Supreme Court ruling favors prayer at council meeting [W:93:217]

Re: Supreme Court ruling favors prayer at council meeting

Was anyone harmed when Bill got his BJ? How about we start off each council meeting with group sex?

Try to stay on topic. I'm sure giving Bill Clinton a BJ is high on your list of fantasies, but it's not really what we're talking about here.

Re: Supreme Court ruling favors prayer at council meeting

You seem to have confused realism with hate. Simply put, a city council meeting is not the place to be catering to delusions. Church is there for that.

Why do so many religious people insist on imposing their nonsense on the rest of us?

sounds like you wish for your beliefs to be forced down the throats of others. I dont think anyone at these meetings is forced to take part in any prayer. They just ask that while the members ,whom I assume are the majority of the people there, who choose to take part are taking part that people be respectful. There seems to be a blurred line with people like you who just relentlessly attack religion. Noone should be forced to beleive any faith, but they shouldn't be forced to hide it from you over-sensitive pansies either who are "offended" if someone prays in your presence.

His wife probably didn't care--she's still with him, correct? And, if he was asked about it, he wouldn't have had to parse the definition of "is".

Church is for prayer; City council meeting not so much.

SCOTUS has a right wing bias regarding "Free speech", as is evidenced by this.

Notice how the liberals are...well, more liberal in their interpretation of Free Speech.

It's no different than someone dropping to their knees to blow out a prayer.

Where in the Constitution are blowjobs a protected right?

Where in the Constitution are blowjobs a protected right?

as madonna sings:

When you call my name it's like a little prayer
I'm down on my knees, I wanna take you there
In the midnight hour I can feel your power
Just like a prayer you know I'll take you there

Another one with no answer. Thanks

blowjob jokes are always an answer!

Re: Supreme Court ruling favors prayer at council meeting

It's a simple question.

I understand that. You are also attempting to make a point, what is your point?

From some of the posts here it seems that people are pretty outraged by this ruling, so to put things in perspective I'd like to know if anyone has ever been harmed by a prayer said before a meeting.

We need an amendment

Re: Supreme Court ruling favors prayer at council meeting

Exercising unbridled free speech during a city council meeting is banned. Correct? No one can just start talking without first getting approval, and they are quickly shut down if they say inappropriate things: profanity, hate, insane ramblings, etc.

Prayer is allowed only because the majority of the members on the board allows it. And, if someone objects, that fact could be used against them in the next council election, which when considering that at least 70% of the Americans living in the small towns self-identify as Christian is a distinct possibility.

That's tyranny of the Majority in action.

Why? Define "harm".

Re: Supreme Court ruling favors prayer at council meeting

So if there was a Satanic Priest at a public meeting and the Satanist wanted equal time to do a Satanic prayer. Would that be okay?

Re: Supreme Court ruling favors prayer at council meeting

I support the ruling, but I still think it's sad to see 5-4 rulings with the interpretation of the Constitution and policies impacting the entire nation having such a close split, there needs to be a higher form of checks and balances with the SCOTUS. A change in 1 member can essentially change what constitutes law and justice since they largely rule in line with political beliefs and not necessarily word of law (at least when it comes to more high profile cases).

Re: Supreme Court ruling favors prayer at council meeting

I think it's interesting how all three Jews voted against this but 5/6 Roman Catholics favored this.
