It's part of the contract he signs to be a member of the NBA and have his team play and make him those billions of dollars. While not everything in a contract is necessarily enforceable simply because you sign it willingly, I'm not aware of any particular law that would be broken by enforcing the contract against him.
We're talking about something a little different here - in this case, in effect, it is the employee disciplining/firing the boss. And taking it further, it is equal partners in a corporation, each with equal voting shares/stock, voting to require one partner to divest himself of his shares in the corporation potentially at great loss and personal tax implications. I don't think this is the legal slam dunk, pun intended, that many think it is.
