Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says[W:46]

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

Only if you ignore the experts, the evidence, and the science.

Here are experts, evidence and science... YOU choose to ignore. But Libs tend to be experts... at denying the truth. It's the only way you can remain a Lib.

A litany of experts on science and climate, and your response is pretty much what I anticipated for someone intellectually bankrupt.

Ignorance is the Lib's strong point. Without it, they just might become upstanding, responsible citizens.

Not even close.

Though I do see right-wing propaganda sites spreading the age old "common sense" idea of "the climate is always changing and climate scientists just don't get it", this is the silliest notion that I see crop up over and over and over. Yes of course the climate is always changing, they take that into account of course. It would be like asking an engineer if they have taken load into account while building a bridge.

When will people learn that things are not the way they think they are. You have to carefully study an issue to understand the true nature of it. It would be like if I went up to a construction site and decided I know how things should probably be done just by using common sense. I might get some stuff right but I would end up being very, very wrong about many things, disastrously. Why do people think they understand climate and science just because?

This is nothing more than an appeal to authority. Don't try to bull**** people and mystify science. The science is easily understood by those who try.

You have a far too high opinion of human intelligence.

We both know that there are many people on this forum who are, for whatever reason, incapable of understanding very basic concepts in physics.

So I'm of the opinion that we should invest in research into solar power and stuff but not panic and build wind farms that don't really work. I think we have lots of time to deploy new technologies which we don't actually have at present. Let's wait 'till 2030 before we decide what we need to do about it.

As I said, a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing. It allows people to think they know enough.

Clearly you have avoided this problem almost entirely.

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

Its not just sea levels that are the only concern. Current floews are a major concern too.

Could you try to find any scientific paper which implies that the North Atlantic drift (There is no other possible one which you are almost talking about) is anything other than wind driven.

I'll give you a clue; you won't.

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

There is no consensus. None.

The IPCC has been proven to be dishonest.
East Anglia emails show what type of "scientists" we are dealing with. Dishonest and thug-like in their attempts to halt science. Like the following...

From: Phil Jones. To: Many. Nov 16, 1999
"I've just completed Mike's Nature [the science journal] trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie, from 1981 onwards) and from 1961 for Keith's to hide the decline."

Critics cite this as evidence that data was manipulated to mask the fact that global temperatures are falling. Prof Jones claims the meaning of "trick" has been misinterpreted

From Phil Jones To: Michael Mann (Pennsylvania State University). July 8, 2004
"I can't see either of these papers being in the next IPCC report. Kevin and I will keep them out somehow — even if we have to redefine what the peer-review literature is!"

Ignorance is the foundation of Liberalism.

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

I really haven’t paid all that much attention to this climate change debate, I hear about this or that and move on with my daily life. Why worry, I can control the weather. Then I hear my electric bill will be going up because of new regulations on coal, that makes me mad. The price of gas has been going up since spring with this dumb summer blend and all those stupid additives, that makes me mad. Stop with all this stupid stuff on cars, your dumb regulations have me paying $25,000.00 for a car that should only cost me $20.000.00. Your costing me money. You want to do something about climate change, fine, you do it. Only leave my wallet alone!

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

The error in this thinking is as you state a greenhouse gas.
Read above, it is not linear.
I can go with the IPCC's number of 1.2 C for each doubling.
Not linear.

The thought that you can somehow control the environment to this extent is amazing.

here's a question, what happens if the sun tosses out a few extra micro bursts every day? Does it matter how much C02 is in the atmosphere?
Or if it doesn't put out as much energy for whatever reason? Does the CO2 somehow compensate for this?

100 years ago how was the sun's energy output measured? If you can't answer this question, then there is NO way you can calculate the CO2's effect.

How do you measure direct CO2 temperatutre increases? HOW DOES CO2 RAISE THE TEMPERATURE? It's no some magical exothermic reaction in the atmosphere. It's a blanket. ALL THE HEAT/ENERGY COMES FROM THE SUN!
.
Way to misread something.
First I am not arguing in support of AGW, the extreme predictions are ridiculous.
By placing the lower end of the prediction within the natural curve, they will likely hit their target.
(this really is like you cannot fall off the floor.)
I am trying to add some Science to the discussion, By stipulating to the IPCC's
direct response of CO2 of 1.2 C for each doubling, I am showing how the upper ranges of the predictions
and not plausible even with their own numbers.
FYI, a 1.2 C for each doubling is not a linear response, but about a 4 log decaying response.
140 to 280 1.2 c
280 to 560 1.2 c
560 to 1120 1.2 c... ect

You are correct in that CO2 cannot add energy, it can slow down it's departure.
Spontaneous decay of an excited CO2 molecule to ground state can be up to 50 ms.
The departing decay photons, are completely random, and some go back to earth.
I don't think we understand how the greenhouse gas process works, but the Physics
supports the observations.
Those observations are by no means alarming.

And sadly this is what it is all about...Aside from the highly technical discussions that talk of 'excited molecules' and 'molecular attachment', what we have in the end is government controlling business, and massive redistribution through hidden taxation schemes that would, should land these scum bags in jail...So far all they are succeeding at is destroying this country.

We have often heard the liberals say, "never let a crisis go to waste".
We should also not let the liberal artificial AGW crisis go to waste.
In the US we do not manufacturer much any more, but that is how wealth is created.
At some point oil will become more difficult and expensive to extract.
By building out new Nuclear and solar capacity now, The US can be an exporter of
man made hydrocarbon fuels for the next several hundred years.
The added bonus, is we can sell it to the concerned world as carbon neutral.
There is no reason the political right cannot take advantage of a fake crisis generated by the Left.

Re: Climate change is here and action needed now, new White House report says

There is a theory, a credible one, which says that, after so much global warming, more clouds are in the sky, reflecting more of the sun's light back into space, thus tapering the effects of global warming. The theory is credible, but also supports the weather changing drastically all around the world, which we are seeing. According to this theory, while natural forces may self-correct what man does to the Earth, there is still going to be hell to pay. This theory may account for the sudden temporary growing of ice caps, after shrinking for many years. Whether this temporary growing of the ice caps becomes permanent is still unknown, but the radical shifts in both weather and climate all over the world are going to become even more radical. So, while global warming is backed by all the scientific evidence, the term "climate change" is more appropriate.

Even the IPCC report agrees there has been no global warming recently. In fact, there has been none for the past 15 years.

What is this supposed to prove? There was a cooling trend but it was also warmer than today.

Species can often adapt to a changing climate, however the speed of the climate shift is very important. If the shift is too fast species will go extinct before they are able to cope with the changes. Species that are unsuitable for the changing climate will disappear and species that are better equipped will flourish and life will go on. Rapid changes in climate cause mass extinctions that upsets the balance of the ecosystems. Humans are dependent on all kinds of life throughout the world, all life on Earth is interconnected, if it is disrupted it will cause much stress in forms of food shortages for those that are most vulnerable around the world.

Thinking that this will be a sudden climate shift is the problem. But I agree humans are more prepared for any sort of change than they would have been in the past.

No amount of taxation or change from us will prevent what the Earth and the universe have in mind.

The current thinking is that the climate is changing too fast right now, however life is pretty tenacious so we'll have to see.

How a Few Species Are Hacking Climate Change

We can work to slow the emission of carbon into the air decreasing the potential future effects of climate change right now. However we have to switch to alternative forms of energy for this to be feasible. It's all possible without undue burden, we just have to want to do it and put in the effort.

You can't control the weather but Obama, Gore and a whole gaggle of Leftists think they can.

There is NO leaving you alone when it comes to climate change. THAT is the whole evil point behind it. Greater control of government over THE INDIVIDUAL.

What? Are you telling me that raising CAFE standards, destroying our energy business, and raising taxes will not change the course of the Earth and Universe??? What kind of insanity is this??? Sir, you are truly a denier!

No, no, there will be a utopia if we can get these things done, it is just a coincidence that it also increases the size and power of government, takes liberty and freedom from the people, and concentrates power in the hands of liberal politicians.

Its even cheaper if you just ration electricity, fuel, and population.
