Rams select Michael Sam, NFL's first openly gay player [W:282]

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

When was that? From what I saw the best he could have done was to be drafted in the fifth round. More people than not were saying sixth or seventh round, but plenty were saying he wouldn't be drafted at all.

Due to him coming out yes...

Projected 3rd-4th before that

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

Obviously it did!

What's hilarious is you act like this is some kind of insult, like you could get drafted in the NFL or some absurdity. Just admit this homo could run roughshod over 9/10 "real men" out there

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

Or he had that bad of a Combine, which he did.

Then GMs are imbeciles to pass him up over and over just because of a single bad day of running without pads and lifting weights, as opposed to 4 years of on field competition. But that's all a lie to feed attention to combine anyway. No one's draft status plummets 4 goddamn rounds cause of the combine. Not unless they're the 1st gay prospect anyway.

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

If he's great, he'll be lauded as this great GAY player, if he sucks and gets cut, I'll guarantee you some folks with say it's because he's gay.

He's already a great player, SEC defender of year. Nothing to do with his sexuality. It's only actually relevant to all those fools who think gays aren't "real men". Rest of us knew all along there have been plenty in NFL all this time

When did I suggest it's any kind of insult? Did I criticize the dude's athletic ability?

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

Analysis of players with similar stats to Collins revealed 50/50 chance he'd be picked up, and it took a year, so again you're just wrong. Just stop, we can all see your motives.

So, it's just a coincidence that he came out, when he did?

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

Why else would he come out of the closet? Because he figgered he wouldn't get picked, otherwise.

Please, he was co-defensive player of the year in the SEC. And nobody would have given, him a chance?

Just like some are saying that's the only reason he got drafted? If he wasn't drafted he would gave gotten a cheap deal from someone to fill the preseason roster.

I guess that's why he was picked so early in the draft. Oh, wait...

Maybe I should come out. Apparently it would get me somewhere.

It depends on if someone wanted to employ you for the PR value.

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

If he would have just played football and kept his personal business to himself, he would have been drafted earlier and made millions.

Don't you think that someone would have picked him earlier for the cachet? I mean, look at all Tue teams falling all over themselves to draft him and get the gay guy to make all the liberals happy. But they all waited, because they didn't want to look too eager.

There are very real questions about if he'll be able to play in the NFL. He got a flier based on his resume.

Jadaveon Clowney must be super gay. Otherwise he never would have been #1 overall

Even just one defensive star can do a ton for a team. I truly doubt his drafting had anything to do with him being openly gay. For my part, I wish him no better or worse than any other player. All that matters is his ability.

How much are they going to pay me? I don't care as long as I get paid.

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

St. Louis did Missouri a favor in sparing them the embarrassment.
However, IMHO, if he doesn't come out, he's a 3rd/4th pick coming from that program and conference.
We need to be approaching the day where people are assured of themselves enough they don't need to tell the whole world who they are .

If his ability was judged very highly, he wouldn't have been picked damn near last.

Hellifiknow! Depends on the PR value, I reckon.

Does this mean you're joining the NFL thread this year.

I notice you're from La.
Do they have a team ?

Well like it or not GM puts a lot of importance on the Combine, because a great college player does not mean a good NFL player. Might him being gay meant he went in the 7th round compared to the late 6th? Maybe. But it is not to the level which you are trying to portray it by. I also do not think that if he had not come out gay means he would not have been drafted. I think no matter what he was going to be drafted by a team, but his poor showing at Combine hurt him more than him being gay.

Then it sounds like he was drafted according to his perceived ability and his sexual orientation had nothing to do with it.

I can agree with that, although even the draft itself is no more than a crapshot usually, so i don't know why so many watch. Too many #3 overalls have failed completely while #200+ get super bowl MVP and hall of fame career. So in fact GMs don't know what they're doing.

Exception might be the Seahawks, past three years they have drafted like 9 pro bowl calibar players.

And yet Schneider hasn't sniffed GM of the year. It's a double face palm. This year's draft is testimony to his success. Ask all the tall defensive backs that got drated.

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

He's not really a very good ballplayer, the only reason he was in the news is because he is a homosexual.

This story is a big yawn.
