Have you been to the conspiracy theory section lately?

He would be very popular among its denizens.

Look....I'm usually one that suggests not to jump to conclussions, wait for information to come out, etc...

But I think we're going a little crazy if we're having a cow over someone referring to a person screaming Heil Hitler while killing jews on a jewish holiday as a "neo-nazi". Is it an assumption? Yes. Is it a crazy leap of judgement or one that is reasonable to asusme is simply based off some kind of political agenda? Not really.

Had he gone on about crazy right wing nazi I'd perhaps think differently. But Neo-Nazi basically is short hand for modern day nazi fan....which, regardless of this guys ethnicity or religion, would SEEM to fit the bill.

THe stronger a person's identification with an ideology, the more rigid they tend to be about narrative. Events need to be filtered through the template provided by this narrative, so what you have here (and there are many,MANY thousands of examples on this site by now) is a case where the dogmatic righties want the event to fit into their narrative and the dogmatic lefties their's. They both see ideology as identity, and so the heinous act needs to be defined as arising from the opposing group. Since the dogmatic right sees Islam as evil, they are quick to jump to the conclusion that fits their perception. The dogmatic left routinely defends anything associated with Islam, however, so they will fight any notion that it could have been perpetrated by an Islamist.

Now you are obviously a smart fellow and less inclined towards viewing politics as identity than most, so you go with the clues. His yelling Heil Hitler was pretty obvious. Had he yelled "allahu akbar",instead, I'm sure this conversation would have taken the exact same path, except for the reversal in roles. THe dogmatisc lefties would be doing what they always do as their knees jerk away just as the dogmatic righties are here.
