The Russian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday expressed concern over violation of media freedoms and discrimination against journalists covering the ongoing political crisis in Ukraine.

The ministry listed a number of instances in which it said Russian reporters had been blocked from entering Ukraine, deported from the country or faced pressure and even death threats.

According to the ministry, some Russian media websites have been targeted by hackers supporting the recent revolution in Ukraine, while several Russian television channels have been blocked by Ukrainian cable TV providers.

It seems the OSCE is echoing Russia's concerns. The Kiev government is going to create more problems for itself than necessary in the east and south if it keeps this up.

This is becoming more and more concerning. If the new Ukrainian government is actually doing this this needs to be analyzed more. Media freedom is a cornerstone for any democracy. If they want to actually become more western friendly and join the EU then they need to change this and much of what is going on in Ukraine. This especially worries me with more and more extreme right wing parties gaining influence in the government.

I think at this point, perhaps take it all with a tablespoon of salt. Before/during the invasion, Russia was saying they invaded because Russian speaking eastern Ukranians and Crimeans were being discriminated against and harassed. There's been no confirmation of any of that. This could just be more propaganda to get folks to see Ukraine in a bad light. I'll wait and compare this to what other news sources report in the next 24 hours or so.

I agree it could be propaganda by the easterners, but then again it would suprise me if it was true with reports of Ukranians saying they are going to hang "people by their balls if they voted in a pro russian way", or something along those lines.

You socialist freaks always know what other people "need to" do, dont you?

What the hell are you talking about?
Are you saying silencing reporters is ok?

Already posted this but here it is anyways, watch the video report as well.

BBC News - Ukraine crisis: Kiev tightens grip on Donetsk in east

Cheers,

Please watch this video and tell me which side is attacking journalists:

Why would I want to watch that bs journalist reporting last weeks news.
If you are really interested in actual assault on journalists by pro-Russian paramilitary units here is a better example:

Btw. What was your point in posting that Vice vid?

I never said either side was attacking journalists like it was some one sided thing. Both sides are doing it. What i think the Russians are doing is despicable and needs to end, its clearly aggression and imperialist ambitions. But by saying that i also see that extremist right wing ambitions might take some sort of power in Ukraine. Does this mean i think russia needs to come in? No. I want Ukraine to deal with Ukraine period. I also agree that Ukraine has the right to defend itself from Russian aggression.

My personal stance if i was in the region would be one of the "commander" they spoke to. He spoke of a non nationalist stance of being Russian blood does not make a difference to him.

Im saying Russia crying about it is supreme irony. Pay attention to whats happening instead of making grand statements about what other people need to do.

I never said what others need to do. Im making a universal statment. Russia is obviously disallowing people from reporting certain things. I never said the Ukrainian new gov is making the claims as well, but some representatives of the gov are not allowing that; that being free press.

I've seen that vid as well.

Vice is, in this instance, doing a great job showing what's really happening where they are. They aren't everywhere, and they are getting access to areas no one else is reporting on. Go to their YouTube page and watch the other five videos they've posted. I've been watching them since the first video was posted. Even CNN is using them now.

How about the fact that these russians pulled out only for foreign observers and then returned?

Are you talking about the other VICE vid that shows the bus full of international military observers being turned away by the Russians?

Couldn't care less about who might use Vice's videos. I haven't seen anything new in any of the videos I watched from them so far, only re-reporting of old news.
So...what about that point that you were trying to make with that video, care to share it?

From what I can tell from the multitude of reports I've seen, the eastern Ukraine journalist abductions and beatings are being done mostly by Russian cossaks and in rare occasions by pissed off crowds that may or may not be Ukrainian.

I agree about the commander. He is doing his job and that's what is happening in most of Ukraine from what I can tell. But Russia is playing to the ethnic tension and creating ethnic tension where none existed. The same as they did when they supported, financed and armed Milosevic in Serbia when they attacked the Bosnians, Croats and ethnic Moldovans (I was there).

This was a great report.
Thanks for the share.
I recommend it to anyone.

Thank you. This is the sixth report in a series. Go to their YouTube page for the other five. He posts them the day after or the evening they are filmed. It is very up to date.

That the Russian report in the OP is ironic at least, and bulls**t propaganda at worst.

I thought that was clear by the question I asked in the same post as the video. Did you see the question?

You quoted my post where I posted a report from the BBC, I assume you didn't see/read it - or it is probably also some-kind of a propaganda.

Moreover, in one of your previous posts you mentioned that no ethnic tensions existed until the Russian intervention - you really need to stop watching YouTube videos and read some of Ukraine's history, old and modern.

My opinion is this:
Whats going on is very confusing. Its almost clear that the vast majority of whats going on in Kiev and western Ukraine is clearly Western friendly and that they want to be part of the EU and want to move on from the BS. What is not so clear is the eastern Ukranian area, espeially focusing on Crimeia. There have been reports that the Russian gov overan the vote in the Crimeian parliament to force them bascially move the vote to go to the people in a resolution for them to direclty vote on. This is also all speculation.
