SALMON, Idaho (Reuters) - Hundreds of low-level and medium-sized earthquakes have struck central Idaho since last month, puzzling geologists who wonder whether the ruptures portend a much larger temblor to come or are merely the rumblings of a seismic fault previously thought to be dormant.

These quakes are not happening on the main fault line, but scientists believe that they are related to action within the Yellowstone caldera. The next few months will be interesting.

That would be trouble if the Yellow Stone Caldera blows.....We watched the special they had on the History Channel over it. Chicago and people up Northern Illinois would have about 2 hrs to make a move to get out. If they don't.....only chance is to bunker up. Only Chance. Best be solid or deep.

Guess it depends on which way the winds are blowing.

Yes, if it blows it will decimate a huge chunk of the country, affect a great many of us, and likely change the Earth's climate for years to come. Not sure what any of us can do about it in the face of such uncertainty though. It seems futile to do preparation for something that is unlikely to happen for hundreds or thousands of years, if ever.

If it blows, when it blows, it's game over for the US almost immediately. Perhaps game over for a significant portion of our species. May even be the end to our little break from the ice age.

Remember, it'll not only throw up three states worth of material into the atmosphere, but all the deterious of human life there as well. All the pesticides and other deadly chemicals folks have in their homes and businesses, as well as any nuclear waste storage in the blast zone. Not to mention what will happen with all the wet cask storage during and after the eruptions when large swatches of the country are without power, perhaps for months.

There's nothing you can do about it, why worry? It happens or it doesn't. The liberals will probably blame mankind for causing the super-eruption too.

It is a rather big volcano.

If it happens, frankly, it's probably best to be one of the casualties. Not sure I want to live in a post-eruption world.

How's -20 degrees sound for about the next 100 years?

I see Los Angeles is in one of the fallout patterns. No problem there. LA is used to heavy smog. LOL.

But, I thought mysterious earthquakes were only caused by Fraking, is there such going on in Idaho?
