Rams select Michael Sam, NFL's first openly gay player [W:282]

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

it's only news because he's gay... no other reason.

So... the other draftees won't get mentioned in newspapers across the country? Not even newspapers in the states the teams are from? Not even in sports sections of the newspapers of the cities they belong to? Odd that this kind of thing wouldn't be mentioned by news agencies if the player had been straight. I mean... million dollar contracts signed by new players don't usually get mentioned. Wait... yes, yes they do. They get mentioned all the time along with other bits of their life stories that most don't care about. So nothing to see here, being gay is pretty normal. It's as regular a story as that of the player who went from rags to riches. No different than the story of players who get mentioned because they're also extremely intelligent. No different then the story of the guy who joined the military because he was a patriot. This is just another story of a perfectly normal thing.

100% correct
hence most of the titles say "first openly gay"

be very hard to have that title or story without that factor lol

its a big deal but also to be fair ALL draftess have some type of sotry about them some where . . . . did you have some type of point

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

He's not really a very good ballplayer, the only reason he was in the news is because he is a homosexual.

This story is a big yawn.

He won the SEC defensive player of the year, ffs.

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

He won the SEC defensive player of the year, ffs.

Jason White won the Heisman trophy and was not drafted.

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

Please, he was co-defensive player of the year in the SEC. And nobody would have given, him a chance?

He was also out of shape and performed poorly at the combine. TBW was a potential first pick and almost fell out of the first round. Because he did poorly in the draft run up pro days.

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

Does this mean you're joining the NFL thread this year.

I notice you're from La.
Do they have a team ?

Saints?

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

He won the SEC defensive player of the year, ffs.

So did Rolando McClain.

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

wasn't he a first round pick?

Yes, 8th overall.....a complete bust.

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

Yes, 8th overall.....a complete bust.

well he played a few years, but the point is that all draft picks are based on potential. He was a dude with issues can you explain how this is relevant to Sam?

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

it's only news because he's gay... no other reason.

It certainly is a ground breaking reason.

Sure, they were both SEC defensive players of the year.

too many , it surely is.

personally, I don't care who he's attracted to or who he has sex with.. it's completely irrelevant.

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

Yes, 8th overall.....a complete bust.

Then Sam deserves the chance to be a bust too. Of course in the 7th round, he's not a bust either way.

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

True enough, which was probably why he didn't get taken until late. I'm just saying that somebody probably figured that he warranted a chance because of what he did in college.

It is no longer irrelevant to the sports world... about time imo.

oh?.. do tell... why should the sex lives of athletes be relevant to the sport?

Congrats Mr. Sam! another hurdle over come. Nothign much needs said on this.
Like all draftees I hope you have great success on the field. Good luck!

Way to celebrate sin, Agent J. Just because somebody trashes the scriptures and engages in carnal sodomy in violation of God's law isn't a legitimate reason to make a public spectacle over it.

I wish him well as a football player but would strongly advise him to repent of his sin(s).

I am sure you will take his concern under advisement...so please help the adulterers, those that eat pork, those who work on Saturday and of course those that have pre-martial sex because those are sins to someone too. Or is your outrage selective?

There's no lengths to which you folks will go to try to justify sodomy/sin.
