Capitol Police Probing Threatening Statements Against Harry Reid - NBC News

The investigation comes nearly two weeks after Reid, D-Nev., called controversial Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and his supporters "domestic terrorists."

Bundy, who led an armed confrontation with federal rangers over a land dispute and was later praised as a patriot by some conservative commentators, drew condemnation last week for comments widely criticized as racist. In the wake of Bundy's remarks, Reid excoriated the rancher.

So now, while Harry the Rep. in Nevada tried to have the government enforce laws, people are threatening him.

That must be the last resort for anti government folks.

So, the Bundy militia is now stopping ordinary citizens at checkpoints they have set up themselves.

Sounds like a Gestapo tactic to me.

Rep. Steven Horsford — a freshman Nevada Democrat whose district spans the region outside of Las Vegas where Bundy is battling the BLM — expressed serious concerns Sunday that out-of-state “armed militia groups” were exerting undue influence and scaring residents in Bunkerville, Nev., and the surrounding areas, about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas.
In a Sunday letter to Clark County Sheriff Douglas Gillespie, Horsford alleged that armed groups have created checkpoints requiring individuals “to prove they live in the area before being allowed to pass” and have established “a persistent presence” around highways, local schools and churches.
“We must respect individual constitutional liberties, but the residents of and visitors to Clark County should not be expected to live under the persistent watch of an armed militia,” Horsford said in the letter.

While private citizens should not be setting up roadblocks/checkpoints, I have to ask since you said their actions are "like a Gestapo tactic," do you think law enforcement in various states setting up roadblocks/checkpoints for DUI, drugs or DNA is "like a Gestapo tactic?"

It's not unlawful for a police department to set up checkpoints or roadblocks for DUI/DWI. I won't split hairs with you or anyone else in this thread as to what is lawful and what is not. Armed citizens have no lawful right or purpose for stopping people or motorists.

Godwin violation.

So if politicians/lawyers create a new law then it automatically becomes lawful? So torture under President Bush, selling weapons to Iran in exchange for hostages under President Reagan, spying on a rival political party under President Nixon and political assassinations of foreign leaders under President Truman to President Nixon was lawful because White House lawyers and the President himself said it was okay?

No it isn't lawful, just as it is slander and defimantion of character to call americans domestic terrorists with little or not proof.
Harry Reid is getting the backlash that he deserves for his stupid inane comments.

Technically those people should sue him, but for some reason he gets immunity to say stupid crap like that from a lawsuit but he can be tried in the public court of opinion of which
there is no immunity.

hopefully the people of nevada will vote this loser out of office.

What does this have to do with death threats to a congressional representative?

Say something about the topic, death threats to Harry Reid.

Armed militia confronting federal officers are domestic terrorists, Harry's definition fits that at the FBI website.

I know what I would do if someone outside the law tried to stop my motor vehicle.

It is also wrong to be threatening representatives and lawmakers of congress, or even ordinary citizens, people are given prison time for such actions when proven in a court of law.

Deflection #2.

actually the constitution calls for teh armed militia to guard the freedom of the state. so no they are not domestic terrorists

I know what I would do if someone outside the law tried to stop my motor vehicle.
i never said that was legal to do.

Good then harry Reid needs to go do jail as well then.

Well, the militia in Bundy's situation doesn't believe the federal government exists, in fact, most hate the US Government, so, they're much like people who wish to form their own type of government and enforce what they believe should be whatever they think they should as the situation permits.

Stopping motorists and people unlawfully is a tactic not used by any agency except those lawfully authorized to do so. These militia groups are lining themselves up for arrest and conviction for potential civil rights violations.

Now, what have you to say about death threats to Reid or other congressional representatives?

I think the only comment necessary comes from your Politico article:

"It’s not unusual for a politician in such a position of power to be the subject of threats; federal officials routinely investigate threats made against leaders of all stripes."

And done. Non story.

I'm against both Harry Reid and death threats to government officials.

"Harry the Rep. in Nevada tried to have the government enforce laws". Seems like a lot of Congresspeople are trying to get the government to enforce laws. I guess I have a traditional view of the term "faithfully execute".

Unless of course the Bundy militia is behind the threats, and of course if they ever decide to bomb a BLM or Forest Service office, then, it would be relevant to you, maybe?

A lot of ifs. But no, threats coming form a few of the people that Harry Reid labeled as enemies of the state is rather predictable. Does it make Bundy supporters terrorists? No.

If that were true then Wisconsin State Employee Union would be a terrorist group.

So why exactly was Harry Reid involved in this at all?

Ask that question... it has been suggested he has financial interests in this area...

That is IF. IF is not evidence of anything. it is an assumption.

I have yet to see any real news report on this just vague references and nothing substantial. again if they are doing this it is against the law and illegal.
I have never said it was legal for them to do it.

However when a senator makes a statement like Reid did and calling people terrorists then he should be held accountable for his statements. Threating americans with a terrorist label is a threat to them.

There is nothing against the law about having armed people on YOUR property. if you think that there is please show me where it is illegal.

In fact it is in the constitution for the people to do that very thing. It is the main reason for the 2nd amendment. when the government gets out of control like the government has the people have the right to defend themselves and their property.

if they wanted to seize cows off his property fine, but the government went further in destroying water lines, fences and killing his cattle. they caused finanical and physical damage to his private property without warrant.

that is far more dangerous than some cows eating grass and if you can't see that then you are blind.

Sounds like a bunch of self styled Barney Fife wannabees.

If those clowns tried to stop me with a roadblock, it would be filmed and I'd get their names, and off it would go to actual police. Who the hell do these hillbillies think they are?

Ask that question... it has been suggested he has financial interests in this area...

There was a thing going around that Reid and his son were advocates of a chinese solar company building a solar plant in the area.
that the reason for the BLM land grab was to force bundy off his farm so that they could move in.

This was just a rumor and according to snopes false.
The company pulled it's bid to build the plant and it wasn't even near bundy's farm.

This is just Harry Reid being Harry Reid and showing what a hat that he is. this is nothing new from him though.
how the people of NV continue to elect him is beyond me. I would be embarrassed.

In florida we have our own embarrasment in the house called corine brown, washerman schultz and alan grayson.
all they can do is slander and say nasty things about people who don't conform to their ideas.
