NEW YORK (AP) -- The first openly gay Episcopal bishop, who became a symbol for gay rights far beyond the church while deeply dividing the world's Anglicans, plans to divorce his husband.

Bishop Gene Robinson announced the end of his marriage to Mark Andrew in an email sent to the Diocese of New Hampshire, where he served for nine years before retiring in 2012.

Robinson would not disclose details about the end of their 25-year relationship but wrote Sunday in The Daily Beast he owed a debt to Andrew "for standing by me through the challenges of the last decade."

"It is at least a small comfort to me, as a gay rights and marriage equality advocate, to know that like any marriage, gay and lesbian couples are subject to the same complications and hardships that afflict marriages between heterosexual couples," Robinson wrote. "All of us sincerely intend, when we take our wedding vows, to live up to the ideal of 'til death do us part. But not all of us are able to see this through until death indeed parts us."

It's not all paradise is it? I wonder if spousal support will be involved.

Maybe the problem was too many dingle berries.

I'm guessing that they didn't stay together for the kids.

Of course it's not all paradise as evident by the almost 50% divorce rate among heterosexuals. I don't think anyone has ever made the claim that homosexuals, if given state recognized marriage, wouldn't ever get divorced.

I saw this guy give an interview once that made me think that pro gay theology vs traditional Christian sexual theology aside, this man simply not qualified for the job of Bishop. During the over all friendly interview, he ignored reality about the episcolpelians church's demographic collapse with his almost monosylable anwers and looked hung over.

So he was not a child abuser then? I see why you saw him as unqualified...

Now that you mention it, child abuse (pedophilia) was pretty rare in the Catholic church.

Cruising predatory homosexuals committing acts of paedophilia against pubiscent boys, however, reached near epidemic proportions.

Is paedophilia more prevalent in homosexuals? What is your take on the matter?

LOL

Just more proof that gays and SSM are *no different* than straight people and their marriages.

HAHAHAHA

Cruising predatory homosexuals committing acts of paedophilia against pubiscent boys, however, reached near epidemic proportions.

Eh wtf is the difference lol!

No, only in religious nutjobs..

This is 'breaking news'?

Some gay couple (one of whom is a bishop) gets divorced...so what?

Actually, I did not even know there was a gay bishop...so that is progress.

We tried to tell you.

So does that mean heterosexuals shouldn't ever get married becuase the divorce rate is almost 50%? Not getting your line of reasoning here. Where did anyone say that gays wouldn't get divorced?

Tell us something we don't know then

But what you actually tried to tell us was we had no *right* to marry

Looks like just another failed attempt at bragging about being anti-gay and mocking SSM

This. I can't figure out why these gay divorce stories keep popping up. Uh, yeah, I'm sure lots of gay couples will eventually divorce. Just like straight couples do. Pot, meet kettle.
