Kidnapped Nigerian Girls

Oh, and you're sure of that?

I'm sure of the usage in language, and I've read the op. This thread is about kidnapped Nigerian school girls.

Ah. So you are sure that when Abu Bakr Shekau states that he intends to sell the girls, and when and if he indicates that he is willing to trade the girls back to the Nigerian government, either for money, released fighters, or some combination thereof, that he is lying, and does not intend to profit financially?

Girls are at risk all over the world, as is trafficking in women. But what does this broad generalization have to do with the subject at hand?

1. The argument was made that this kind of thing doesn't happen all over the world, more specifically, that it doesn't happen here in the US because oh we would be so upset we would really do something about it.

2. It demonstrates that we are not actually (as a country) interested in saving the girls for their own sake. We are interested in it because it's the latest fad on social and now conventional media.

The problem is...as the Joker would say...one or two girls here and there across the US being kidnapped and sold into slavery on an ongoing basis is, well, part of the plan. It's statistically acceptable. 200 kids all at once? Not part of the plan. Not statistically acceptable.

Name an event (with a link) similar occurring in the US, where a terrorist organization blatantly storms a school and steals almost 300 girls and takes them into the jungle somewhere, while threatening to kill them and sell them into slavery, etc.

Can of worms opened. I think almost all religious leaders have selfish interests...financial ones top the list.

Ah. So it is the chronological proximity that is the problem? Had this occurred over, say, a monthlog period it would be no big deal?

No, you aren't coming up with anything specific to discuss. You are just babbling about random kidnappings in the US. THIS thread isn't about that. Go start one about random kidnappings in the US. THIS thread is about a specific incident that I wanted to talk about, which YOU keep trying to derail.

Literally you were the one that brought up the subject of kidnappings in the US.

No, I kept it to the topic. You are insisting that that aspect of the topic cannot be discussed because somehow to point out that this is a media-driven phenomena rather than an actual response that we consistently have messes up the zeitgeist.

No I wasn't. That was Muhammed. No you haven't. I've asked you to address the topic several times, and you keep talking about kidnappings in the US.

We just need to stay out of the Dark Continent..........let them rape and kill themselves into extinction instead of giving them endless aid in the hopes that they will improve their lives........

They survived millenniums without any foreign aid or involvement whatsoever.

You are correct on that - you merely responded in kind, and then later insisted that no one else do so.

No you haven't.

Yes I have. Specifically I have been pointing out that our response to this situation is driven by first social and then common media rather than any kind of desire to oppose or end such occurrences themselves, and demonstrating the truth of that claim by showing how we do not do so even in situations that call for action even more strongly.

So... not so sure?

It's still apples to oranges. Sure both are fruits, but one has a peel whereas the other does not. I'll let you guess which is the apple and who is the orange. That was a clue ;)

You believe that kidnapping girls in order to sell them is apples to the kidnapping girls in order to sell them which is oranges?

That's right. I made a side comment to another poster, and you have picked it up and taken off with it. Now, would appreciate it if you would either discuss the Nigerian girls, or leave the thread. :)

I have been discussing the capture of the Nigerian girls, and our response to it. Not sure why you got obsessed with the idea that only certain aspects of that event can be discussed, or enamored with the idea that you had the ability to control a thread.

No, you've really done nothing but be kind of annoying. :)

 whatever. If you lack any response, that's your issue, not mine.

I asked you straight up if you thought we should or should not go in and offer our assistance, and you STILL have not answered, instead preferring to focus on . . . whatever it is you've been talking about all this time.

I asked you straight up if you thought we should or should not go in and offer our assistance

I've been pretty clear for some time now that I think we should. I just also think we should be doing all those other things as well.

Worth noting - I also don't think we would be successful in trying to get back the girls. i think we should offer assistance in hunting down Boko Haram and associates.

Oranges include the layer of religion, which I call the peel.

F that. I'd say drone the whole sect up to allah.
