Experts stunned by boy's Hawaii flight in wheel well - SFGate

(04-21) 09:58 PDT SAN JOSE -- Aviation and security experts were at a loss Monday to explain how a 16-year-old boy from Santa Clara managed to scale a fence at Mineta San Jose International Airport before surviving a five-hour flight to Maui in the wheel well of a Hawaiian Airlines jet.

Surveillance video showed the boy hopping a fence at the San Jose airport while it was still dark Sunday morning and then walking toward a Hawaiian Airlines Boeing 767 on the tarmac, authorities said. Flight 45 took off at 7:55 a.m. - with no one realizing that the boy had snuck into the plane's wheel well.

Seemingly physically impossible, and quite scary from a security standpoint.

fascinating. That part of the plane isn't climate controlled and can be unsafe.

What did he breath? How did he keep warm etc??

From a security standpoint this does not bold well. Hope the terrorists aren't taking notes.

So many things could have killed that kid.

HACE or HAPE brought on by sustained hypoxia. Hypothermia or he could have been crushed.

Unbelievable.

Teenagers are made out of rubber and magic and I can attest to that given some of the injuries I bounced back from when I used to ride dirt bikes.

I just dont believe it. The temperatures up there aswell as the lack of oxygen would mean that you fall into unconciousness and then freeze to death. If you are lucky enought to lose conciousness.

I have read countless reports of African illegals who painfully froze to death in planes that they hid in.

He was unconscious for the majority of the flight and an hour after landing.

Also -50 degrees up there.

This guy is either really lucky, planned it somehow, or the whole thing is a hoax. Although not sure how that last might work.

Glad he didn't have a bomb strapped around his waist.

WW2 Bomber crews used to fly at Highl Altitudes without O2 but maybe just 15 thousand feet.

Its amazing he survived.

Unsafe? It's unpressurized. I'm not sure how he got out of that without brain damage.
