Anti-Tech Protesters Target VC With Vulgar Flyer

it seems to me if they spent more time getting a better education, working, investing and coming up with their own idea then they could get to the same point as these people did.
instead they stand on a corner crying about it while not getting paid.

that makes sense. lets cry about not having something someone else has and not get paid. instead of going out and making our own idea's and get paid for it.

maybe if they spent more time on their education and job skills they could get a nice paying job with one of those tech companies.

The Founders acted out, for free, because they didn't enjoy the representation others had.

Wait, huh? Who's crying? Just answer the questions....What's the matter with you?

And if they went about it in the legal way then they are protected...This however, I suspect wasn't handled in that way.

Oh you suggest? Yeah? or else what? What are YOU Ikari going to do? Maybe you should take a pill or something.

You need to calm down. They peacefully assembled and protested legally. You can protest from the sidewalk. You're sitting here crying about a group exercising rights because you don't like their message, trying to make it seem like they did wrong because you don't like the message. Well you ain't the queen of England, your word is not law.

This is a consequence of freedom, people will say things you don't like. But you sound just like one of these entitled protestors, crying about his we should infringe upon assembly and protest because you don't like what is being said. I suggest you learn to accept the repercussions of freedom.

A permit to exercise a right?

Yep, that's right....You need a permit. Not for the person, or entity you are protesting, but to protect you, and others....

"Whether you're marching on city hall, holding a candlelight vigil, or rallying outside the statehouse or a private business, you should check your local permit ordinance before you put on your marching shoes and pull out the megaphone.

While regulations vary, here are some guidelines:

The government can't prohibit marches on public sidewalks or streets, or rallies in most public parks or plazas. But it can often require a permit to regulate competing uses of the area and to ensure you respect reasonable time, place and manner restrictions.

You shouldn’t need a permit for demonstrations that don't "realistically present serious traffic, safety, and competing-use concerns beyond those presented on a daily basis by ordinary use of the streets and sidewalks." If you hold a small rally in a public park or march on on the sidewalk and obey traffic laws, you generally won’t need a permit."

"PRIVATE PROPERTY

Can I protest on private property?

As a rule, the First Amendment doesn't give you the right to engage in free-speech activities on private property unless you own or lease the property, or the owner has given you permission to use the property for speech. But you may canvass door-to-door in residential areas, unless the homeowner has put up a "no solicitors" sign."

www.aclunc.org/our-work/know-your-r...speech-protests-and-demonstrations-california

If this neighborhood had signs up that said "No soliciting", or neighbors felt like they couldn't move freely in their own neighborhood, then the protesters have a problem.

While i agree this behavior is assinine, i'm betting you don't think gun owners should be required to have permits to execise THAT right.

Gun owners DO need permits to exercise their rights....What are you talking about?

Then hold a counter protest. Or instead of sitting around wading time being concerned about the activities of this group of apparently undereducated unemployed jerks, you focus on your own work and your own business.

i have better things to do like work and invest and increase my personal value. unlike these guys i don't have free time to sit around and complain that someone has more than me.
they should follow what successful people do not what unsuccessful people do.

successful people work invest and gain knowledge to increase their value.
unsuccessful people sit for hours holding signs that it isn't fair.

The Founders acted out, for free, because they didn't enjoy the representation others had.

the founders were all successful businessmen or workers.

also i find that protesting government oppression a bit more valued than protesting someone simply because they have more than you do. which you could have as well if you weren't protesting, but working and educating yourself.

Exactly, so move along, nothing to see here.

and exactly who are you to tell me what to do? yea that is what i thought.

Cry some more. Assembly and protest are amongst the most valued of rights and must be protected. Sorry you don't like the consequences of freedom, but I suggest you get over it.

Protest which damages private property is not legally supported. Just because you don't like someone does not give you the right to cause harm to them.

Gun owners DO need permits to exercise their rights....What are you talking about?

All gun owners have permits for all guns? First i've heard of that.

And of course theres the problem of the state silencing all protests against it by the simple.expedient of denying permits.

I disagree that everybody who tries really hard can have a billion too.

There can never be enough billions for everybody to be a billionaire.

And the overall reason for the protest is gentrification. Not wealth inequality.

If people with money decide they want your neighborhood for them and their "peers", they get it. This makes it more expensive for those "without". Forcing them to move farther from work, etc.

The flyer posted is stupid. Much of these kinds of protests are stupid.

But they're bitching about gentrification. Which causes real problems for real people.

fact is as more people move into an area and the more income that comes into the area prices generally go up. just look at ND. the energy boom there has driven housing prices through the roof but their unemployment rate of 2.8% counters that as people are getting paid well enough to afford it.

i never said everyone could be a billionaire, but you can't really do better for yourself standing outside someone's housing carrying a protest sign.
that isn't going to accomplish anything. creating your own idea and or job skills will make it better for yourself.

and exactly who are you to tell me what to do? yea that is what i thought.

I thought you were a man with a job and not enough time. Seems that's not true. You can do what you want, but protest and assembly are to be protected to the utmost possible. It is necessary for a free state. If you want to cry about this group, have at it. But they were well within their rights and there is nothing you can do about it.

You are no one special enough to tell the protestors what to do either.

Protest which damages private property is not legally supported. Just because you don't like someone does not give you the right to cause harm to them.

And the property damage here is? If the protestors damage private property, they are liable for it.

You need to calm down.

I need to calm down? Really? You're the one coming in here today out of the box with inflammatory rhetoric.

They peacefully assembled and protested legally.

Peacefully? I don't think it is too peaceful to be handing out the vulgar fliers they were handing out, and displaying the vulgar signs they had in front of the guy's house...Legally is another question, which is why I asked....That I asked seems to be enough for you to mis-characterize what I said.

You can protest from the sidewalk.

Yep, as I outlined in my response to What if....But there are certain restrictions on that as well.

You're sitting here crying about a group exercising rights because you don't like their message, trying to make it seem like they did wrong because you don't like the message.

No, I don't like that they went on their self absorbed rant in front of the guy's house, attacking him personally, and laying siege to the neighborhood, in the name of "I think you have too much, so I want it".....

Well you ain't the queen of England, your word is not law.

Where did I say it was? Your straw arguments are amusing.

This is a consequence of freedom, people will say things you don't like.

No, this is a consequence of children that are spoiled, and their heads filled with leftist ideas of wealth somehow being bad.

But you sound just like one of these entitled protestors, crying about his we should infringe upon assembly and protest because you don't like what is being said.

Are there better ways of relating their message without sounding like jealous, self absorbed, entitled pukes? Hell yes. Do I care if some leftist anarchist wants to cry that they don't have what someone else has? No.

I suggest you learn to accept the repercussions of freedom.

I neither care, nor consider what YOUR suggestions are...So save it.

Use Google to search for people harassing gays, or minorities, or the poor. Or is it the left who is harassing gay people?

I would like you to give me ONE example of a conservative group harassing gays at their home, or the poor at their home in this fashion.....I don't think you can...So you are dismissed.

All gun owners have permits for all guns? First i've heard of that.

If you want to carry your gun then yes. But Gun ownership is a right, your desire to take my wealth is not.

And of course theres the problem of the state silencing all protests against it by the simple.expedient of denying permits.

If you had actually read the link I provided from the Cali ACLU you would have seen that permits are rarely turned down, but that they are there not only to provide for services needed for these types of protests, but to make sure that others rights were not infringed like what happened here in this illegal protest.

And the property damage here is? If the protestors damage private property, they are liable for it.

Yep, how you going to go after them for property damage if they don't have a permit so you don't know who they are?

The NSA, all this mass monitoring can come in handy.

I do find it funny that you demand that people ask permission from government to exercise rights. So much for that small, controlled idealism eh?

Vulgar signs are not peaceful? Did you make that claim? Because it's a stupid claim. Pro-Life demonstrators use vulgar signs and pictures all the time. It's still peaceful and you still cannot infringe for that reason.

This is just you crying because you don't like the message, nothing more. It's fine, you can be upset that people say things you don't like. You just cannot legitimately do anything about it.

strawman as typical. i never said anything about it not being protected.

really what are the protestor's getting paid. how much money are they making holding signs? this is simple 0.
so they are complaining while making nothing.

instead of being productive and coming up with an idea and starting a business that would allow them to make more.
one benefitial the other not so much.

As long as it is done to others eh Ikari? pfft....

I do find it funny that you demand that people ask permission from government to exercise rights. So much for that small, controlled idealism eh?

Your rights to protest end at my right to be secure in my property, and freedom of movement....He should have called police and had them moved along.

Man! you are really on a mis-characterization, mis-representing, lying tangent today....Why don't you have an honest conversation without the baiting, or find someone else to grace with your BS.

I was being a bit facetious with the NSA comment, sorry I thought with my post history that would have been obvious.

Regardless, the man may secure his property and if they were protesting on his private property then he certainly has legal recourse. But it doesn't sound like they were protesting on his property. If they are on public property, the assembly and protest win out.

I'd agree that it's a rather pointless protest. But you get those in a free society where assembly and protest are protected. A consequence of freedom, we have to accept that silliness will ensue and so long as one acts within their rights, that's that. We can't really do anything against it.
