Kidnapped Nigerian Girls

....how many girls in the U.S., today, do you think are trafficked for sex-slavery?

Good God, don't try to compare what happened over there, with terrorists killing people and storming a school, kidnapping close to 300 girls, to anything that goes on here. Yes, of course, there are going to be kidnappings. There is only SO much one can do to prevent that. Most of the time, American girls who are sold into slavery are runaways.

Aren't there groups, as well as police, who already try to rescue these girls? I doubt anyone is going to forget about American girls while trying to do something about the plight of young women elsewhere.

Yes, there are groups that look for missing people, as well as the police. It's not anything like Nigeria. Why some people have to try to make ridiculous comparisons, I don't know.

His comparison and deflection might have something to do with the nom de plume he has chosen.

You mean the most vulnerable people in our society? When we consider government resource allocation to fight the problem, why should these Nigerian girls take precedence over American girls?

Isn't that a disservice to American taxpayers?

Um... why wouldn't we compare? Both involve the capturing of young girls in order to sell them into slavery. That's pretty much a valid comparison right there, with the exception that it happens more here in the U.S. than has happened in this particular instance in Nigeria.

 sure, if you like. But they do get away with it and they are are hardly hunted down like dogs. More like the efforts against them are underfunded, way undermanned, and receive little political support because nobody wants to talk about the fact that it happens here, too. We value our happy ignorance, we Americans. Remember how we started this by talking about how Americans were kept somewhat ignorant by a media complicit in telling us what we wanted to believe about the world?

The responsibility of looking after vulnerable women usually concerns local government (unless state lines are crossed) whereas what's happening to women in the Muslim world would involve the Federal government. Of course, to be fair, there are other backward nations which are not Islamic where women and girls are abused also.

Howso? Why is it the US government's responsibility? Please explain your reasoning.

And BTW, in the human trafficking trade in the USA state lines are very often crossed. It's standard practice for obvious reasons.

It is the responsibility of all humanity to respect human rights, and that includes the rights of women. We know that genocides have taken place several times in human history, for religious or political motives, and the American government has, in recent memory, been in the forefront of spreading and encouraging human rights.

What's happening in Nigeria with these girls (mostly Christian)at the hands of fanatical Muslims is no different that what happened in Afghanistan, Indonesia, Egypt, the Sudan and so forth. It's just that this time the world is finally paying some attention.

Perhaps this latest atrocity will bring enough coverage and outrage for people to speak up against the ignorance in Islam and all that it stands for in its war against women, education and other religions. I suppose you must feel the same way.

Well that's my point. We're not talking about a deployment of a few five man teams. We're talking about a significant commitment.

A battalion (+)

These people aren't Muslim any more than the KKK was Christian.

I'm aware of human trafficking, but that is not what this thread is about. I started this thread out of concern for the Nigerian girls. It doesn't mean I'm not concerned about others, but this just happens to be taking precedence right now because of the brazen attack, the killings, and the fact that it is terror related.

I've seen plenty of things about kidnappings on the news, also about busts on sex slave/pedophilia rings and the like. Sometimes they make the news and sometimes not. I don't know how the MSM goes about making such decisions, but that isn't what the thread is about. It's about the girls from Nigeria who may or may not even be alive right now. I read that the US is sending (or has sent) manned flights to search for the girls.

I suppose you could look at it like that. I prefer to look at it as helping to try to rescue some innocent little girls and reuniting them with their families who must be going nuts right about now.

I do wish they would put more money and manpower into looking for kidnapped children here in the US too though.

....that makes no sense. You are upset that people are being kidnapped and trafficked..... but you're not here to talk about people being kidnapped and trafficked?

I think you need to look at the thread title again.

YOU are the one who said:

It is not my fault that you are incorrect.

I'm not incorrect, but that's beside the point. I was responding to someone else's post.

Um yes. Thousands of girls are trafficked in the United States, and we absolutely do not hunt them down like dogs and prevent them from being able to do so. And the point was precisely about the allocation of resources between them.

Stick to the topic. Don't make me report you. :)
