Rams select Michael Sam, NFL's first openly gay player [W:282]

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

I am not going to post all the felon League's that ARE in prison at this time.
I will also not post all the upcoming felon Heisman trophy winners either.

The list grows and grows, I mean WTF your making the best wages, why cant you keep your nose clean?

kobie i am done so who cares? right?

Yes, we know you're done, you tell us every time someone mentions the league. Frankly, I don't much care.

NFL players are not arrested at a higher rate than any other similarly-aged males for anything other than weapons charges. Those are facts.

You're dead wrong. We have the fulfilled Messianic prophecies of Jesus at a rate way, way higher than chance. That's the signature of God.

Just slightly higher than tarot card readers.

More and more, huh? Three of them in 15 years (Rae Carruth, Ray Lewis, Aaron Hernandez), charges were dismissed for one of them because he didn't actually kill anybody. So really two. Hardly an epidemic.

"More and more" my ass.

Moderator's Warning:
Notice the topic of the thread? It's about the Rams selecting Michael Sam. It is NOT about how many NFL players have been felons, NOR is it about whether or not Jesus is the Messiah. If any of those things... or anything other than the thread topic is discussed, consequences will be given.

Sorry, I think I made a wrong turn. I was looking for a thread about Michael Sam.

What? Looking for Michael Sam? Sorry, I didn't realize that's what you wanted. In the other thread you said you wanted Shakira.

Because its the felons league

Well, there are some there, no doubt about it.

On the other hand Oliver North is a felon. Do you have a problem with him?

This I know to be untrue. Jesus didn't meet the minimal level of messianic accuracy and that is why like so many others his messiahship was rejected by the vast majority of Jews.

show me evidence that that the invisible pink unicorn doesn't exist and steal my socks.

Show me evidence that the pink unicorn went to the barnyard looking for Mr Ed.

Oops! Didn't see that. Sorry!!!!

This thread is about Michael Sam. I suggest you get back on topic.

hmmmmm so you took it off topic and got spanked and now you don't want to talk about your false argument. Fine I am happy.

Michael Sam is no different than any other potential NFL player except we live in a world that has people who do not accept who God made him attracted to and so he is a interesting story for being the first openly gay player drafted in the most popular sport in the country. Sam will likely make the team as a special teams guy or get cut and wind up in Canada. Sam has skills but they are limited. He was drafted about where a lot of people thought he would be and yes his stock dropped in the seemingly 2 and a half years since the end of the college football season and I think a few teams would never draft him but he has a chance and we can see what he does with it.

First of all, I'm not the one who started that tangent. Next of all, I failed to see how I got spanked. You surely didn't, and are simply not capable of doing so. And I can prove that if you want to start another thread so we can pursue the issue at length. Lastly, I had not seen the Mod's warning, so that's why I said get on topic.

Now with regards to Michael Sam, God didn't make him be attracted to anything. He got what he wanted. But I agree, it's an interesting story, especially given the notions of the type of masculinity that has been associated with football.

A lineman for the Dolphins (seriously, you can't make this up) tweeted that drafting Sam was "horrible", resulting in a fine and being excused from team duties. It really spits inthe face of fools who think the NFL is "ready". A scrub punter for a crap team like the Vikings has positive speech, and he's all over ESPN. This guy says something negative, and he gets fined. Proof that a lot of players are not good with this, but don't have the wallet to say so. Edit: it may have been a safety, not a D-lineman.

You notice that the NFL and NBA both came out with new rules about what guys could call each other in the heat of the game. Fag, Faggot, homo all made the list of what guys can call each other.
All in prep for the influx of "out" players.

Yea, Lewis is a real stand up guy. Did a year in prison instead of break the gang code. Scum bag is what Lewis is.

Re: http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-michael-sam-nfl-draft-20140511-s

I think the NFL should raise the standards or at least require they actually graduated from college with a 3. minimum GPA and earned a real BA or BS not in ethnic studies or home economics and have a clean criminal record and no gang affiliations or gang tats.

Most NFL players during the Vince Lombardi era and before would have met those minimum standards.

So, you want to make standards for the NFL harder than for any other profession, and using standards (academic achievement) that have little to nothing to do with success in the profession. Why not require engineers to run a sub 5 40, or at least be able to do 100 pushups?

Of course, being gay is a choice, and so it's teh gays who don't accept that god made them attracted to the women. Or that's what I'm told.

I'm glad Sam got drafted - gay athletes being non-news require at least one openly gay man in the NFL. And it's good to see even some who aren't natural defenders of homosexuals are (mostly) trying to insist that there is no story here. The stories I've read had to look hard to find individuals (outside of random tweeters/twitterers) opposed to a gay man in the NFL. We're making progress I think.

I thought Sam hurt his cause greatly on Saturday.

Bursting into tears is fine. And being there with his boyfriend was OK, too. We've seen these scenes with family, friends, and significant others play out over and over. I thought the goal was for this to be accepted like any other player being drafted, and it easily could have been, but unfortunately, it wasn't.

No, Sam and his main squeeze had to gay it up for the cameras in flamboyant style, complete with a marriage-ready face cake-smush and sloppy mug-down for all the cameras to flash across America. Couldn't just celebrate being drafted like a typical football player. Thankfully, they cut the cameras before Sam bent Blondie over the table for a quickie.

If only the gay community would settle for just being gay. Nobody really cares or has a problem with that. We really don't. But it's stupid to "celebrate" that a man prefers sex with men instead of women, as if this requires some sort of aptitude or higher learning achievement. So he really likes screwing guys. Congratulations, I guess? This incessant need to be on stage waterboarding the country with gaydom 24/7 is borderline psychotic.

Bottom line is, this "acceptance" that seems so important has already been reached. Nobody cares that much. However, it's still damn awkward and funny, and it always will be. Jokes and laughs were shared across the U.S. Gay people are funny, unless you have a 6-year-old watching that you really weren't ready to have that conversation with.

If you want gay to be normal, then act normal about it. Be men, not staged actors in a bad Lifetime movie.

A still large part of the country really DOES have a problem with being gay. Bryan Fischer must speak for someone, and he has equated being gay with the Hitler SS, muses that we should treat homosexuals like drug addicts, which means they convert or go to jail, there are evangelicals assisting foreign countries in passing legislation that makes being gay a crime punishable with jail time, and more. Whenever gay marriage is a topic, you'll hear comparisons of them to pedophiles, or people who like having sex with animals. I could go on, but the point is bigotry is still real and still a big and accepted attitude among large swaths of America. I live where being a anti-gay bigot is a good thing when you run for office.

We have come a long way.
