Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Fined $2.5M and Banned for Life by NBA[W:545]

Re: Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Fined $2.5M and Banned for Life by NBA

A business can ban anybody it likes... it happens in bars and restaurants most often. Public pools. Libraries. Etc. It can happen in the NBA.

No, it can't

Re: Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Fined $2.5M and Banned for Life by NBA

No, it can't

Yes, it can. It can get a Ban and Bar Notice or a No Trespass Notice (depends on terminology of area) that enables police to legally remove anybody on that Notice from the business.

Re: Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Fined $2.5M and Banned for Life by NBA

Nope

Flo Rida was banned for his behavior at one of the games; not for something he said while not at a game.

Did Sterling say or do something at a Clippers game?

Hate to play the devil's advocate but............

Wait a second...the NBA can ban a person forever? Hmm......

I really have mixed emotions on this issue...What Sterling said was horrible and a truly racist statement but on the other hand what happened to the first amendment and freedom of speech especially in the privacy of his home that you on the left are always citing?

The PC crowd doesnt believe in free speech.

The PC crowd doesnt believe in free speech.

They believe in the same free speech the so-called "non-PC" crowd believes in: free to speak it, but not without serious repercussions. The only thing separating most people is what speech they think needs to be pressured out, boycotted, and railed against in the media.

Trust me, all of you do it. You just think you're above it, when you're not.

No, they can't

They have to show cause in order to ban someone.

The PC crowd doesnt believe in free speech.
They only believe in the freedom of speech that suits their agenda. They try to snuff out the free speech of those who disagree with them.

I agree with you, it is a horrible and racist statement. But the first only applies to the government not restricting speech, not everyone else.

They can ban a person. You said they could not. You have just admitted that they can... "they have to show cause". I win. You lose. Bye.

Plenty of lefties on this thread including myself have made it clear that Sterling's privacy was invaded and that there are black players like Barkley who said racist things as well...It's just that we don't feel real sorry for the miserable **** Sterling.

Of course that would require actually you reading the thread to know what was said, as opposed to your usual open mouth spew nonsense.

That's the name of the game. Everyone plays it, and everyone has their eyes on the prize.

I never said they can't ban a person. I said that can't ban anyone they want to ban. They can ban a person - a person who gives them cause to do so.

Does that apple taste like an orange to you?

It was the radio audience that started boycotting stations that played their music and stopped buying their material. Now if the same thing happens with Clippers fans and they stop buying tickets and merchandise, then it can be comparable. Until then... someone is talking from planet Uranus.

You are right. But then again... so am I. We both WIN!

There's somerhing wrong with that idea, too. Free speech is a civil right.

I've never done it, my friend.

Yes, but you are misapplying it.

I support the right for the Dixie Chicks to say what they said. Now does that mean their consumers have no choice? What happened to the Dixie Chicks was a decision by music lovers. Not some high and mighty music executive. At this point, it is some high and mighty executive making the decision. What is the sales changes from Clippers fans?

Do you really think these situations are comparable at this point?

Re: Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Fined $2.5M and Banned for Life by NBA

The Dixie Chicks also intentionally did this in a public forum, rather than a released taping. Sterling rightfully assumed he was having a private conversation.
