he had the nerve to do it while he was to blame, in attempt to shift blame, with his reasons being political. He delayed FEMA because of politics and he blamed Bush because of politics. Nagin was a fraud (like most politicians); that's why things didn't go well for him.

If you say so. I don't know what happened other than he got on TV telling Bush to get off his ass. Next thing I know he's headed to prison.

My point is that, it's totally believable that a white congressman would call Obama a tar baby. But I would be totally shocked if a black congressman called Bush a cracker.

The real racists are those who pander to race - who see individuals - not as who they are but their skin tone or sexual orientation or whatever "race, religion, sexuality, creed" is trendy with the progressive movement presently...

Hell, progressives have black friends for no other reason than the fact they're black. If they were the same person and white these trendy progressives wouldn't give them the time of day -- hell they would probably bully the **** out of him/her...... That's why there is always a "token" black guy in a group of progressives or a "token" homosexual within a group of progressives..... It's so disgusting and artificial -- It angers me. It goes so far beyond that - the people of NOLA (and the entire Gulf Coast) were given a weeks notice to evacuate and they were told if they didn't they would be in serious trouble.... They didn't listen. I remember thinking at the time "these people are epic idiots" so what if the roads a blocked - you walk your ass to save your life and your families lives, but no - many stayed at ground zero then acted like victims (some of which were - like those who were disabled)..... Then of course despite the warnings and all the buses going into NOLA few got on them and decided to stay -- then they blame Bush as if he had ANYTHING to do with it.

What didn't these people understand about: "if you don't evacuate you will die?"

Oh, and of course they blamed the levy on Bush as well like he built the ****ing thing or even was president when the damn thing was built. Obviously the Army Core of Engineers is alien to the ignorant - they don't know what the hell that is...

The best part about this whole NOLA Katrina nonsense is the fact that people were stealing everything they could. I saw a guy on TV holding an LCD flat screen TV over his head while he was walking though a swamp of bodies...... Really? the first thing on your survival list is a fricking flat screen TV???

Note to the idiots the CHOOSE to go though something like this again - TV's and video games are the last thing you need in a life or death situation such as Katrina.

While working on an essay today, and I ran across something that seems to summarize what you've been trying to say:

I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season." Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.

That is from, as I'm sure you know already, MLK's "Letter from a Birmingham Jail". At first glance it seems to echo your disgust with me, as if I am a shining example of that same white moderate to which MLK referred. But the great difference in between MLK's words and your own is that he did not allow spite to creep into his speech - you do. He was welcoming to all who did not hate him, and so many more could listen to him, stand by him, and support him. Your words are not welcoming - they're spiteful. You place yourself in the seat of judgment as MLK never would have. You lump even those whites who stand most strongly against racism into the same toxic mindset inhabited by white racists and those who enable white racism, and by doing so make yourself seem just as prejudiced towards whites as so many whites are towards blacks.

In other words, your spite isn't helping - it's enabling the real racists, the ones (even here on DP) who will read your words and say, "See, they're just as racist as we are!"

I'm not telling you to "be nice to white people". I'm telling you that you need to learn that you can draw more flies with honey than with vinegar - the greatest leaders lift up, rather than tear down. Foisting your spite, hurt, and rage on other people might make you feel better, but in the long run they're helping no one, not you, not anyone.
