13 stripes (Colonies), 50 stars (states).....but it is not representative of the govt (political organization)?First, if it were a US govt flag it would have to meet very specific parameters in accordance with US law. Very few flags in public use meet that. Second, it is the flag of the people of the united states...it represents the people and the nation, not the govt; the people that comprise the govt...not the government itself as an entity in and of itself. Lastly, every organ of the US govt has it's own flag....those are govt flags as they represent that particular dept...not the American people as a whole.
But yeah, you don't get it.
