Pro-Russian rebels shot down two Ukrainian helicopters on Friday, killing two crew, as troops tightened their siege of separatist-held Slovyansk and Moscow accused Kyiv of launching a "criminal" assault that wrecked hopes of peace.

In the southern port of Odessa, one man was shot dead in clashes between supporters of Ukrainian unity and pro-Russian activists, police said. Protesters threw petrol bombs, paving stones and explosive devices during the disturbances.

The U.N. Security Council plans to meet in emergency session Friday on Ukraine after Russia called for a public meeting on the growing crisis there, the Associated Press reported. The meeting will be the council's 13th meeting on the crisis.

This is getting worse a lot faster than it's getting better.

Considering the amount of defections from the Ukrainian military and police force then it is not surprising that they can do this.

More like Russian special forces disguised as rebels.

Maybe, but considering the total lack of control by Kiev of the area, and the defections in both military and police, then there is a larger chance that it is actually not Russian special forces. There was a clear military strategic reason for what happened in Crimea, but not so much for Eastern Ukraine. In fact I suspect Putin would rather not have more poor people demanding stuff coming into his country.. just saying.
