Woman in North Carolina Killed While Driving and Texting About being 'Happy'

Glad she did not kill anyone else with her reckless behavior. It's sad for the family, but I can't muster up much sympathy for her. If you drive like an idiot, be prepared to die like one.

This need to always be technologically on is a frightening thing. Here's a woman who died to update her status, because she just could not wait to let everyone know how "happy" she was. It's some kind of sickness.

Delayed gratification is ancient history now.

I honestly think that phones should have a sensor that recognizes that it is moving at a high rate of speed and locks itself so it can't be used until it's stopped.

Really, so if I am traveling on a bus I can't use my phone. Why would that be?

When somebody calls me in my car I hand the phone to my girlfriend who answers the call.

Why would I want my phone locked up?

definition of stupidity: operating a vehicle and NOT watching where you are going. When I see this which is now every single day I wonder what is so important about one phone call or text that one risks paralysis, dismemberment, blindness, burns and death leaving family members to weep and live without that person.
It is a disgrace that someone is so illiterate about their own life and the lives of others

It is mighty sad that some people don't give a few moments thought to the possible results of their careless actions. The lady didn't die in an 'accident'. she caused that collision by her failure to keep her total attention focused on driving her car on a busy highway.

The takeaway from this story: Drive a Truck, protect yourself against careless people.

What if the truck was one of those cars that get 84MPG. Would there have been 2 deaths?

Would you rather be inconvenienced or dead?

I've got about 3000 miles on the road coming up in a week. Stories like this are why I almost paid double to get my car shipped vs drive it.

It will be interesting to see the future ramifications of an entire generation being raised in an environment of instant gratification. Somehow, I think we will just invent new ways to accommodate it rather than exercise some self control.

I already see it with my son. He has to be entertained every minute and if not he comes to me and says he is bored. I say how does it feel to be bored and send him away.

When I was his age I had my own room and I busied my self with whatever I wanted. he can't do that unless it is a video game control in his hand.

A North Carolina woman died behind the wheel just moments after posting a Facebook message and hitting a truck head-on.

I could say a lot of things but I'll just say that at least the lady died happy and no one else died in this collision.

I have to say I hope I die happy or at least I die oblivious to what's happening around me, although I would prefer that the authorities not have to pry my plastered remains off the front end of a semi.

You're right about that. I ride a motorcycle and sit just a little above the average auto window and I see people texting almost every intersection I stop at. It makes me ride differently than I used to.

Yep. I see it all the time. I got passed the other day by a BMW pinballing the lanes as the guy texted. I was doing 70 and he passed me like I was barely moving.

Pinballing the lanes. I hadn't heard that expression, but I see it all the time. Sometimes, I wish I had a paddle to knock the guy back where he came from.

I don't understand the question in relation to my post.

I mean would you rather be inconvenienced by the problems you put forth or would you rather be dead because you were trying use your phone while driving.

With the technology we have today there could be a program in the phone to where if you were traveling at X amount of speed the phone would recognize which side of the car you're in and thus disallow usage while driving and allow it while in the passenger seat.

Let he who has driven 40 hours a day for at least 20 years without ever causing an accident, or nearly causing one and only missing by luck, cast the first stone.

With that said, yeah texting and driving is bad... some people just don't realize how bad until it is too late... but ANYTHING can distract you for a fatal second.

too bad we can't dig her up and beat her to death for arrogance and stupidity, every day for about 20 years. and put it on every tv channel 24-7.

let he who has never texted while driving cast the first stone. there''ll still be MILLIONS of stones, dude.

Shocked that a long line of lawyers are not at the door of her family wanting to sue all peoples associated with that song and the radio station or download playing the song. After all, this is America.

At least she was happy went she met her maker. I, for one, would love to die in my sleep.... Not like the other 5 people in my car screaming bloody murder.

There aren't 40 hours in a day...
