Crimea parliament declares independence from Ukraine ahead of referendum

That was good of them to go ahead and do that for the people...

I chuckled about the reference to Kosovo. A little flashback for hegemony. I worry the USA and the Oligarchs will pump a large number of Academi (Blackwater) mercenaries into the SouthEast Ukraine to create better demand for MIC armaments. If you have shelf space and inventory, the next step is to create demand. Business is good. I can't see real independent voting working in SE Ukraine, but it should work OK in Crimea. I notice the vote was not 78-0, but 78 out of a hundred. Sounds realistic. Send some of those people to Kiev to show them how to get democracy going. Wait a minute, that's not what they want in Kiev. It's hard to find a good dictator when you need one, eh?

As a German chancellor once said, Putin is a thoroughbred democrat. That man knows how to play legitimacy against the odds of reality.
Schröder's parliament leader also said Bush was like the dictator, Julius Ceasar and his minister of justice said Bush's policies were more like Adolf Hitlers. They should know, right?

According to the poll, 97 percent of the population of Sevastopol and Crimea negatively view the situation in Ukraine regarding the Kiev coup-imposed government, while 84 percent say that Ukraine is experiencing a crisis.

A total of 83 percent of the population of Crimea disapprove of the coup-appointed government in Kiev, the poll found.

So the people of Crimea would prefer to be part of the Russian Federation rather than the new Nationalist (neo-nazi) totalitarian government propped up by the CIA. If given that choice I think I would chose the same.

JC said that? You should know, right?

Yah, he said Bush was like dictator, Julius Ceasar. I looked it up, so yah, I should know.

Well! If you even looked it up!

I chuckled too.

I think they will understand that unilateral independence is not internationally illegal but it is tough and takes a good amount of sharing information, reasoning, and convincing with the proposed position as to why it had to be done.

We had oppression since Ottoman Empire retreated and it occurred on our own ancient lands. We were autonomous ever since WW2 and were under Yugoslavia not Serbia. Serbia than made hegemony wars not only on us but everyone else in Yugoslavia such as: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, and then us in Dardania. We endured rape, genocide, torture, and kidnapping civilians whom are still missing today.

Relationships still not good with Serbia whom could not care less of these happenings. I have the impression that given the opportunity Serbs would do all that all over again and without a second thought.

Russians on the other hand populated a foreign country of Ukraine and want to keep it by force. Yet they refer to us and now perhaps want to force similarities between the two countries. So yes, it is a matter to be chuckled.

Now I do not mean to sound too controlling, but please do not Black Friday rush in recognizing Crimea's independence. Take it easy people! One at a time! Wooaah! ;)

Didn't take for someone to bring Bush into this.

Secession is illegal.

Of course, it all comes back to Kosovo. Clinton nearly got us into World War III with Russia over that spot of land in the 90's and it seems the issue is pushing us in that direction anyway. Makes sense that Serbia would end up being the ultimate cause of yet another world war.

From the OP article:

'Seventy-seven percent of people in Crimea and Sevastopol will vote to join Russia in the March 16 referendum, according to the poll conducted by Crimea Republican Institute of Political and Sociological Research.

Eighty-five percent of people in Sevastopol, a city with a special status located on the Crimean peninsula, believe that it should join Russia.

According to the poll, 97 percent of the population of Sevastopol and Crimea negatively view the situation in Ukraine regarding the Kiev coup-imposed government, while 84 percent say that Ukraine is experiencing a crisis.

A total of 83 percent of the population of Crimea disapprove of the coup-appointed government in Kiev, the poll found.'

I am not saying the poll is legit, but it is food for thought.

There was no Nazi government propped up in Ukraine (and certainly not a totalitarian one). The majority of the protestors are pro-EU democrats trying to escape Russia's sphere of influence. Besides, it's not exactly a new strategy on Putin's part to utilize trumped-up ethnic rivalries in order to undermine and bully former Soviet states.

You're an expert on Ukrainian law?

They just arrested an opposition presidential candidate for "separatism" and the guy was only calling for greater autonomy for regions within Ukraine. Safe to say that outright secession is frowned upon in the country. If you look at international law . . . well . . that point has always been a tad vague.

Yeap, good point. That is my barbaric neighbor alright. Started WW1, nearly got us in WW3. Sometimes I think they have been placed there in Europe from Russia exactly for that specific reason, to: imbalance Europe, risk peace, fight barbarically, and gain more lands. Then do more trouble from there, get more negative attention, risk peace and start all over again.

But what you do not know is that they have been doing this ever since their arrival in 7th century middle ages. This is how they exist and how they have made it in between Roman and Byzantine empire's to begin with. Causing chaos, disturbance, barbarism, wars, is what they do and have always used it to their advantage.

The only difference today is that Europe, USA, and other allies are more aware of this and have the strength to do something against this.
