US prepares $1B aid package for troubled Ukraine.....

That would be why Gallops global poll (Dec. 2013) found the US to be the greatest threat to world peace.

Especially since Dubya, it doesn't appear we are promoting the cause of world peace much. What has been done in Ukraine is a very big step backwards.

Going to another point, if Obama was indeed spearheading that effort to bring down the government in Kiev, that's a big problem and he should be considered dangerous. However, I find it hard to believe that. I am inclined to believe that he gave Victoria Nuland a bit too much leeway. Then the moderates lost control of things on the street and the mob rejected the deal that was reached with Yanukovych and he was forced to leave. I'm probably brainwashing myself to believe that, because I just can't believe we have people in power here in the US that would be so stupid as to do such a thing. But if it's true that they did it on purpose, especially if Obama was directing and spearheading it, that is a big problem. It would be a substantial problem if we have someone as highly placed as Victoria Nuland who was actually directing the overthrow of Yanukovych in such a fashion. And there is evidence to support that notion. However, you might be able to get away with having someone that stupid in a position like that. But if it is the President of the United States himself, then that's very, very dangerous. He is supposed to know better, and if he doesn't that is a very, very big problem indeed.

The government has spent 5-6 years and 5 billion dollars to bring Ukraine into the Western orbit. The plot hasn't escaped Obama. George Bush, from day one in office was determined to attack Iraq, fixed the intelligence around that policy and proceeded forward. Yes, we have had/have leadership that does these things.

Why is he supposed to know better? He is a Community Organizer from Chicago with no previous experience in anything of substance. His resume is empty. The electorate arranged the flowers in this empty vessel allowing him to be whatever they hoped him to be. He just had to make promises and shout slogans. That's all there was to him, and it was unrealistic to have expected more.

Here's a little more information about that alleged "aid" package.

The Looting Of Ukraine Has Begun

"By Paul Craig Roberts
March 07, 2014 "Information Clearing House - According to a report in Kommersant-Ukraine, the finance ministry of Washington’s stooges in Kiev who are pretending to be a government has prepared an economic austerity plan that will cut Ukrainian pensions from $160 to $80 so that Western bankers who lent money to Ukraine can be repaid at the expense of Ukraine’s poor. Ú.Óêðàèíà-Ãàçåòà - Øîê è ðàñ÷åò It is Greece all over again.

Before anything approaching stability and legitimacy has been obtained for the puppet government put in power by the Washington orchestrated coup against the legitimate, elected Ukraine government, the Western looters are already at work. Naive protesters who believed the propaganda that EU membership offered a better life are due to lose half of their pension by April. But this is only the beginning.

The corrupt Western media describes loans as “aid.” However, the 11 billion euros that the EU is offering Kiev is not aid. It is a loan. Moreover, it comes with many strings, including Kiev’s acceptance of an IMF austerity plan.

Remember now, gullible Ukrainians participated in the protests that were used to overthrow their elected government, because they believed the lies told to them by Washington-financed NGOs that once they joined the EU they would have streets paved with gold. Instead they are getting cuts in their pensions and an IMF austerity plan.

The austerity plan will cut social services, funds for education, layoff government workers, devalue the currency, thus raising the prices of imports which include Russian gas, thus electricity, and open Ukrainian assets to takeover by Western corporations.

Ukraine’s agriculture lands will pass into the hands of American agribusiness.

One part of the Washington/EU plan for Ukraine, or that part of Ukraine that doesn’t defect to Russia, has succeeded. What remains of the country will be thoroughly looted by the West.

The other part hasn’t worked as well. Washington’s Ukrainian stooges lost control of the protests to organized and armed ultra-nationalists. These groups, whose roots go back to those who fought for Hitler during World War 2, engaged in words and deeds that sent southern and eastern Ukraine clamoring to be returned to Russia where they resided prior to the 1950s when the Soviet communist party stuck them into Ukraine."

An interesting take on the goings on... here's my thought though. Greece erupted into mass protest and violence and it would seem that would happen here as well. The people are not going to like being stabbed in the back by the west, and will resist the austerity plan (one would assume). Does this give Putin the excuse to move in and take all the Ukraine back under the existing logic which is "to protect Russian people" from violence. Doesn't resistance by Ukraine to this move provide Putin opportunity and an excuse to take Ukraine back under the wing of mother Russia lock stock and barrel while simultaneously giving those NGO's and coup organizers in Washington yet another black eye?

It allows the "Mighty Wurlitzer" and the Military/Industrial/Corporate complex to gin up a new war/threat and increase monies to those ends. Yes, it could certainly lead to war. The USA has been invading and killing profusely for a long time. It seems like the citizens would wake up, but they just stay glued to the Media presstitutes and continue along in blissful ignorance. Just friggin' unbelievable.

Yep, disgusting, I saw this in your other post. Paul Craig Roberts would know too.

Finian Cunningham (SCF) : Legally, Washington and its European allies haven’t a leg to stand on. Both can be rightly accused of violating international law from their gross interference in Ukrainian sovereign affairs – from the instigation of violent street protests that led to the sacking of an elected president and government, to the subsequent climate of lawlessness and fear sweeping across Ukraine and felt in particular by the majority Russian ethnic population in the east and south of the country.

That's a Danish wacko's conspiracy blog!!

I hope you are wrong here. Perhaps my bias is not letting me see the truth. Honestly, deep down inside, I would really like for Obama to succeed. But sometimes, he does do things that make me wonder. Then other times he appears to have it together. I wish I really knew what actually happened here. I honestly don't understand how someone with a sufficient education could make a mistake so big. How could anyone that understands things really think that Russia could just sit back and let Ukraine slid like this? Events must have gotten out of control. That has to be the explanation.

Good to read an honest response free of the built in bias which effects a lot of us.

I doubt very much that Obama was spearheading anything in Kiev, otherwise he would have done it in other countries when he had the opportunity. He has not demonstrated anything in that direction anywhere else and it is unlikely that he would in the Ukraine.

My feeling is that he knew about the Crimea beforehand and there may be a quid pro quo. That might be Putin laying off the rest of the Ukraine and allowing the country into the EU. It seems that might not be such a bad exchange if.....

We are broke and in deebt and Obama gives Ukraine one billion dollars.........What is wrong with this picture???

Heya Navy. :2wave: That it wasn't included in his budget! Not surprising.....huh?

That's interesting. I was thinking that a possible solution would be for both sides to agree absolutely no NATO membership for Ukraine, but possible EU membership, if that's what the people there want. Crimea would be given autonomy in the short term, long term be absorbed into the Russian Federation.

Ukraine is a basket case. The people there better beware of the EU. They will end up like Greece, mothers forced to abandon their children, etc.

Know how much we give Israel every year, and so many other countries?

It appears that is a motive. Yatsenyuk placed in power will surely direct the country toward austerity and drive a stake in the heart of the people while at the same time allow banks to benefit.

I agree. They are going to suck Ukraine dry. These people are blood suckers.
